OT: Rooting for Sparty this week?

Submitted by profitgoblue on

Question:  Are people in MGoBlogville rooting for Sparty this weekend?

My two-cents worth:  Normally, I would probably cheer on Sparty against Wisconsin (Wisconsin fans are obnoxious) but I submit that a MSU loss tomorrow hurts Sparty to the point that they come into the Michigan game a bit deflated and flat.  I'm not one to hope for Michigan's competition to come in at less than 100% but, well, I guess that's what I'm rooting for here.  Not that I don't think Michigan can win next weekend - I'd just rather see Michigan come in with a leg up on the competition.

It drives them MUCH crazier when you ignore them, as in "you clowns are the same mediocre self-imploding prison team you've always been, so why would we pay attention one way or the other?"

Get it? Their OBSESSION with beating Michigan and their joy-porn whenever Michigan loses to anyone goes completely unrequited. We are TOO BIG to even care!

On a variety of hands:

Hand 1 - I hope that they lose in some sort of humiliating fashion. I just can't get enough Sparty NOOO!

Hand 2 - I'm not exactly a big Wisconsin fan either, you know.

Hand 3 - Anything that helps us win against Sparty is good, so if they're flat, that'd be awesome.

Hand 4 - But you KNOW after we beat Indiana this week, everyone is going to say, "Well yeah, but they did that last year. We still don't know if they're better." If MSU loses to Wisky, then when we trounce THEM, people will still say we haven't shown anything.

I would much rather see Wisconsin lose than MSU lose.  Wisconsin fans are rabid (moreso than Sparty fans) and I love to see their downtrodden faces when they lose.  Also, a MSU win sets up an interesting matchup between undefeated teams (assuming Michigan wins).  That said, I hope Sparty loses, and loses BIG!

Nope. I can't stand hearing them talk. It doesn't matter about what. I just don't like their fans talking. The only way that they stop talking is if Michigan kills them, and they end up with a losing record. I hope they lose every game in conference.

Rooting for Wisconsin to play their most physical game this year on both sides of the ball. Even if Sparty wins I'd like to see them forced to expend maximum energy in doing so. I'd also like Wisconsin to force MSU to show all their cards (every play in the book) so Michigan has plenty of film to study.

My dear sir, the reason to write both "Sparty" and "root" in the same sentence is obviously to facillitate usage of the word "against."

I doubt Sparty could win this game, and they probably know it.  Instead of wasting their time, they'll probably sacrifice this game to spend more time looking at UM.

i root for sparty in the same manner i root for tOSU, I like the idea of an undefeated match-up when we play our rivals. that way theres more schadenfreuda when we win.

it doesn't help much that 2 of my brother-in-laws are sparty alums though :-(

Except, perhaps, a ND loss. ND should win this week, so I am rooting for Bucky to run over, around and through the MSU lines without mercy.

I want sparty to lose every game.  I like being able to brush them off as second or third tier garbage.  I want to be able to say to MSU people.  "Oh, I'm not from here, I don't know much about MSU, is that a junior college?"  Or maybe, "Oh, you go to MSU, thats great.  Who is your big rival?  Toledo?"

But the results of a football game should have no impact whatsoever on whether you should brush off MSU as second or third tier.  Whether we win our game with them next week or not, we will still be the University of Michigan and they won't be.  Impartial parties outside the state know the difference and no single game will change that regardless of how much Spartan fans want to believe it will.

That said, I want to see Michigan give them a beatin' next weekend, but let's tend to the Hoosiers first....

This wk MSU will realize their RB's won't run all over everyone, and cousins will be eaten alive by Wisconsins Dline

I've got a lot of good friends from UW, and they are much "better fans" than your average crappy Sparty.   I realize they are playing on the road, but UW's city and football environment/stadium are 1st class.   If Michigan miraculously disappeared, or had never existed, I might be inclined to be a Badger man.    So I hope they kick the shit out of MSU tomorrow.
