OT: Mike Leach hospitalized with non-trivial condition
OT, but I think a number of us are fans of Mike Leach and his influence on CFB.
From [Miss State] beat writers - "I am told that Coach was successfully Air Lifted to Jackson on an Airbus Helicopter H145. There was a delay in getting airborne due to some weather, but they were able to find a window and got him down there safely.
From what I am told, the next few hours are critical. Coach has a long road ahead of him. The situation is very, very serious. If you are the praying type, Coach Leach, his family and the attending physicians could use your prayers. If you are not the praying type, then perhaps you can make an exception in these circumstances."

Speaking personally, I met Mike many years ago after his book Swing Your Sword was published. I was working in an indy bookstore at the time and Mike came through for a book signing. He was great with customers/fans, very approachable, kind, and funny. He was a bit more...open...with the staff. Extremely funny and smart dude.
And yes, I witnessed him inscribing more than a few books with "CJK5H" .

Dude taught both Lincoln Riley AND Sonny Dukes how to coach.

Who is Sonny Dukes?
December 11th, 2022 at 10:27 PM ^
A guy from the dive bar who tag teams your mother with me when she’s horny.

"A guy from the dive bar who tag teams your mother with me when she’s horny."
You really typed this in response to a question?
December 11th, 2022 at 11:36 PM ^
Oh come the fuck on folks....that's a funny reply to a petty, wannabe edgy "you did U instead of Y" post.
December 12th, 2022 at 7:07 AM ^
Nope. Taste aside, if scoring the humor I'd give it at most 1.5 / 10 if it came from a middle school Sparty.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:20 AM ^
Aren't they all middle school??
December 12th, 2022 at 8:23 AM ^
gross. don't.
December 11th, 2022 at 10:30 PM ^
If you don’t know now you’ll figure it out by New Year’s Eve
(He’s TCU’s coach)
December 11th, 2022 at 10:45 PM ^
They fired Dykes?
December 11th, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
I mean the U and Y keys are right next to each other guys.
December 11th, 2022 at 11:59 PM ^
And your mom is right next to DrZ1111 - am I doing this correctly?!
December 12th, 2022 at 9:32 AM ^
No its a Michigan blog so you have to say that Sonny Dukes is the man from the country club who brought his mother to the heights of ecstasy after an evening of fine vosne-romanee and farm-to-glass table distilled cocoa leaf extract.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
Wow, some people just don't know when to take their loss and go home.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:55 AM ^
like your mother at closing time, when she still hasn't found a man for the night.
December 12th, 2022 at 11:07 AM ^
Enough, please. You're over the line. The mods may be too busy to communicate with you but you really need to put the keyboard or the phone down and reconsider what you're typing on a UM sports blog. Elevate your standards, please. Thanks.
December 12th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
You may have to read a mom joke on the internet from time to time. If you're looking for elevated standards on internet blog and comment sections I have some rough news for you. I hope you'll be alright.
December 12th, 2022 at 1:39 PM ^
Yep, I get that. I put on my big boy pants every day. The only guy that seems really to need some hugs is the guy who is losing his scheiss about a simple spelling error.
December 12th, 2022 at 12:19 AM ^
Either Randolph or Mortimer’s Grandson. You’ll have to ask Clarence Beeks to be sure. I see him kicking around the board from time to time.
Get Well, Coach Leach. There are too few in your profession with your forthright opinions.

Excellent reference from 1983. I was about to do the same. User name checks out.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
sounds very serious, like stroke type of serious. from the ESPN article:
"Leach, in his third season as Mississippi State's coach, told ESPN after the regular season concluded that he struggled with pneumonia during the season but that he was feeling better."

My initial guess was massive heart attack, but it's just that: a WILD, SPECULATIVE GUESS.
Either way, it doesn't sound good at all.
(Edited by me to emphasize that this is a baseless guess)
December 11th, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
The current preponderance of online speculation is also heart attack, but of course, no one has heard anything for certain at this point, at least not to my knowledge (and I - like most of us - shall certainly be the last to know).
December 11th, 2022 at 10:58 PM ^
this does sound like when my dad had a heart attack. he was in canada near lake of the woods and then airlifted him to mayo clinic. he was able to pull through, hope Coach Leach can as well.
December 12th, 2022 at 8:50 AM ^
Yep. My mom was air lifted to Toledo from a small town hospital. By the time we made the 45 minute drive the chaplain was waiting on us. Prayers for coach and his family.
December 12th, 2022 at 12:08 AM ^
Either heart attack or stroke and no nearby specialty center (catheterization, etc…). Maybe PE I guess but it’s a short list for differential diagnosis.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
Sending out prayers and well wishes, I hate to hear this kind of news.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:34 PM ^
Did not have a comfortable feeling after reading initial reports.
Mike Leach is an “outside of the box” kind of coach who is brilliant. His teams quickly improve and remain competitive. Many of his interviews are legendary. He adds interest and fun to college football.
May the heavens guide his physicians and nurses as they work to stabilize his condition, while also providing optimism and comfort to his family.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:42 PM ^
Terrible news. Hoping he pulls through and makes a full recovery.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
sad news. I always thought Leach was a really good coach; a really good offensive mind.
Hopefully he pulls through.
December 11th, 2022 at 10:59 PM ^
Without a doubt one of the great minds of college football, and he's also got a JD from Pepperdine for extra measure. We need minds like his in this sport and throughout life.
Hoping that he pulls through.
December 11th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
Best of luck to Coach Leach. Sending good thoughts
December 11th, 2022 at 9:54 PM ^
Fuck, we already lost Calvin Magee this year...losing two great contributing coaches to this sport in a year would just really suck (edit, three coaches -- I forgot Greg Robinson :( )
Pull through, Coach Leach. ❤️
December 11th, 2022 at 11:39 PM ^
McGee was a great offensive mind. Hard to believe that just 12 years later our two coordinators from RRs last UM team in 2010 have passed on (GERG and Calvin).
Folks, enjoy life while you have the chance! NOTHING is more important than your family.
Go Blue!
December 11th, 2022 at 10:00 PM ^
Some on the Twitterverse are saying he passed.
Not sure if it’s an actual rumor or a tremendous pun, but hope he pulls through.
December 11th, 2022 at 10:04 PM ^
Sports aside, I believe he’s a father, and with Christmas approaching I feel terrible for his family! Praying he pulls through and thinking of the Doctors, nurses and support staff!
December 12th, 2022 at 1:40 AM ^
Amen on feeling terrible for his family - my own father died on the same day (December 11th), several years ago.
I pray his family does not have to go through the same and send prayers to all who are connected with Mike Leach.
We only get so many trips around the sun. Cherish each that you and your loved ones get.

This sucks, college athletics need more guys like Mike Leach.
December 11th, 2022 at 10:33 PM ^
Damn, this isn’t good to hear at all. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
December 11th, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
I wonder if that RB who took some pretty strong shots at Leach last week on his way to the portal feels a little bad now.
I have loved watching Leach’s teams. He has turned random Midwest undersized, and not incredibly strong-armed kids into NCAA record holders. Turned Tex Tech and Washington St into competitive programs; two programs who doormats prior to his arrival. And of course, his interviews have been a national treasure. Praying for a full recovery

That's your first move in this situation? It seems unnecessary.
December 12th, 2022 at 12:43 PM ^
Why bring up the kid who wanted transfer out? That has nothing to do with this situation.
December 11th, 2022 at 10:43 PM ^
Wish him a safe recovery. Sounds really scary for all involved. Best wishes to his family and the Miss. St. community.
December 11th, 2022 at 10:50 PM ^
As part of the Mississippi State community, thank you. No updates here in Starkville.
December 12th, 2022 at 2:27 PM ^
The last updates look really bad.

Don't know what to make of this, but people close to him are talking pretty seriously:
