Not that many of us thought otherwise.

Also, don't know the credibility of the source either. Either way, thought is was board worthy

but depressing question.  Would you play the bowl game?  Would you go all out in the bowl game?  One of the distressing side effects of the playoff era is that college football is boiled down to the "haves" and "have nots" after the regular season.  These are not the days, aside from the Rose Bowl, where each bowl was "special" in its own right and that being the "Champion" of that bowl stands on it own merit.  We just missed out on the "haves" and find ourselves in "have not" position.  The question has to be asked if you are Peppers, Lewis, Charlton, Wormley, why exactly, would I take this chance?

is a poster boy for not playing in the bowl game. Suffered a likely career ending injury on a routine play. He still got drafted but the medical diagonis isn't promising. He still can't feel anything on his foot (aka drop foot).

is what I mean.  I get it, we all pined for a playoff, and it was the right move to move toward it going all the way back to the early BCS days.  But it has changed the rest of the bowl landscape as has TV and the ease of travel.  No longer are bowl games about teams from different region testing their metal against other foes they seldom see.  There is no regional or really even conference based interest involved.

Players see what these bowl games are about now and they are flat out about money that the players aren't making.  For us as fans, Michigan v. Florida State in the Orange Bowl is must see TV and something that we will wait all of December anxiously to watch.  For a player who has $15 million dollars lined up, it is waiting a month to play in order for a sponsor to make a killing with no real competitive motivation to win the game.

Go to an 8 team playoff.  Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, Fiesta, Outback, Holiday, Citrus and pick one more covering all of the games.  Keep the bowl games with any form of tradition or stand alone merit for the playoff games and scrap the rest of the bowl games. Yes, some teams will get left out of bowl season but they should not be there anyway and they play 12 games already.  Bowl games are a very dated model and I understand why players would want to opt out.  Sad but true.

Of course he's going.  He will get a guarantee around $15 million at his projected draft position.  Harbaugh will be the first to tell him he can't turn down that kind of money and really has all to lose and nothing to gain by coming back.

He has been a pleasure to watch and I hope he has a Woodson-like career in the NFL if he wants to stay that long.

An all-pro playing what? His coverage skills are weak for a safety, and he'll get buried by guards as a linebacker. He could be good in the continued hybrid-nickel role but I don't see him being one of the best defenders in the league.

He is a sure first rounder. That means a contract length of four years with a team option for five.

The faster he can get to the second contract in a sport that averages two years per player the better for Peppers.

He will be missed but it's the obvious choice.

Now, if Hurst and Cole leave when they have a year left and can improve the draft stock. I say stay to both of them. I think hurst is leaving as well though.

The only surprise is that...  Wait, there is no surprise.  None whatsoever...  Get paid, Jabrill, you've done you're time and earned it.

But I feel slighted because we only got two years of him on the field!  Sucks, but he needs to go and I don't hold anything against for leaving.

As much as we'd love to have him for another year, the risk of injury to his financial future is a major concern. Even just a hampering injury could cause him a potential loss of millions. Thanks for the memories, Jabrill, and good luck in the NFL.

There is no way Harbaugh is letting him come back. Jim is a guy who wants to get his players to the league. He knows Jabrill can play at that level just like we all do and will instruct him to enter the draft. Jabrill gave us two years of top 5 defenses and will be a first round pick along with Jourdan and Taco.

Coach Harbaugh will have a busy night in the the draft room. This we should be thankful for after the last couple of years with Rich Rod and Hoke.

I'm looking forward to seeing the numbers he'll put up at the combine. I'm expecting some good bench press numbers and some solid sprint/agility times.

Would not have been a good decision to return. It's getting difficult to find guys much older than 28 or 29 still in the league. Such a violent sport, definitely a good idea to get paid while you can.
