OT - NHL Lockout News/Bettman and NHLPA Hate Thread
Shitty titty fuckity fuck.
NHL rejects NHLPA's offer, no future talks planned.
So much "optimism" reported yesterday, only to have my balls stabbed with a soldering iron. I am not just angry at Bettman (actually less after seeing his passion in press conference linked below). I am ready to burn this mothafucka to the ground because bitches can't get their heads on straight.
I really wish college hockey made it to the regional level. I'm about to buy a passport so I can see some quality hockey in Canada. THIS IS AMERICA I SHOULDN'T WANT TO GO TO CANADA.
Bettman visibly angry and curb stomping reporters.
Mod edit: I took down the original title, mostly because it's getting late. OP, feel free to create a new title full of anger for Bettman/Fehr, but the sidebar should avoid titles that might be taken the wrong way if possible. JGB.

Fehr has lost seasons in multiple sports. It's like the unstoppable force meets the immovable object.
December 6th, 2012 at 10:06 PM ^
Lock Fehr in a room with Shanahan and let some "discipline" teach a fool how to bargain.
December 6th, 2012 at 10:31 PM ^
Fehr has been involved in one lockout/strike. Bettman has been involved in 3 and he hasn't been around nearly as long. Bill Simmons is right when he calls him the worst commissioner in sports.
December 7th, 2012 at 10:13 AM ^
Not fair on the counting, as this is Fehr's second and Bettman's third. Fehr's a prickly bastard, and Bettman's a doughy POS.
December 7th, 2012 at 11:49 AM ^
Fair point. It just boggles my mind how Bettman can be at the centre of this many labour stoppages and still be employed. Anyone think Goodell would survive 2 labour stoppages. I don't
December 7th, 2012 at 12:52 PM ^
It would boggle the mind, until you start to realize the owners like it this way. Bunch of rotten old bastards. Bettman sucks, Fehr sucks, the NHL is run by shitheads. I wish I was any good at staying the hell away, but I know I'll just go running back if and when they ever pull their shit together.

Gary Bettman makes Jim Delany look like an all-world commissioner.
December 6th, 2012 at 10:13 PM ^
My respect for Bettman went up a notch (to one notch) after watching the press conference. The NHLPA has been so obviously-pandering-to-sympathetic-fans it's mentally challenged retarded. Fehr really seems to be sacrificing the game and filling the players head's with $$$ just for his name. Drop the fucking puck already.
December 6th, 2012 at 10:35 PM ^
Seeing as Bettman got everything he wanted last time and it solved absolutely nothing its pretty hard to blame Fehr. They neglected to realize that teams would use long termc contracts to circumvent the cap, decreased the age needed for free agency, and put in a cap floor that was way to high.
December 7th, 2012 at 5:28 PM ^
Overall revenue has gone up and the game has gotten a lot better...but yes there is still blame to go towards him. But I guess we shouldn't give the Bettman any credit. He's the scapegoat hockey deserves.

What shitty teams were sponsoring this again? Remove them from the NHL and give us our hockey back. Fuck the Coyotes, and all the other warm weather teams where the fans don't even know what snow looks like for holding real hockey fans hostage.
December 6th, 2012 at 10:36 PM ^
The Boston Bruins are the team/ownership most responsible for this lockout followed by the Wild.
December 7th, 2012 at 12:04 AM ^
Cool. Now I know which teams to root against for the rest of my life. They're pissing on the rest of us.

that the game will just fade away. The NHL isn't that firmly rooted in today's culture that if it goes away for a year (or two) that it could ever come back. Analagous to those photos you see of the pistons' game at auburn hills, where they are attended by all 47 ticket holders.
December 6th, 2012 at 10:25 PM ^
It appears to me that the owners have taken the position that unless the players agree to ALL the owners terms there will be no season. This really isnt negotiating any more than a kidnapper threatening to kill its capture unless their ransom demands is met is "negotiating".
I have actually started to consider that the current owners actually HATE hockey so they formed a kabal and then all secretly bought teams in the hope of wiping the sport of the earth. If so they are doing a fantastic job of achieving their goal.

Needs to fucking hang. The NHL is a clusterfuck, strictly because of his efforts. Agree with a previous poster - cut to the chase and put Shanny in as commish.
I've hated Bettman since he first said "Steve Yzerman, come get the Stanley Cup". Smug piece of shit.
Stands to reason he was originally Stern's whipping boy - he's brought the same mindset to the league and is running into the ground equally parallel to Stern's efforts, minus the weed.
Three things - shrink the league. Lose Arizona, one of the Florida teams and either Nashville or Columbus. 2nd - let them fight 3rd - get Canada competitive. The league needs a Canadiens or Leafs cup so badly it hurts.
ok four. Kill Bettman
December 7th, 2012 at 3:40 AM ^
I wouldn't blame Bettman for thel atest break down.
Apparently the players were ready to take the deal, and Fehr told them to hold out longer for more. It's interesting to note that negotiations were going just fine and seemingly progressing well, then Fehr came back into the picture and everything went to hell once again.
December 7th, 2012 at 7:22 AM ^
They had basically agreed on money and Bettman refused to give an inch on contract lengths. The idea of negotiating isn't to make every offer a take it or leave it offer.

What does ankle bent mean?
Like sprained ankles?
December 6th, 2012 at 10:39 PM ^
ankle grabbing? the english language can really set your homophobia free, son.
December 6th, 2012 at 11:22 PM ^
Pretty sure OP used "ankle bent" to refer to someone who can't skate -- you know, the people that you see wobbling around the ice with their ankles bent inwards -- but I do appreciate the size of the leap to your conclusion.
December 6th, 2012 at 11:25 PM ^
Huh. I'd never heard that term before, so I just assumed it was similar to "butthurt". My apologies.
Maybe worth noting: if you Google "ankle bent", this thread is the first hit, and the only thing on Google's first page of results that can have the meaning you suggest.
December 6th, 2012 at 11:27 PM ^
Yeah, people usually use "ankle benders": http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ankle%20Bender
December 6th, 2012 at 11:45 PM ^
It wasn't a wholly unreasonable assumption given the "sissy boys" thrown into there. But that's an aside. Moar Bettman bashing.
December 6th, 2012 at 11:46 PM ^
Fair enough. Proceed with the Bettman bashing.

Chop - where in Utah do you live?
I live in SLC from 81-83 right after I graduated from Michigan up in the avenues on F street. Worked enough to pay for lift tickets and lived with my buddy who was getting his MBA from U of U. Nice place!
December 7th, 2012 at 12:36 AM ^
The avenues: nice place indeed! I live about half a mile from there, on 7th E. Just moved there this summer. I'm currently in the Mitten finishing up my studies (this time next week I'll be a free man!) and will be going back there to start work full-time in the coming months. I've really fallen in love with the city, and especially hiking in the mountains. I've never really done much skiing (raised in Michigan, no mountains), but that's one thing I'll definitely be trying in the near future.

Now I don't give a crap. Don't miss it in the least.
December 7th, 2012 at 12:28 AM ^
Sounds like the players were ready to take the deal until Fehr turned them back into his sock puppets.
The agents all have enough money to get throught this. Half of the owners were losing money, anyway, so they will actually profit by this. The only people who lose are the players and the fans.
I guess the players and fans don't matter much to agents and owners.
December 7th, 2012 at 7:26 AM ^
The thing is they aren't losing money. When you have teams like the Panthers say they are losing 7 million a year and then when they have to open their books up because the arena deal with the local government and find out they are making 10 million a year how can you trust them. They make their teams look like they are losing as much money as possible by shifting off hockey related revenue into other companies they own.
