Positive Vibes

So, I watched a superior team out play another and still lose the game today. Why? Because they made a couple timely plays and caught just about every break. I refuse to point blame or say a coach should be fired. I think we played well enough to win. I hate to go “any given Sunday” on everyone. But the inches are all around to win the game. A vast majority were out of our hand. I personally think we got screwed. I’ll say it. Not one drive MSU had was not aided by some drive extending bullshit. Us on the other hand, earned every yard. I felt the same way I did after harbaughs first game against Utah. We lost that one, but, i felt optimism after that one too. Do you think we aren’t the better team watching that game? I mean, we lost on the scoreboard and there has to be something said for that. But, we’re better. Clearly. So just  chill and pump the breaks on hot takes.

You are so right. I feel much better than yesterday about this team and Harbaugh. We knew the young QBs are going to have growing pains and it showed. We still had a chance to win. Hats off to MSU for pulling it off. But they had help from refs. RZ offense, untimely turnovers, weak secondary made this. But refs making big mistakes and not calling hold has made this game difficult to evaluate. There is no telling how well we would have done if our DL was not held on every single play. Even our secondary was held and was not called. Now I believe that this team is going to be able to score and this offense is capable of doing that. Let us see what happens rest of the year. I remember saying a while back that I wouldn't be surprised if we lose to MSU but win every other game in B1G because of the boom or bust nature of MSU.

Yup. You're both right. We did have the better players, but we had the wrong approach. This one is 100% on the coaches. The issues with the defensive subs was a pretty good representation of that. Either MSU spotted an advantage with our defensive substitution patterns and exploited our coaches, or MSU did something they always do and our coaches weren't prepared. It's indefensible either way.

That is bullshit and far from the truth.

Tucker was able to recruit an entire team off the transfer portal due to all the rule changes and he got damn lucky to find Walker.

Take Walker off MSU and they are an average team to say the least.

1 person is doing all the damage over there.

There used to be rules in place to avoid this type of situation.

Now, not only do the players not have to sit out a year, they can sign a fake contract and collect $$$.

1) Harbaugh did bring in a couple of transfers

2) It is much easier in bball since, given the number of players, 1 transfer can make a much more of an impact and bringing in 1 transfer is much easier than bringing in 8-10.

3) Tucker brought in many transfers.  Given he also brought in a hs recruiting class that means some pretty significant roster management occurred.  There is pretty significant push back at Michigan when people get processed out in recruiting.  Can you imagine the push back if multiple scholarship players were effectively cut?

Tucker hit the transfer lottery.  That is not usually how it happens.  Guys are typically in the transfer portal for a reason and it's not because they are Heisman finalist.

Michigan's offense looked better yesterday.  Walker played an amazing game and his patience running the ball and then accelerating when he sees the hole is next leverl.  Thorne hit an NFL level throw on 4th and 4.  MSU made some great winning plays, so you tip your hat to those efforts.  MSU has nothing to do with the officiating.  If Michigan got every single contraversial or close call no one on here would bitch about that (however the good fortune would probably be acknowledged).  It is really unfortunate to be on the rough end of every close call.

Harbaugh should and will continue to get heat for losing to highly ranked teams.  Losing to rivals. Losing on the road.  But if you don't think this team looks far better and is on an upward trajactory then I think you may be too poisoned to Harbaugh at this point to be objective.  I will be very curious how the team comes out next week and how the environment in the stadium will look like.

A lot of problems would be solved with Playoff expansion.

We don’t win the Big Ten in basketball every year but at this point we’re a good enough team to make the Tourney and at that point we’be been a good enough team to make a run.

Harbaugh has something like a .716 win percentage now even after the loss yesterday. Let’s see how the rest of the season plays out if he beats the teams he should beat and then beats PSU on the road that really is an excellent season. Wisconsin is not a bad team. PSU is not a bad team. We made enough plays to win the game yesterday. We also didn’t make enough plays.

if we can play well against OSU with all of the above that is a great season and does show growth.

Go back on here and search some of the after game threads from the games in 2015 and 2017 and they will sound exactly like this. "Well if O'Neil didnt drop the snap and the refs didnt throw out Bolden we win" or "If O'Korn doesnt throw 4 picks we win". Dont people get tired of playing this if this and if that game after 7 years of the same type of losses?

This post is Michigan football in a nutshell. "We may have lost but we're clearly the better team". The same attitude plagues the program and it's why it will never win anything in the current state.

Normally, I’d say you’re way off.

But right now? You’re spot on. Michigan Football is trash. Absolute garbage. I’ve defended Harbaugh for years. I just can’t anymore. Michigan State is overinflated garbage. And Michigan lost to them. Michigan just sucks now.
The ceiling? 10-2. Every year. You’ll be 10-2 every year… but the losses will always be Michigan State and Ohio State. You can’t fire Harbaugh because who do you get? Go hire Matt Campbell and go 7-5/8-4 every year? No thanks.

? I’m not defending him. I’m accepting that Michigan football is complacent and fine with being 10-2 with rarely beating Michigan State, and never beating Ohio State. Indiana had little problem holding Walker to 84 yards. Nebraska held Walker to 61 yards. Michigan is supposed to have a good defense and we just let him get 190+. Michigan is a Tier II football program now, and Harbaugh isn’t going to change that. Now I’m not saying fire him, because there are no “proven options” that are an upgrade. Just accept the fact the block M now stands for Mediocre and move on. Michigan will never be in the playoff conversation. They won’t even be in the Conference Championship conversation when the Calendar flips from October to November. That is why I called them “trash”. Are they actual trash? No. Just pissed that Harbaugh can’t figure it out, but guys like Mel Tucker can. This program is cursed. And not even Jim can fix it.

Aren't people who hold this opinion tired of spinning every deflating Harbaugh loss as aCtUaLlY a PoSiTiVe DeVeLoPmEnT? Who gives a fuck if Michigan is the better team if unforced errors lose them the game?

Here is what you said earlier today (3:37 p.m.): "F*** this entire team. F*** them."  (You didn't use asterisks.)  Frankly, I don't see why this kind of behavior is allowed on the board.  You are not a good fan.  Your posting only hurts the team and the program.  Our message boards are filled with dumpster fire posters.  Please, find a new team.  Go root for Alabama.  You will be much happier.  Follow your bliss.

1) Your response doesn't address anything I said.

2) Imagine being so obsessed with someone that you go through their posting history to find one comment, delete 90% of it, strip it of the context of what was happening in the game at the time, and then use that as an excuse to climb on a soap box about how they are a Bad Fan. No, random comments from me in the midst of a 3,000-comment thread is not hurting the team or the program. And you don't get to decide which team I get to root for. If you don't like what people post on this board and are so easily offended by the word "fuck," why don't you find somewhere else to go? Follow your bliss.

This board has become a cesspool.  And yes, the small number of posters who feel the need to spam the board with their toxic bile is a huge reason.  There are a handful of them out in full force today.  And no, the word "fuck" itself doesn't offend me.  But saying on the public message board of the most popular Michigan football site :"F*** this entire team.  F*** them."?  Yeah, given that we remove posts (and posters), I think that is the kind of thing that is worth censoring.  And yes, I think that is the mark of bad fan.  Did the players do something unethical today?  Some cheap shot?  Did they give up?  I don't think college football players who lose a close, hard fought game deserve to be treated like that by their own "fans."  Of course I can't decide what team you choose "to root for."  But I sure hope it's not Michigan going forward.  (What you are doing isn't really "rooting for" Michigan.  Go stand by the tunnel as they walk off the field next time and tell them that to their faces if think these comments are okay for a "fan" to make about their college team's players.)

Loss is a loss. Can never be happy with that. However, the rest of the Big Ten season will be a war of attrition. It is far from over. We need to recover next week and move on. We found our QB. This is the Cade I was expecting to see. Gamer, extending plays, good throws, able to run just enough. Andrel Anthony has size and speed that could be powerful. Corners held up well again, secondary had a few difficult picks just slip through. Need to stop the long runs from happening and get lined up on defense quicker, including substitutions. Also, still dropping too many passes unless your last name is Anthony or All.

Shore up the weaknesses, build on the strengths, and don’t lose this game twice. Aside from Georgia and Alabama, the rest of college football is a jumbled up mess of parity.

There's some strange PTSD where they feel like any amount of bad play or a loss means the worst part of our history is going to repeat itself over and over. If they could just look at this season without rehashing the past, they'd see we're doing really well so far.

Except that they embrace their own misery so tightly that they block out anything that might interfere with their narrative.

I rewatched a large part of yesterday's game this afternoon rather than watch the Lions and for the most part enjoyed it even though I knew the ultimate outcome. I also enjoyed it more than I enjoyed any of my several brief visits to moderate the board today.  The angst, negativity, and anger of many "fans", 30+ hours after the end of yesterday's game, is more ugliness than it's worth subjecting myself to.

Not that I'm at all happy that we lost; instead, it's that once I look past the defensive substitution penalties that are correctable and especially the undeserved ref screw job on several bad calls and non-calls, I see a Michigan team that would beat this year's state team most days and actually looks capable of running the table the rest of the regular season.
