OT: Wolverine fends off attack from 2 Wolves

As advertised, two wolves were filmed attacking a wolverine.  The wolverine was too fierce and the wolves let the wolverine walk away.

I was kind of hoping it would hurdle one of the wolves.

One of the wolves later complained that it was pretty cold out and they were recovering from the flu.

Very kind of the wolverine to not kill 2 wolves. The wolves wanted blood, the wolverine wanted to play.

I wish the athletic department would use Wolverines more. I don't know how, but I just wish I would hear and see Wolverines more. BUT NO MASCOT!! NEVER A MASCOT!!!!

I know many are going to post sarcastic comments on this video, but I will post something a little deeper.

No matter what some people say, wolves do not hunt or fight without a reason to survive  This is why wolves use a 'scripted' plan when hunting, and in this video they are using a scripted plan to fight competition; kind of looks like they are playing with the wolverine.

If the wolves truly wanted to, they could pounce on the wolverine from each side, and with the strength of each wolves' jaw the wolverine would be dead within minutes.  However; the wolves are not using just strength to eliminate their competition, they are using intelligence to make sure they chase off the wolverine without getting hurt in the process.

I love watching nature and nature's voices take it's course.

Wolves don't fight without purpose but there's an awful lot of proverbial "dick-waving" in nature, the vast majority of which end with one side backing down.  It's the safest way nature resolves disputes.

As you say, if the wolves were hunting they'd flank the wolverine, but they both kept charging head-on instead.  I'm not an expert but it looked to me like neither hunting nor playing -- it looked like a show of force.  Animals generally try to look as big as possible when threatening or feeling threatened; the wolves did that by charging side-by-side.  I guess the wolverine entered their territory so they tried to scare it off.  The wolverine wasn't intimidated in the least, so the wolves decided to let it in.

Long story short, the wolves wanted the wolverine to take the long way around without putting themselves at risk, and wolverine basically won by going, "Bring it -- I'll take you both."

The wolverine went on to eat 42 buckeyes, but that was filmed on a different camera.

Was telling my wife that those things were supposed to be extinct for a while, like the Michigan football team. Do not underestimate a motherf*cking wolverine!

This is cool and all but, in case you didn’t know, on November 27 2021, some Wolverines fended off some Buckeyes to the tune of 42-27. It was snowing that day too.

I too think the wolves were just moving the wolverine out of the area where they were - but in the last frame another Wolverine shows up in the upper right corner so maybe the just decided that an even fight could get a bit hairy.
