OT: Tressel says Pryor's development will be "scary" good.

What is JT up to?  He was at TP's pro day last Saturday offering his phone number to anyone who wanted to talk about TP's abilities.  Now this article where he basically says TP's development will be scary good because he has made so much progress since he can concentrate on football and not have to deal with going to class, schoolwork and, my personal favorite, "the social aspects of being that age".

Does anyone believe TP was losing a lot of practice time concentrating on his schoolwork?  Are the social aspects of that age finding loaner cars to drive and trading stuff for tats?  I know there was a whole thread on TP yesterday, but I just can't figure out why Tressel has such a soft spot for this guy.  He either really thinks he's a father figure or he is up to something that's going to come out of left field.

I thought this was OT because neither are still at Ohio.

I wouldnt rule anything out, like, say for instance, Tressel becoming some sort of paid advisor/coach/somethingofthatilk for the Raiders.

Jim Tressel in a pirate costume with an eye patch...now thats something I'd love to see

Considering he was undeclared his whole time at Ohio State, I'm not going to assume to that he took any high level classes.  I am assuming that he tok a bunch of freshman classes his whole career.

there goes Jim Tressel ladies and gentlemem.... the Senator trying to throw his weight around

you'd think most people in his shoes would know enough to keep their heads down for a long time! Seriously, order pay-per-view, go be a consultant for the CFL, or do anything but talk about the 1 player who you allowed to bring your career to a screeching halt!

smh ....

I still think that if you want advice on how to play field position football, rely almost exclusively on your defense without any real progression in your offense, and waste oodles of talent by never taking chances, then JT may be the foremost expert for you to consult.

He's a good football coach and a good recruiter, and perhaps a little deficient in the character judgment area.

That is kind of my point though - even though he's a wealth of knowledge, it feels like his poor decisions somehow taint his knowledge about X's and O's.  Like his football knowledge is the fruit of a poisoned tree and it cannot be rehabilitated.  I suspect that the sanctions he gets from the NCAA are going to follow him to his next coaching gig in college football, if any.

My son attended Ohio last year and had the "luck" to be in a biology class with TP.  He stated to me that when he did show up he would drag along his tutor, his girlfriend, Posey and Posey's girlfriend.  While class was going on his tutor would take notes while the other 4 sat around and BS'd.  Sounds like his school work was a real distraction.

Long time lurker, first time poster.  Love the site, the information is incredible and the back and forth banter is always entertaining.

It sounds like Tessell inadvertently admitting that he did a poor job developing Pryor, because his schoolwork wasn't that big of a big time sink.  How long does it take to get a tattoo?  Maybe that was the reason.

This really doesn't show anything good.  I mean, other QBs progress just fine with classwork.  Look at Andrew Luck at a university much more challenging than Ohio State.  Pryor never showed any real good progress, and actually regressed from his freshman to sophomore years.  Oakland will odds are switch him to WR or TE or something.

I don't know why he is saying that now his development will be scary good now that he doesn't have schoolwork, ect. Every college quarterback in the country has to do those things, JT acts like TP was the only QB in college football that actually...um...went to college. To top it off it is widely known that TP is not the brightest guy so Jim's point goes even more to shit, it's not like TP was taking pre-med. TP is now an uncaged bird as far as his progress. Spot on, Jim.

TP won't be a QB in the NFL. Accuracy and arm strength far trumps athletic ability at the QB position in the NFL. Not that being a great athlete isn't a plus, but it's not required to be a good NFL QB. Even Sun Tan Man (McShay), who is notorious for overrating QBs (See Woodson, Andre) said that he is an H-Back or a TE. If he can gain 30 pounds and still run somewhat like he does he might not be too bad of an H-Back. That will take a lot of work. Work I don't think he's ever had to put in because of his god given athletic ability. We'll see.

Since we all know that Oakland is the cradle of pro-QBs, I have no doubt they are the perfect place for TP to develop.  Worked great for just about every other QB they drafted in the last 10 years!
