We will always have Mrs. Doubtfire. Easily one of my Top 5 movies as a kid. He will be missed.

I think it was meant to say he still had a lot to give and he did. Yes he accomplished a lot in his 63 years. No one is disputing that.

Damn shame.

Hard to believe and so sad.
This seems like such an inadequate post but I'm speechless.

Today instantly sucks. One of my favorite actors along with Tom Hanks. RIP
August 11th, 2014 at 8:44 PM ^
Scared me the way you wrote it - thought Tom Hanks had died today too for a minute.

I read the title thinking it was an internet hoax.
So sad. RIP

This. As someone who beat depression and nearly gave into that last final step, I decided to get help and I eventually climbed back to the top.

I need an outlet. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to climb the walls. Thing is, there really isn't much I can do because of work and school, and since I'm now the sole provider for the household, there isn't much (if anything) I can afford. That's why I can't wait for the guys to take to the field. That always raises my spirits. I hope you guys and anyone else that is struggling with mental issues continue to fight the good fight, and not succumb to the demons. RIP Mr. Williams, and thanks for the laughs. I'm sorry you weren't able to find the peace that you so deserved.

I would add that if you "come out" as having depression, anxiety, mental health issues then people react with ignorance. Instead of helping, they act on their prejudices and make your life much more difficult.
There is a serious lack of understanding of these issues, largely because people are unwilling to have a dialogue. This makes getting help much more difficult, because the consequences of getting help are often as bad as going untreated. The results are many good people losing their lives or living in misery. We're failing ourselves. These are our relatives and friends and we're letting them down.

Exactly, I was lucky enough to failed in my suicide attempt back when I was in high school. I was lucky enough to have friends and family that cared enough about to get me help.
The world lost a comedic master. RIP.

You don't know that his depression concerned money, and clinical depression isn't "about" everyday stresses and strains anyhow.
August 11th, 2014 at 7:28 PM ^
That he went broke. That's why he recently came out with that sitcom. When you go from being a multi multi millionaire to broke and not famous anymore. I'm pretty sure a portion of this could be contributed to that.
August 11th, 2014 at 7:30 PM ^
It's terrible news. Very funny guy who made millions of people laugh. That's a hell of a way to give back to the world.
August 11th, 2014 at 7:31 PM ^
He may not be on the level of game that he once was but he was still very famous.
August 11th, 2014 at 7:37 PM ^

August 11th, 2014 at 7:44 PM ^
He still had the asset of Robin WIlliams earning power.

I don't even know where to begin with this one - "The World According To Garp", "Dead Poet's Society", "Mrs. Doubtfire" and many others, even going back to "Mork & Mindy", he was an incredible talent and even an inspiration for some of my own stylings in shows through the years. Growing up, I would watch him perform to get ideas. By 10 (the age I was when this came out), I could, and still can, do all of his radio bits from "Good Morning, Vietnam", I was that in awe.
A terrible loss indeed. RIP Robin Williams.

I think his best performance was one you left out: Good Will Hunting. It's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not fault. Excellent. Such a terrible loss. Rest in peace.
August 11th, 2014 at 7:44 PM ^
That particular scene in "Good Will Hunting" makes me break down every time I see the movie. You're correct, this was an absolutely phenomenal performance and a wonderfully done film. I believe WIlliams won in 1998 for best supporting actor, and it was absolutely deserved.

GWH easily in my top five favorite movies of all time.
August 12th, 2014 at 11:39 AM ^
I absolutely loved him in films, all of those mentioned are great. His stand up never really drew me in, as he just was too over the top, but he was a great one no question. As someone who has had a family member commit suicide, I can say that it was harder on my family to deal with than a "normal death". I still have trouble to this day forgiving my father for that truly selfish act, but that was the way he chose to go out. In the end, it is just sad, as Williams still had great performances ahead of him.

Unfortunately, suicide is not an uncommon ending to that illness.
