OT: Post your fantasy football team

Submitted by M_Jason_M on

I'm sure a lot of us are in a fantasy league, so let's have some fun.

I drafted first overall in a 12-team snake draft.

QB: Tom Brady - NE

RB: LeSean McCoy - Phi

RB: Alfred Morris - Wsh

WR: Antonio Brown - Pit

WR: Percy Harvin - Sea

TE: Kyle Rudolph - Min

FLEX: Marques Colston - NO WR

D/ST: Denver Broncos

K: Robbie Gould - Chi (I thought about taking Nate Freese from the Lions for homer reasons, but this is less of a risk)

BENCH

Nick Foles - Phi QB

Lamar Miller - Mia RB

DeAndre Hopkins - Hou WR

Steve Smith - Bal WR

Devonta Freeman - Atl RB

Jake Locker - Ten QB (I figured "why not?" that late in the draft, and if he does well enough I can try to trade him)

Travis Kelce - KC TE (I thought about taking Tyler Eifert from the Bengals, but I can't have TWO Notre Dame tight ends)

What do you guys got?

You drafted first and you took McCoy over Charles? Dude. Charles was guaranteed 30 points in my PPR league last year. There was at least once where he got over 50.

I am drafting on 9/4 (2 hours before kickoff and we are then sticking around to watch game at the sports bar where we are drafting.

I have the first pick and had the exact same reasoning! Wonder what would cause two total strangers on a Michigan blog to focus on OL when evaluating a RB!? Good luck.

I think you can't go wrong with charles, forte, mccoy, or peterson...

I would encourage you to look at peterson and what he could do with Norv Turner running the show.  I place more value floors than ceilings;  no one has a higher floor than ADP... in my humble opinion.

I always think it is lame when other people 'call out' people for their draft picks... mccoy, charles, forte, and ADP are all reasonable first picks...

you have to accept fantasy for what it is: a game of chance... learn from other people's picks and try to craft winners for your self.

love you,

QBs good enough.  Good depth at RB.  Strong Starting WR although I worry about Maclin.  TE well I hope Walker hits for you.  As far as bye weeks I stoped worring about them and really like having a good number of my starters out the same week.  Take the L for a week or two and roll with my very best linup the rest of the time.  By the way drafting 7th sucks.

I have a 16-team (yes, 16) auto-draft coming up LOL.  We have people from all over the world in it, and so we have done auto-draft for the past 5 years or so.

My 10-team league's draft is next Wednesday.  I will be researching the hell out of stuff before that.

QB- Matt Stafford (or Tom Brady)

RB1- Marshawn Lynch

RB2- Reggie Bush

WR1- Desean Jackson

WR2- Emmanuel Saunders

TE- Antonio Gates

Flex- Darren Sproles

D/ST- Browns

K- Steven Hauschka

Bench:

1- MJD

2- Mike Evans

3- Hakeem Nicks

4- Brandon LaFell

5- Eric Ebron

6- Mike Tolbert

7- Brady

I have a lot to work with, and I still have a few 1a/1b situations. Brady could obviously supplant Stafford, Eric Ebron could very well be better than Antonio Gates, MJD could vie for a starting role, and any of my bench bench WRs could blow up. All in all, I'm feeling pretty good about it.

They're actually not highly rated. I grabbed Brady in the 5th and probably could've waited another round since he's all the way down past #100 in the projections, and Foles came a couple rounds later. I'm not really sure why no one grabbed Foles before me, but I picked Brady earlier than most would.

after the big three (manning, rodgers, brees)

the next twelve are a crapshoot.

my buddy even wrote an article about itL

WHY YOU SHOULD WAIT ON DRAFTING A QB

The general consensus heading into this season is that Manning, Rodgers, and Brees are the top 3 qb's. I want to focus on the guys that are being drafted behind them. I can make a strong case for the next 12 qb's that have the ability to finish in the top 5.

Andrew Luck- This guy can make all of the throws. He finished last season as the 7th best fantasy qb. He did that without his best wr, and te. With Reggie Wayne, and Dwayne Allen returning, and the addition of Nicks, and let's not forget about the chemistry built late last year with the explosive playmaker TY hilton. Andrew Luck has a chance to be the best fantasy qb.

Mathew Stafford- This guy finished last season as the 3rd best fantasy qb. He's played most of his career with only one legit target to throw to. This offseason the Lions signed a very underrated wr in Golden Tate, and drafted an elite talent in Eric Ebron. The Lions passing game is going to be unstoppable in the redzone with the number of huge targets that Stafford has to throw to. Calvin Johnson 6'5, Eric Ebron 6'4, Brandon Pettigrew 6'5, Justin Fauria 6'7, and Chris Durham 6'6. Let's not forget the number of rb's that are excellent pass catchers coming out of the backfield. Stafford is poised for a huge year, and could easily finish as the best fantasy qb.

Cam Newton- All Cam has done since entering the league is finish as a top 5 fantasy qb. Cam is a duel threat, and I could make the argument that he is not only the best qb on his, but he is the best redzone rb too. There has been a lot of negativity surrounding Cam this offseason, because he lost his entire wr core. I say the receiving core got better. Steve Smith is 35, and 5'8. He has been an awesome pro, but his best years are behind him. Enter Kelvin Benjamin. 6'5 and a flat out beast in the redzone. Carolina also added Jericho Cotchery. Cotchery scored the same amount of td's as Brandon Lafell, Ted Ginn, and Dominic Hixon Combined. I love Cam Newton this year, and he could be the qb in fantasy this year.

Nick Foles- Foles came on strong last year in that crazy fast Chip Kelly offense. Between weeks 9 and 16 Nick Foles was the best player in fantasy football outscoring Peyton Manning in his record breaking season. With a season under his belt Foles is poised to make a record breaking campaign of his own. Even though Philly lost DJAX this offseason. I feel like the return of Jeremy Maclin, the drafting of Jordan Mathews, and the emergence of Zach Ertz is an upgrade to an already potent offense. Look for Foles to continue his success with an even better season.

Matt Ryan- Ryan had a subpar year last year. The o-line was awful, the running game was non-existant, and his two stud wr's were injured. Despite that he still finished as the 11th best fantasy qb last year with Harry Douglas as his #1 option. Now with a revamped o-line, and Julio Jones and Roddy White coming back healthy. The running game is still awful, and the Falcon defense is suspect. All that means to me is that Ryan is going to have to air it out even more. I love Matt Ryan this year as he could make a push at the top fantasy qb.

Tom Brady- A lot of people are writing off Brady, and I don't know why. It seems that so many fantasy writers are short sighted. Brady's numbers were down last year, but that wasn't his fault. I look for Brady to bounce back this season. Last year Amendola, Vereen, and Gronk were injured for the better part of the season. That left Brady with 2 rookies, and Julian Edelman as his arsenal. This year with Dobson, and Thompkins having a year in the system, Gronk and Vereen coming back healthy. I expect Brady to return to the elite level that we all have become accustomed to.

RG3- I've very excited about the arrival of Jay Gruden, and the possiblities of what he can do with a talented qb like RG3. With weapons like Pierre Garcon, DJAX, Jordan Reed, and a couple of pass catching backs. I fully expect RG3 to thrive in this Jay Gruden offense. Sprinkle a few extra rushing td's for the versatile qb and Griffin could finish amongst the best qb's in the league.

Colin Kaepernick- Kaepernick is a physical specimin, and he's heading into this season with a ton of weapons to throw to. Kaepernick is another guy that will get you extra points with his legs. Last season he struggled without his favorite target Michael Crabtree. Well he's now healthy, and the 49ers added depth to the wr core by signing Stevie Johnson, and veteran Brandon Lloyd. The only knock on Kaepernick is that he plays in the toughest defensive division in football. I'd plug this guy in as my starter with confidence on any given Sunday.

Russell Wilson- Wilson finished his sophomore campaign as the 10th overall fantasy qb. Wilson is a dynamic playmaker, and doesn't make many mistakes. Heading into this season with a healthy Percy Harvin, and less tread on the tires for Beastmode. I expect Pete Carroll to let Russell Wilson off of his leash this year. Wilson doesn't have the biggest wr's to throw to, but they are really fast, and can beat any secondary vertically. Look for the Superbowl champ to have his best statistical season yet.

Jay Cutler- Have you seen the wr's in Chicago? They're the best tandem in football. Forte is one of the best pass catching backs in the game too. Cutler hasn't been able to stay healthy for a full season in a while, but the Chicago o-line looks much improved, and that should help. If you combine Josh Mccown, and Jay Cutler's numbers from last year they were the 5th best qb in fantasy. I look for Cutler to stay healthy this year and turn in his best season as a pro. It is worth noting that the NFC North is one of the worst defensive divisions in football. Chicago is going to score a lot.

Tony Romo- All signs point to a huge year for Romo. He's playing behind the best o-line in football. He's got Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Jason Witten, and Lance Dunbar to throw to. That's an excellent core. Romo also has a new offensive coordinator in Scott Linehan. Linehan loves to air it out. As Detroit's offensive coordinator last year Matthew Stafford led the league in pass attempts. Look for Romo to have a monster year.

Philip Rivers- Rivers looked like a brand new man last year with new head coach Adam Gase. He finished the season as the 6th best fantasy qb. Rookie wr Keenan Allen looked like the real deal, and I look for the tandem to build on that chemistry. Ledarius Green has taken the place of Antonio Gates as Rivers go to tight end. I see no reason for Rivers to regress, and he should at least replicate last seasons numbers.

Andy Dalton- The Red Rifle shocked the fantasy world last year when he finished as the 4th overall fantasy player. I don't believe that Dalton has the god given talent as some of these other guys on this list, but I believe that he has the best core of weapons, and he is a grinder. The Bengals have so many playmakers on their team. All that Dalton has to do is get the ball in their hands and they do the rest. I don't believe that he'll be the 4th overall player again, but it wouldn't shock me.

I really feel like the qb position is a crapshoot after the big 3 have been drafted. Any of these guys that I listed could finish in the top 5. So when you're sitting there in the middle of the third round, and Brees, Manning, and Rodgers are all off the board. Don't feel pressured to draft a qb. You can wait. Grab you a stud rb, wr, or te, and get your qb later. Some of these guys aren't being drafted until the later rds. So as long as there is value at other positions. Wait on drafting your qb.

I dropped Eli, whom I picked in a panic with my 3rd-to-final-round pick after I watched both Phillip Rivers and Tony Romo get picked right before me...
