OT-Official Chicago Blackhawks To The Lord's Stanley Cup Thread!

Submitted by HAIL 2 VICTORS on

My Father was born in Ann Arbor and he moved to Chicago where he met my Mother and I was born in 1965.  Although we shared a love for the Wolverines he was never happy that I was a fan of the Blackhawk’s.  We argued over the fact that the Red Wings had the second best looking uni in hockey behind the Hawks.  We argued that the Wings had the leagues second best fan base behind the Hawks.  We argued about Octopi on the ice and making to much noise during the Star Spangled Banner.  I miss watching hockey with the old man almost as much as his company watching Michigan football.

That being said this thread is for all the Wolverine fans who live in Chicago that root for the Hawks and have never seen the Stanley Cup grace Chicago.  The Blackhawk’s are the best team that remains in these playoffs.  They have too much speed for the Sharks and the Hawks defense and penalty kill makes the rookie Neimi that much better as he gains more confidence with every game.  The Hawks will bring the Lord's Stanley Cup to Chicago for the first time in many of our lifetimes.

Most importantly is that as awful an owner as Bill Wirtz once was to the organization his son Rocky has been and will remain all the difference.  Team policies, the front office, television rights and the repair of relationships with all time great Blackhawk’s have completely reversed the tide and turned the Blackhawk’s into a high profile organization.

As incredible as this year has been and as sweet as this Championship will be Blackhawk’s fans should be just as excited that we stand on the precipice of an infancy  of greatness where we get to enjoy a decade or even longer this new era of winning.

As much as I love you all as my Wolverine brethren I wish you nothing but great angst and the gnashing of teeth as these Blackhawk's torture your souls.

They do have an excellent chance to win it this year and in future years. BUT, as a  life long Red Wings fan who lives in Chicago, I must caution you that the next 7 wins will be the most difficult thing this franchise has been faced with in nearly 50 years. So don't get too far ahead of yourself, it is only 1 game of the WC finals.

He's got them winning for a decade! I wonder if he's checked out their salary cap numbers...and how they're not going to be able to afford all their stars when those contracts fully kick in in a couple of years...

They better win it now, because they have a small window.

1.  Patrick Kane is a cab driver punching little bitch.

2. Marian Hossa chokes in the playoffs.

3. You jinxed them by referring to them as the "Blackhawk's" when it's the "Blackhawks."

But you do know how to turn a phrase:

Blackhawk’s fans should be just as excited that we stand on the precipice of an infancy  of greatness

Your infancy, sir, knows no bounds.

Sharks vs Habs; Habs in Six.

i cant help but laugh at the sudden increase in hawks hats, t-shirts, and jerseys being worn around town.....i'll bet 90% of those 'die-hards' have no clue who denis savard, dirk graham, and doug wilson  were - not to mention legends like bobby hull, stan mikita, tony esposito, keith magnuson, et al..

i'm happy to see the franchise relevant again, and have tremendous respect for rocky wirtz and co - though the bandwagon northside fans aka cubs fans can eat a bag of dicks (thanks pasadenablue)

Hawks and bandwagoners is a tough call. Sure bandwagoners exist but it's tough to really get into a team if their exposure is less then the local AHL team. Enter John McDonough & Rocky Wirtz + winning and the marketing department does a 180. I've got no problem with how or why you get on the wagon, just don't jump off when things go downhill.

As a diehard Blackhawks fan, I think we should wait before we anoint them Champions of All Things Sports, as mentioned, these next 7 wins will be far less than easy, some might say darned near hard. As the game noted today, the Sharks are damn good. 45 shots on Niemi. Niemi can't stand on his head at all times. Today was a good start, but there is a long road ahead.

However, I must agree with cltjr, also. While I love that the Blackhawks are back and popular again, it is also outrageously annoying watching all these fair-weather fans boasting about the Hawks when they did not give two shits through the 20-43-11 2003-04 campaign and the seemingly always underachieving Eric Daze and Tony Amonte years. This new swell of Blackhawks pride is great, but let's slow down here and let it play out.

May the Hossa curse end at two years!

to pick who I want to lose the most out of the 4 teams left. I hold no particular ill will towards the sharks at this point, so maybe it's them.

Definitely not the Hawks.

Maybe the Habs, but anyone who says we're all Habs fans, deep down, is full of some deep down stuff.

Can't root for a team with Pronger.

So, in short, I hope the Hawks crash and burn, and other than that, I don't want any of them to win the Cup.

Its like picking the lesser of two evils, or in this case four. Everybody loves and underdog, and Montreal is a big underdog. Especially one that is a giant killer, not only once, but twice. You have to give them some props though. They've stuck to they're system and its been paying off. Halak got chased in the first game against Pitt, just like tonight. I see no reason he can't rebound like he did in that series.

Don't want the Sharks winning after the way they got by the Wings. Don't want the Habs because they already have a lot of cups and its just that much longer it'll be before the Wings catch them (Sorry Cammarlleri, I'm cool with you but not your most-Stanely-Cups team). Don't want the Blackhawks because they're the Blackhawks.

I can deal with the Flyers. I'm sure they'll make sure Pitsburgh knows all about it for the next year if they win it, so they can win it as far as I'm concerned. Also been a long time since they brought one home, so I like the Flyers.

I'm a big fan of the Chicago Blackhawks ice girls:

You know, because it's easy to settle for jugs when you haven't won a Cup in almost half a century.

Fuck Chicago.
