em0?

Also, I'd put Avery in front of Talbott. I don't think Johnson or MRob are ever going to be safeties... I think the 2012 starting safety isn't even on the team yet.

Edit: And I'm an idiot as the person said below JT Floyd will be a RS Sr. in 2012 so he should be one of the starters.

Am I the only one that thinks he has actually been pretty good?  CC getting burned against MSU is no different than JT getting burned against Western last year.  All the missed tackles and poor coverage by CC, Talbott and Avery are no different than what happened to JT last year.

Obviously JT was in his 2nd year on campus last year, but it was his first real opportunity to see the field.  Likewise, TWolf didn't really see the field until his 3rd year on campus last year and everybody was saying he would be a borderline All Big Ten (Twelve) CB this year.

I'm not sure we can assume that our 3 freshman will be better CBs than JT in 2012 or that he "is just the best option we have right now and the corners we have with real talent are just too young".  I read this as you inferring that JT does not have real talent.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I can see, I would have to disagree.  JT has done his job in our cover-3; he hasn't gotten beat, he has been decent in his tackling ability, I can't really think of a moment in any of the games where he made a WTF play.  He actually played well in bump-and-run coverage against MSU.  He's not Woodson, Jackson or Hall but he looks like somebody that is and will continue to be a very solid CB for us.

Nothing happened hat I know of. She lives (lived?) in K-Zoo. He just FB chatted her about how hot she was and yadda and she asked if I knew JT Floyd and I'm all "not personally" and she's all "he said he thinks I'm hot on FB Chat" and I'm all "that is great, but secretly I think it is weird that a guy would do that when it plainly says In a Relationship with _____ right on your page and I will forever think he is at least kind of douche bag man for it." Anyway we broke up because I drunkenly "sexted" (sexy texted for you silver hairs) some random at a bar once and she went looking through my phone the next day while I was in the shower (obviously I was blacked out because I didn't delete the text, like, duh as fuck) and she freaked out. From that point onward she had horrible trust issues and it crumbled finalizing in me leaving Rothbury a day early after having a pilgrimage in which I "discovered" I really loved her and drove to K-Zoo to be with her on 4th of July and then when I left that was the last time I ever saw her agian (she went on a pilgrimage of her own and found the exact opposite emotion at the end). Although I never physically cheated on her I did emotionally cheat on her and I learned from that. I have another GF now with whom I live with who doesn't freak out and who I have and will never cheat on emotionally or otherwise. His Dudeness - a tale of drugs, sex and weird JT Floyd interactions.

Agreed that Cam Gordon could be a great WILL.  I also think that if Kovacs gets benched, it's only because all of these guys exceeded expectaions.  Now excuse me while I laugh like a James Bond villian at our projected offensive roster.

I like your thought to look ahead, but lets get this season done first. It is WAY to early to look ahead to the 2012 starting lineup because we have no idea what the rest of the recruiting class looks like for this year or even next year. You never know there could be some guys this next recruiting class that become studs and start that we haven't even gotten commits from yet (Zettel, Crawford, Walls to name a few).

Isn't Stokes an outside receiver exclusively?

I could see Khoury starting at center in 2012.  Those extra two years of experience over Pace could make a big difference.  If it's close I think that the more experienced guy gets the nod.  2012 will be a "win now" year.

I can't believe that we are talking about the starting line-up not for this week, not for any game this season, not even for NEXT season, but for 2012.

Awesome, I'm in:

My first observation - only 3 sophs and 0 frosh on offense.  Obviously that could change with injury or transfer (or, alternatively, a break-out recruit who comes in ready to kick ass), but barring anything unexpected, this is a solid offense.  Senior Denard, with a somewhat experienced Dee (backed up or backing up experienced RBs) is going to be deadly, expecially behing that line.  Lewan will be a donket-hating man-beast by then.

My second observation - with the exeption of the Tablott / Ash DE spot - all upperclassmen on defense.  Think about that for a second.  All upperclassmen.  All on scholarship.  All experienced.  All playing their natural positions.  It may not be the most 5* stacked D in the country, but it will be light years from where we are now.

This looks like a very good team.  To me, barring injuries, the only thing that could derail us is if we go on another epic B10 slide which somehow results in RR not lasting until next year.  Right now, that is my biggest concern.

This thread is filled with so much hype and anticipation based on recruiting rankings.

Would be a funny read for the start of the 2012 season.

I don't think we will be running a 4-3. If one thing is clear it's that richrod likes the 3-3-5. I think we will be running a more aggressive 3-3-5 than what we are now. FWIW bama runs a 3-3-5 and it seems to do the job. From watching this d and comparing it to others I've seen, it seems like this d(3-3-5) is less forgiving to mistakes than a conventional 4-3, but once you get the players to run it there is so much you can do out of it. Richrod came in and ran his o so once he got the players in place to run it everyone was familiar with it. I assume that's what they are doing with the d, if they can get by then it will pay off in the long run. If anything I think it shows his confidence in his job security.

The fact that in 2 years were going to be able to debate on who should start and where compared to this year and even last year when we didnt have any other options, is a huge positive.

Hope to see Furman, Kellen Jones, Walls, and Byron Moore in this starting lineup.

Jernigan and DePreist wouldnt look bad in that lineup either.

Looks good right now, but I see some difference makers that move up into the starting lineup on D coming aboard between now and then..  Of course that would be hard to predict seeing as they are not on the roster yet.

The fact that there will be a lot of upperclassmen no matter who starts is very encouraging.  Not having to play a ton of freshmen will be great.

We need a Martinesque man-beast in the middle. If we don't pick up that guy or Big Will is still standing too tall we might need to run a 4-3 to get the most out of our d-tackles. I love all of our guys but we need to remember how truly phenomenal Martin is.

Alternatively, here is what people in 2008 were probably saying about the 2010 start game.

QB - Newsome / Beaver

RB - McGuffie / Shaw (half hit)

WR1 - Stonum (hit)

WR2 - Hemingway (half hit)

Slot1 - Odoms (hit)

TE - Koger (hit)

LT - O'Neill

LG - Mealer?

C - CMolk (hit)

RG - Barnum

RT - Khoury

Defense (Assuming 4-3)

DE - RVB (hit)

DT - Will Campbell? (class of 2009 I know - not much else out there)

DT - Mike Martin (hit)

DE - Sagesse (half hit)

LB - Mouton (hit)

LB - Ezeh (hit)

LB - B. Smith

S - Mike Williams

CB - Warren

CB - Turner (i know - class of 2009)

CB - Cissoko

Offensive projections would have been: 5/11 hit

Defensive projections would have been: 4.5/11 hit, one of which was Ezeh, so really 3.5/11

I think this goes to confirm why our D is so bad.... Thoughts?

What about Schilling?

Overall approaching 50% right, but must of the misses were on the OL and in the nuclear blast decimated DBs.  It seems reasonible that the RR has enough of his own pieces in place now that there would be more stability from 2010-2012 than from 2008-2010.  We'll have to see and trying to project a trend off one data point and logic is tricky, but my guess is that the OP's projection might have a hit rate approaching 70%.

Beavis

Good call on Schilling.  So, 6/11 hit, or 55%.

While I agree the keeping of one's head coach should lead to more stable results, 70% might be a stretch, and here's why:

Players that haven't seen the field or have never had a meaningful/starting role:

  • Offense (7): Hart, Miller, Gallon, Stokes, Washington, Pace, Schofield
  • Defense (4): Talbott (DT), Big Will (close call, but I included him), Jones/Furman, and MRob

So that's half a starting team right there that hasn't seen the field.  To assume a 70% rate, you'd have to get 16 out of 22 right.  That means 5 out of the 11 above have to hit.  Possible?  Yes.  Would I take the other side in a bet?  Absolutely.

imagine if we said what our 2010 starting secondary would be before the 2009 season:

warren and boubacar at the corners with troy and vlad at the safeties in a 4-3 with mike jones/ brandin hawthorne as a hybprid safety.

seasons change, time passes by, as the days become the weeks become the years (name that show).
