OT: Now that the world is ending How will you spend your time?

Submitted by Darker Blue on March 12th, 2020 at 1:05 PM

I'm thinking of heading to Nebraska, I keep dreaming of an old women playing guitar on her front porch. Surrounded by acres of corn

Or are you going to Vegas to hang out with the dark man?

Either way I'd like to know your plans

Giving online harp classes, so that when destiny finally calls, you will be directed to your designated cloud without having to go through boot camp  ;o)

Video games, lots of sex with the wife, netflix and working out at home. Besides that still have to go to work though. Though my boss is already inquiring to our IT department about what it would take to get us all set up at home, so that might change. Wife and I did have a vacation to a resort in the DR next month, but that is off, no way in hell we are risk getting quarantined in the DR.

Those that survive will probably be way healthier.  It has been a warm Spring.  I think I will just go outside and enjoy the outdoors.  Along with porn and video games.

I’m going to dress up in full football gear and run through my city’s downtown area diving through all the storefront plate glass display windows.

Just cancelled our spring break ski trip to Breckinridge, Co.  Both my family physician and my oncologist recommended not flying right now unless it's an emergency so I notified AirBnb (got half back), Southwest Airlines (got all back), Alamo RAC (got all back) and Epic Pass (got none back).

A very expensive non-vacation this year but better safe than sorry right?  Bummer.

You're not missing anything. I was at Park City last weekend. The snow was terrible. Ice in the morning, mashed potatoes by 1:30-2 due to 45-50 degree temps and sun. Some wet pow on Sunday that was almost completely tracked out by 11 AM (aside from the random tree line).

Not to mention crowded runs, lots of beginners/intermediates cutting you off, and some very long lift lines (Miner's Camp).  The scene on Main Street is a lot of fun though.

If we ever go back, it would need to be in January.

Yep, similar situation here, expensive vacation to a resort in the DR planned and we are going to have to cancel most likely. Don't think we will be able to enjoy ourselves if we have the possibility of being quarantined there if something happens. Not even sure my insurance would cover that. Stay is covered by trip insurance, but flights I was going to wait to call on because I wasn't sure they would do anything for me right now. Just a major bummer, we haven't been a real vacation since our honeymoon.

The wife and I decided to go ahead with our planned trip to Cabo.  Not much reporting of issues in Mexico, it’s hot here, we are staying at a small resort, and we’ll be outside most of the day with plenty of distance from people.  Also, medicinal drinking by the pool.  I guess we are the guinea pigs for “it goes away when the weather warms up”.

We did have to run the Corona gauntlet of Chicago O’Hare airport and 4 hours on a plane that was 95% full.  O’Hare was busy, down some travelers, but not by more than 20% using the eyeball test.  We did see a gate with maybe 10 people waiting to board a flight to LaGuardia.  Given events of the past 24 hours, I expect we’ll see even less people when we return next week.....maybe if we return next week? We might be taking a risk but  I can think of worse places to get stuck in.

Everyone should just sit inside and play XBox/Playstation for about 3 months.

My company should be sending us to work from home for a while.  Instead they have

1)  Suspended the fresh fruit deliveries to our lobby.
2)  Told us to use disposable cups instead of our thermoses
3)   Said that the weekly Wednesday lunch buffet will all be individually wrapped items.

I'm counting down the time till this whole office is sick.  Luckily we only have about 1 person over 60 here, so we should end up ok.

Since my extra curriculars usually involve thousands of people, hanging with just my wife will be a real change. In the last ten days - sold out Yo Yo Ma at Hill, senior night at Crisler, two dominate wins over Sparty at a Yost. Starting tonight I would have been singing four straight performances of Carmina Burana with the DSO in Detroit. So ....maybe hit the library on the way home tonight for some good reading, cook some fun meals, clean the garage/basement???

Yep cancelled...dress rehearsal last night almost cancelled at last minute , but four busses from A2 (one the Youth Chorale) so I think they said “the show must go on”,  at least for one last night. Sat in the first six rows of Orch. Hall and they played to us and we sang to them. Pretty cool actually.

Internet porn is still alive and well.

Speaking of that, where is Hatter?

A few weeks ago he said he was going on vacation to CA and a lot of it was paid for by a wealthy buddy of his.  Did that turn into a "The Hangover" in real life?

This all sucks. It’s serious but we’re treating this like the Spanish Flu. I guess better to be safe than sorry but this never happened for Swine Flu which had to be just as bad. That one infected upwards of 700 million people all the way up to 1.4 billion. Anyway everybody stay safe and praying the warmer weather beats this thing at least temporarily.

Actually, that is exactly what the scientific community is saying.  That the mortality rate is much lower that of SARS and H1N.  We didn't cripple our society for thise, and it is utterly inexcusable that we are doing so for this.  When the statistically challenged idiots in the media start trying to tell us lethality numbers based on a simple count of cases v. deaths, and that becomes gospel on the nightly broadcast, intelligence is doomed

JamieH

The H1N1 outbreak in 2009 had a mortality rate of 0.02%.  This has a mortality rate of 3%.  That's 150 times higher.

SARS in 2002 had a high mortality rate of 9.6%, but there were very few cases of it.   Only 8000 world wide.  COVID-19 is already at 128,000 cases.  That 16 times the cases and we are just getting started.

So, 150 times more deadly than H1N1 and many magnitudes more contagious than SARS.
