It is quite remarkable how we have to go after others seconds, at DT... people here been screaming for years about no DTs, only to see each recruiting class not have any... same was going on with Hoke and OT.

This is actually a quality player from a Power 5 conference, not someone who's a major projection to contributing in the B1G. Also the reason DT is a disaster is attrition from the 2017 class, not recruiting! We wouldn't be playing true freshmen at DT regardless. The poor DT recruiting is more a sign that it's going to remain a problem for a couple years because we haven't recruited sufficient depth to alleviate the problem moving forward.

They just fired the DC that created this situation and you're bitching about how to rectify the problem as quickly as possible. How about we do it your way through only recruiting and get shredded up the middle for the next 2-3 years while we wait for that to happen.

PSU has the reverse situation of Michigan.  I think they had like 10 DTs on the roster this year and were not due to lose any/many due to graduation.

The will probably be looking for DEs though as they only had about 5 and were expecting to lose 3.

With the free transfer and extra year of eligibility, the need to name a new DC soon is extremely important so we can start trying to get anyone we are interested in, into the mix.

Can only see two reasons he'd leave. One, he's following a coach that's leaving. That would be a potential for UM to land both. Two, he wants to finish with a winner. That would not make UM a likely landing spot. Although he's good, he's not elite, which is why it's surprising he'd leave. I don't see him going home to OSU because the Bucks already have plenty of DT talent better than Shelton. Odd move to me, unless he's headed to Cincy or knows something we don't.

I wonder if it’s easier to transfer credits from another Big Ten school? It seems like that’s been an issue for previous non grad-transfer candidates. Even players that did transfer like Shea had to fight for a lot of their credits earned at their previous school.

Doesn't help right now to try to recruit dt's and cornerbacks when we don't even have a defensive coordinator and our head coach hasn't officially accepted a contract extension.
