OT - Valenti rant ND/MSU - 2006
Have any of you heard the Mike Valenti freak out on the ND MSU game from 2006? It was on 24/7 sports today and I have never heard anything like this. I mean, I love football, I freak out, I refresh more times per day than I want to admit - but this is unhealthy.
If you haven't heard it before, goodness, give it a listen. and you can't stop listening. It is like some crazy mess of a trainwreck that just sucks you into and leaves you dumbfounded.
Chris Childers (I think it was him) said that it was everything he wanted to be and that he could only dream of being like this (or something to that effect). Can anyone enlighten me as to why he would want to be like that? Is it just the passion of the game every announcer wants to achieve?

he did that on the radio. That was one of the all-timers. Definately worth hearing again heading into Notre Dame vs Michigan State 2011 edition. Maybe they'll give him a reason for another freak out!!

how can I listen to 97.1 these days on android? used to listen to it on tunein radio and i've been missing me some valenti tears. monday if sparty loses I can't miss it.

but the Rant was a classic radio moment. I really think that I laughed harder than I ever have at a radio moment during that. You may have your opinion of Valenti, but that shit was good.

what you are hearing is very real. this was pre-mark D, so john L, bobby williams, saban leaving. there were some lean years and every time the spartans seemed to take a step forward, they took two back at the hands of michigan or ND. this game was amazing to watch to, very much like the UTL.
i say real!

I have the entire rant (and show, complete with commercials) on my computer and love listening to it when it's ND-MSU week. My two favorite parts are when his producer comes on and tries to get Valenti to change topics and talk about the good time he had with his dad at the game, in which Valenti tells him to shut up. The other favorite clip is about the 42-minute mark when Terry Foster just loses it and starts screaming and berating him for rooting for MSU even though the Spartans break his heart every time. Foster finally gets control of his senses and goes "Jesus Christ, now I'm acting like you!"

I should add that they send Valenti home after the first hour because he sounded like he got kicked in the family jewels the way his voice got strung out with the yelling. And yes, he was crying at one point too.

Edit - Actually, the best part is where he refers to Desmond's post-game comments that only Sparty could loose that game - and says that Desmond was right.
