has michigan had a night game in the last couple decades? and if they have, how long ago was it? why don't we try it one time on a year when we have 8 home games like this year, then the season ticket holders who don't want to deal with the reasons not to have a night game like traffic and drunk people will still have the regular 7 home games to go to so they won't feel gypped and then they can sell their ticket to somebody who wants to go to a night game, probably for a lot more money than they usually would be able to. and if it doesn't work out, then the issue should be closed for a decade or so until they decide it is time to try it again

when you say ever, you mean not since we started fielding a football team then. well, then the reasons against night games are are hypothetical then. the city and alumni can't be sure what they think is going to happen. it might actually turn out being a good thing for the city, you never know. it's kind of like people who claim not to like a certain food, like sushi. then they try it and love it and proclaim they are disappointed it took them so long to try it. and if they don't love it and it ends up being a horrible idea then they don't have to do it again.
.....but again, you've identified the salient issues. Michigan has a lot of alumni who travel a long way (Me, I travel from Minneapolis for games) to these games. Others live locally but have a lot of money and don't want night games. Finally, I've read here many times that AA doesn't want the increased burdens of a night game.
You can keep banging your head here on a message board about night games. Many people here agree with you - heck, we all are actively involved with the intricacies of the team (recruiting, personnel, night games, maize jerseys) and that's why we're on message boards talking about them. Unfortunately, we can't drive policy here.
The people you need to focus upon to change minds are in the athletic department, on the AA City Council and police force, and the Alumni Associations.

yeah, it's true we can't do anything. it's too bad strength in numbers won't work here because im pretty sure the majority of the students and people under 30 who go to games are up for it, just by what i see on this blog. the problem is that the streets in this city aren't designed to deal with lots of traffic. if you go to gainesville, the road that the stadium is on is at least 2 lanes each way with it becoming 3 lanes at some points and the cross roads are 2 lanes each way. we have main and state, one way each direction, lots of no left turns and no turn on reds. it really would be a hassle, but there are 365 days in a year, 364 of them without night games seems like it should be doable. I mean, if the art fair isn't a problem for 4 days, one night game shouldn't be that hard for city council to plan around. also, lots of colleges have alumni that travel long distances for games and they still have night games, that is a moot point.
where are you getting sushi at? i like sushi town on packard. they have really creative rolls. godaiko is really good, but too expensive to eat very often.
...the "viewing" there was insane. Big fan of warm-weather night games. And sun dresses.
I live in the Twin Cities. I get my sushi from my employer's cafeteria, and also a number of very good local Japanese restaurants.

I went to a sushi place in AA when UM played OSU in basketball last season. It was pretty decent.
i would assume that is the one you went to. as you walk in the door, the main room is a narrow hallway with the kitchen and order counter on the right. as you walk back through the hallway it opens up into a dining room.
No buffer zone to the restroom?

I'm having Sushi for dinner tonight too. It's a place called Wasabi, underneath my gf's apartment. They have a great sushi happy hour, 1 dollar for 4 pieces of spicy tuna or california roll. All other sushi, sashimi and rolls are half off.

Well, that's also a moot point, since in the past, the broadcasters have brought in lights for 3:30 starts. Also, the new press boxes are wired for lighting, so that excuse doesn't work anymore.
The TV station usually brings in portable lights. The MSU game that went to triple OT would have been continued on Sunday had it not been for the portable lights. So while we have not had a game that actually started at night, we have had games that have run fairly late.
I would like to see them at least give a night game a chance. I believe that Martin had the stadium wired just in case when they started the renovations so it is not out of the question.
They've had permanently placed portable lights around the stadium for years, which you need because a 3:30 game at the end of October or November in Ann Arbor basically is night.
I don't care one way or the other, but I do have a neat thought.

Play a night game starting at say 7 PM. Open the gates at about 3:30 and open up the new buildings and suites to tours. Just as a one shot deal so your nosebleed ticket holders can see the suites and so on.
we could field a better team, play up to ohio states level this year, hope it's overcast that day, and go into a 6 overtime game so the most exciting part of the game is played in the dark. thats not too much to ask is it?

The "portable" is a reference to the quality of structure and the lights. So, yeah, they have permanent "portable" lights. I.E. You can mount a lantern to a wall but that doesn't make it a wall lamp :)
By the way, my serious answer to the question: If I were a student, then yes. Night games rock for the student body because you can sleep in all you want, drink all day, show up piss-drunk and loud as hell, and enjoy the fairly rare night atmosphere of a game (it's not better necessarily, or worse, but it's different and that's a plus.) Night games are a better party in general, both inside and outside the stadium. You guys who went to Michigan, I'm afraid you're missing out.
But since I'm not a student, I'll stick with the tradition. Watching a game on TV, it's just TV and it makes no difference night or day. And in order to go to a game, well, I live in Rhode Island now, but when I do move back to Michigan it'll almost certainly be to the Detroit area somewhere. This means driving home after the game and that means getting stuck in game traffic at 11:30 PM and not really getting home til after midnight. Night games are only good for the fans if you can walk to the stadium.
Take a shit in one hand and make a wish for night games in the other hand. See which one becomes true first. Night games would be great, but ain't gonna happen.
