PSA: Football Team Holding Open Tryouts

I think any regular contributor to this board who criticized even one player for making a bad play last year should be REQUIRED to attend these tryouts. But that's just me...

Joking aside, I found this sentence odd: "NCAA eligibility rules require student-athletes not be more than six years removed from high school." Is that actually correct? I distinctly remember a few stories this year about a 40-something defensive end at an FBS school. Plus, isn't Stetson Bennett like 35 or something??

What about Brandon Weedon?  Wasn't he 28 when he played for Oklahoma State?

Unless he was held back in high school a few years, I don't get it.

The six years out of high school thing isn’t exactly/completely how it works, but it gets the job done because it’s a safe cut off line for compliance purposes. Ostensibly the walk ons would be enrolled students, so their eligibility clock would start then (when they first enrolled), but which isn’t an easy compliance check, whereas just going with six years out of high school would be. In the case of the older athletes  (like Weedon and Reed) it’s because they hadn’t previously enrolled. It works in the reverse, too (ie when your clock is up, even if you have eligibility years left, you’re done (generally)). I suppose the purpose is to prevent people like me who are 20+ years out of school, but who still have NCAA years left unused, from re-enrolling and playing (note: any sport, not just the one you used eligibility in, at any school).

I tried out for and indoor football team 18 years ago at the urging of my friend who played for the team. Made it to the 2nd round before I was cut. I feel pretty proud of that since at that time I hadn't played football in 10 years. I did play winger on the city rugby team prior to that, so I wasn't going in fully unprepared, but still, it felt good to not get cut in round 1 haha.

I thought I heard one the TV commentators saying that the TCU kicker was 29 years old. There are more than a few kickers in the NCCA Div 1 football who came over Australia who are in the their mid 20s. I may be wrong...

-Just sayin.

Shit FauxMo.

That would be the entire board pretty much.

University of Michigan Medical Center orthopedic wing would be overrun worse than the covid epidemic.
