OT: WSU Coach Mike Leach zingers & USC's Kiffin fired in 4, 3, 2, 1....?

Submitted by markusr2007 on

Washington State HC Mike Leach made some amusing comments about playing at USC and the Trojan 2 deep roster:

“It’s not the loudest stadium, but there’s some magic here," said Leach. "From that standpoint, I can’t wait to play here again."

A Washington State coach saying he can’t wait to play here again? Is Haden listening? And Leach wasn’t finished.

“These are high-profile players at USC, for goodness sakes," Leach chortled. "They have their Twitter handle next to their name on their two-deep roster."

With waves of boos surrounding them from late in the first quarter until they walked off the field Saturday, the Trojans players are now feeling the brunt of the fans’ distaste for their coach. This was the worst and earliest expression of dissatisfaction by Trojan Nation in recent memory, and it was certainly the ugliest, and it was hard to blame them.

Meanwhile, "Fire Kiffin" chants at LA Coliseum...during warm ups? Kiffykins response?

"You can’t worry about that, it is what it is," Kiffin said of the boos. "I think I heard those before the game started, in warmups, I’m getting used to it."

But should his players, college kids who really aren’t the target of the boos, have to get used to it?

"We’re getting used to playing on the road," Kiffin said with an odd, tiny grin.

Why would you feel sorry for McQuay? He made his choice, and he had plenty of information. Things might still turn out well for him, but if his coaching situation sucks, that's his fault for choosing the Trojans.

That is beyond stupid. With all the coaches banning twitter to avoid stupid things athletes might say, it seems very USC like to publicize their payers' twitter handles. Anything to make them feel like superstars. It is So Cal after all.

...but I recall chatting, with LSA2000 I think, that mid-season is when we thought Kiffen would be fired by.  We'll soon see, but I think it's probably sooner now.

I remember that conversation, but yeah, now that this is happening and all Kiffin can manage is this:

"We’re getting used to playing on the road"

I have to think that when you're reduced to feeble cracks like this one, the end might be nigh for Kiffin at USC - even if they let him finish out the year, this is very likely his last there. You can't have your players subjected to the negativity directed at you and think it won't affect their performance. The author is right, they shouldn't have to get used to that.

Despite what we all think about USC and all their crap, they are a somewhat traditional program with a storied history.  Their fanbase should be used to them being competitive every year.  I expect that if Lane Kiffin gets another job somewhere, it'll be in some directional school that no one has ever heard of...

I honestly think that USC was just trying to weather the storm of the sanctions with Kiffin as coach in order to allow his replacement a fresh start with no scholly limits, but good ol' Lane is making that really hard to do.

I really hope Kiffin squeezes by with an 8-5 record because this is so entertaining. I hate Kiffen almost as much as I hated Pete Carol, the difference is Kiffin sucks its so fun to watch the shit show.

Kiffins seat is an inferno right now. This team has looked god awful in 2 weeks and losing a home game to WSU is not the way to start. With Stanford asu Zona ucla nd on the schedule they could easily lose 6 games

Kiffen has been a loser everywhere he has coached.  It is amazing that he can continue to con programs out of their HC jobs.  Even if he is fired from USC, you know he will resurface at another program.  He is like an incurable veneral disease.

Jack Del Rio is the HC at USC next year.  He was allegedly offered before Kiffen took it but word got out and he had to deny.  Sounded almost like the whole debacle that got Rodriguez to Michigan.

How many places that he used to coach are still writing checks to Kiffen?
