Our FB staff is comprised of...

Submitted by 1464 on

- A head coach with the 5th best winning percentage EVER in the NFL.  Oh yeah, after inheriting a moribund team in SF.  And also, he's a former NFL quarterback with a knack for coaching the position.

- Two position coaches who were coordinators at the NFL level.

- One of the (if not THE) best young DC in the NCAA.  Also the recruiter of the year a few years ago.

- One of the greatest Michigan players of all-time as a running backs coach.  Who also happened to have marinated in the NFL for a year prior to his hire.

- An OC who spent time in the NFL and developed big, tough, bruising offensive lines.

-S&C coach with NFL experience on the resume.

- A special teams coach(!!!) that not only has had continued success, but also wrote the book on academics for athletes.  Like, really wrote the book.

- A DB coach who has both played and coached at the NFL level.

It also looks like we are returning our two best recruiters under Hoke.  Am I spinning this?  Maybe a bit.  But damn.  Read that list again.  That's just ridiculous.  And no, there is no new info here - just a concise reason for us to get our jazz hands warmed up on a Friday.  Sorry I'm not sorry.

I don't think it'll break 65 today.

But this is a great write up, 1484. It's hard to not have high expectations and excitement, and it's pretty great to have the fan base all on board with the hire.

I feel awkward when people address me by my internet formal name.  1484 doesn't flow off the tongue.  I should, perhaps, change it to a string of letters that form words instead of a set of numbers that have no meaning to anyone but me.

I just wanted you to know it was YOU! Mr. Chicken Lips...that I was referring to. I like your summary of the current going-ons.. ((I was going to call you Chicken Lips...and I actually gave it a thought...does that help? I was hoping to be more respectful with 1484))

I actually would say "fourteen-eightyfour"....which actually kind of does roll off the tongue. If you say one-four-eight-four....it is a little less catchy, but still not awful. saying one thousand, four hundred and eightyfour...that isnt catchy at all.

Hey, it's better than the last couple weeks. 55 degrees in January? No thank you...

On topic: this list makes me way too happy. But then, I was a hype for our staff in the past, so maybe I should wait...nah, these guys are awesome. Thinks looking up!

Here's some wishful/hopeful thinking....

Harbaugh won't need to make changes because the coaches aren't working out.... Harbaugh will be forced to make changes because his staff is constantly being poached by other teams offering head coaching positions to coordinators and coordinator positions to positoin coaches. #UofMcoachingtree

This is who I'm waiting on. Last night JUB said it was a done deal without any explanation. He was quick to jump the gun a week ago about some assistants (Lance Anderson I think, or maybe Turley), basically someone had to correct him right away. I guess until I see coaches names on the Mgoblue.com website, I'll be hesitant. Only Durkin and Harbaugh are listed so far.

Edit: As I write this Drevno is officially announced, make that 3!

if we will see anyone wanting to transfer, I get the feeling the intensity level of the program will be sky high like some might not be ready for.

When you think about it from an outside perspective, this staff is insane, and any player who has even remote NFL aspirations should want to play for them.

However, the reality is that some players will (1) not take to the intensity that I expect this staff to have (especially in comparison to Hoke), (2) find themselves not liking the new schemes, roles, etc., (3) have personality conflicts with some of the coaches that they do not want to work through, and (4) just not be able to hack it with Harbaugh's workout demands.

That's fine.  As long as we manage to maintain most of our major contributors (and Peppers), I am not troubled if we lose a few players here or there, especially those that are less likely to see the field.  I expect that with this staff, the classes of 2016 and 2017 are going to be STACKED with highly-rated talent, so allowing this staff to recruit one or two extra players who fit what they are looking for isn't a bad thing.
