I still wonder a bit about why they would have gotten rid of Tomsula, to be honest. That is about as good as you were going to do in the immediate aftermath of how their relationship with Harbaugh came to an end and at least you also knew what you were getting, and indeed, that propensity to fart during pressers was symbolic of exactly what you were getting. To go out there and nab Kelly, who has no known history of untimely flatulence but has at least coached at a high level is a risk for this organization.

When you hire Jim Harbaugh, you know what you're getting yourself into, or at least should.

When you hire Chip Kelly, you know what you're getting yourself into, or at least should.

If you're a person who has a large ego and isn't particularly easy to get along with when people question your vision of how things should be, it's probably best to not mix yourself with, and tie your fortunes to other people with large egos who don't like it when you question their vision of how things should be. Fit is just as important in a job as competence.

If neither side has any element of being willing to compromise and trust each other, you're going to find yourself as a perennial 6-10, 7-9 team with no change in sight, ever.

You don't say!!!!

Baalke is highly experience in washing Ned York's car and otherwise sucking up to Niners ownership. All Kelly can do is coach. And what's that to Trent?

The article is rumor heavy and has almost nothing behind it, so I am disinclined to treat it too seriously.

But if it's true............ What fun we shall all have!

Must be great to be an NFL exec - most of these guys wouldn't survive 5 years in the actual business world. Imagine the equivalent would be something like: Chairman of the Board ousts incredibly successful CEO; hires idiot crony who runs business into the ground; fires crony; somehow lives to make another hire; ruins that relationship right quick.

Apparently Balke is on the Jim Delaney Life Time Contract plan, with the 49ers.

Great coaches have a singular focus and are borderline crazy.  These GMs and ADs need to recognize that and stay the heck out of the way, as long as the coach doesnt break any official rules.

Saw this article earlier today.  I'm not sure I've ever been less surprised by something than "Trent Baalke doesn't get along with unique, well known coach"

My best friend is a personnel guy in the NFL. He worked with Balke several iterations ago, and still can't quite comprehend how he is in the league. Apparently before the 49ers Trent got the boot from his last job because he was such a giant douche-nozzle. He was basically begging anyone in the league for a job. An old pal threw him a bone at the 49ers. The Niners were terrible and basically fired everybody, the only person to survive the blood letting was the new guy. He then fell into Harbaugh, it was about as lucky as a human could possibly be. My buddy says Balke is literally one of the very worst people in the entire league. The funny thing is I heard this story years ago and no had no idea who this Balke guy was, my buddy was just telling random war stories.
