QB Situation
OK so it seems that we can almost start preparing for Jimmy H to be our next head coach. Baring something out of the blue happening with Rosen/Other highly rated QB, we head into next season we a 2 deep of Morris and Bellomy/Speight depending on if Bellomy sticks around next year and doesn't get passed up.
I know a lot of people are VERY un-impressed with what we saw out of Morris and based on his hype coming out of HS rightfully so, but if we do end up with that as our depth chart for the QB position what are peoples thoughts on who gives us the best chance to win? My vote would be for Morris and I am sure that is most likely not the most popular vote at the end of day.
Reasoning is as I would sit and watch each painful game every Saturday I would sit there and think how is it possible that Hoke and company would go out and recruit to a top 10-25 class each season and then the talent on the field would like like a MAC team at best. Guys like Kalis who a lot of recruiting experts said was the most college ready guard they have ever seen looking so bad or our 4/5 star RB and QB's looking like they are lost. I feel like this roster has a ton of talent on it, but for what ever reasons our coach was just awful at developing that talent and getting them ready for college. With the proper coaching I feel like we are very close to being able to feild a competitive team. Am I way off here or what??

So from Harbaugh, to coordinators, and now to quarterback controversy. This off season may at least be interesting.

I think part of the problem is that our recievers were rarely open last year and that when they were (Funchess) they often didn't catch the ball. This needs to improve regardless of the QB.

I think Wilton Speight is going to be good..He moves good in the pocket and i feel like he is not scared of contact so he stands strong in the pocket..being 6'6 235 also makes him harder to bring down...I am in no way calling him Andrew Luck but i think he has some similar qualities and his accuracy and maturity will show...Whatever happens though i trust our former QB Jim Harbaugh to work them until one of them starts to shine.

I would be very surprised if he were asked to return for his fifth year. There is enough depth to move in a new direction without him. Rosen has said he is 99% with UCLA, but will listen to JH if he calls. Morris will be a better QB than most people think. However, it will be a great story to follow through spring and fall.

Malzone is enrolling early I believe. Doubt he's going anywhere after he's stuck with Michigan this long.

If Josh Rosen enrolled early to UCLA, does that mean he has already signed his national letter of intent??

The throw Shane made against MSU coming in cold still gives me hope.
For all we know Malzone may not even be the highest rated QB coming in this year. If there is one position Harbaugh can go out and hand pick last minute and get to flip from another school it's a QB.

He just needs to gain the confidence and maturity that good coaching and a solid game plan can help him with. He always looked like a high school kid out there, all flustered and rushed. I'm hoping having Harbaugh over him day in and day out will help with that.

If our run game can be relied upon to be the bulk of the offense, I think Shane could be a good Stanford QB where they many run power and do some play action and 1-2 route patterns. We aren't going to be running the air raid with our current crop of QBs unless someone has a breakthrough in the offseason

Does Shane have PTSD like Gardner? Has Speight regressed by sitting and has he developed at all with a redshirt?
I'm not going to speculate before spring/summer/fall training and practices. I'm still terrified the Raiders could make a change of plans for Harbaugh. This is too much like recruiting season and I worry it's going to be Treadwell or Hand again.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the biggest reason for the pitchfork in my right hand last year was that the team struggled so mightily despite plenty of talent on the roster. That's why Hoke isn't the coach anymore, right?
We certainly have a ? at QB, but I foresee monumental improvement next year if Jim arrives, thanks in large part to him but also due to a more experienced roster and a more favorable schedule.

We'll go as the QB goes.
We do have all of the rest of the pieces in place to make a good run . . . O-Line, RBs, Defense. The WR's are a little shaky but serviceable.
It will come down to how well a QB develops. We can keep some of the pressure off of him with the other pieces, but not all of it. Morris/Speight/(Malzone) need to get significantly better for us to avoid more than 4 losses.

As noted by others though the presence of an actual running game does wonders for any QB at any level. Here in Cleveland this year Brian Hoyer looked fantastic right up to the game when all-pro center Alex Mack went down and with him the running game. And from that point on he was awful.
Fix the running game and the QB will follow.

Do you think Dantonio's teams are just going to start sucking? How about Urban Meyer?
We have some ground ground to make up here folks. Harbaugh has a winning formula...hopefully it works sooner rather than later...if he ends up here that is.

I remember watching Speight at the open scrimmage in August. He looked a ton better than Morris. With another year under his belt, plus JH's coaching, he'll be a fine middle-of-the-pack B1G quarterback next year. Barring Rosen coming, I'm predicting he'll be the starter.

I wonder if there's a fifth year transfer qb out there who would jump at the opportunity to work with Harbaugh. Wisconsin's had some pretty good success finding such guys.
December 27th, 2014 at 11:27 AM ^
Or Malzone, for that matter. But, then again, as some have said here, Harbaugh's a great developer of QB talent, so we should be openminded about Shane.

Harbaugh will know the one to go with! I think Shane may turn around under JH!
