OT: Tom Brady and Magic Johnson - The impossible is possible

Submitted by RuebenRileyonRye on
Well, even the biggest Spartan on the planet agreed that Tom Brady should be playing Week One. It's a shame that the NFL has continued this witch hunt. Is this surprising to anyone else? Magic seems like a genuine guy, but it seems most alums of rival schools would have stopped short of this stance. http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/new-england-patriots-magic-johnson-backs-tom-brady-081015

So he was in Patriots territory.  Also, they're potentially GOATs at their position.  There's a certain level of respect that goes beyond alumni status when you're in that level of greatness.

If this was Delvon Roe or someone else who hasn't done anything since graduation, then I would expect a trolling comment.

I'm sure Chris Webber would have said 3.5 years for shooting oneself was bullshit in Plaxico's case...this is a bit of a stretch.

I don't doubt that there is rivalrybetween the schools...but across sports...between two hall-of-famers...even if Magic felt differently, what else do you expect him to say? He's a Sparty fan but I also can't remember him every disparaging Michigan

My dad used to say that Magic wanted to go to Michigan...however because he was from EL that there was a ton of pressure for him to stay home.

We’re all competitors,” Johnson said, per The Providence Journal. “We don’t want to see New England without Tom Brady. If you’re a great football team and a great football player, you want to have them at their best. It’s like me saying, ‘Larry Bird, please, (NBA), disqualify him and make him sit down!’ No. I didn’t want that. I wanted Larry Bird, I wanted (Kevin) McHale, I wanted (Robert) Parish, I wanted (Dennis Johnson), I wanted (Scott) Wedman off the bench, I want (Cedric) Maxwell, I want M.L. Carr waving that damn towel around. I wanted everybody.

In addition, count Johnson in the camp with others who believe there was no appreciable effect on the game due to the underinflation of balls. He said that he believe players decide these games ultimately, not balls, videos, etc...

As a note to the OP, I can totally see Johnson feeling this way about it, Spartan or not. I don't really think there are that many fellow athletes that couldn't rise above rivalries on this issue.
