Growing up in the I was influenced by Sabbath, Zeppelin, and the Beatles. I was born in '92, and my dad made sure to keep me hip to the classics. I grew to enjoy music enough to pick up a guitar and through a series of God-wink moments I befriended a bass player who used to play semi-frequently at the Grande Ballroom in the late '60's with his high school band. He became, and still is, my music mentor who tells me all sorts of stories of the past. It's incredible to listen to what the music scene was like in his teen and young adult years.

In what has become an almost routine circle of conversation when asked about his influences and yesteryear, we humbly land on The Byrds.

We will talk tonight. I'll grab a guitar and pluck away quietly while getting lost in his stories that he's going to tell me. That's music, man. That's what it's all about. It's the catalyst for our souls to communicate to eachother.

Rock and Roll never dies.

"Teach, your parents well, feed them on your dreams, the one they pick, don't  you ever ask them why. Just look at them and sigh, and know they love you..."

Teach your children well.

I always thought this was an all-time anthem for a lifetime of love and understanding how we navigate our past and appreciate what we don't always know or understand about our parents and grandparents. But I always knew love was passed unconditionally.

I saw CSN twice once with CSNY

Honestly, probably the best concerts I've been to

When I left the Army I splurged and bought tickets for my brothers, father and uncle to see CSNY in Chicago.  Neil Young broke every guitar string on the last song.

They were amazing live, much better than the album.  Saw them in Colorado at a small venue, which made even more special.

this sucks

Ugh. So many will start to fall now that they're in their late 70's and early 80's. It was tough when David Bowie died, and it's going to be tough when Mick and Keith and Pete and Roger die. And Paul and Ringo. RIP.

True story… a buddy of mine met David Crosby and, for lack of a better thing to say (anything), told him “I’m glad you got a new liver”.  Crosby just laughed and said me too

The Byrds' Younger Than Yesterday album probably informs more about what I like and learned to like about music over the years than any other album. Amazingly ahead of its time and still stands up today.

I don't know who wrote it, but Sound of Silence is a hauntingly beautiful song, sung to perfection.  And when Disturbed covered it with a heavy metal beat, Crosby (and one other, I think Nash) reached out to them and congratulated them on a fantastic cover.  And it was - I might like it better than the original...

RIP, Dave...

EDIT:  GAH!!!  I'm an idiot.  Sound of Silence was Simon and Garfunkel, not CSN&Y.  I had just heard the song on the James Corden Show and had it on the mind.  My bad...
