... bitches, context.
I assume this is the jeapordy guy.
Sometimes I forget the whole world doesn't share my obsessions.
Isnt that the guy who people were getting upset with because he didn't follow the unspoken rules of Jeopardy?
yes.
rather than take each category in order from least valuable question to most like most contestants do, he hunted for daily doubles, which typically are in the bottom two rows.
I believe I read that he didn't follow the 'normal' order for going through categories. Usually someone does "Favorite Michigan coaches for $200...$400....$600" etc but this guy apparently bounced everywhere to keep his opponents off their game while he went searching for daily doubles.
After reading the article, I likened it to someone being upset for not having the proper dress code on the golf course. He didn't do anything wrong, but Jeopardy Men got offended because it was against the great tradition
that his actions were strategic. It would be more like wearing a bright reflecty shirt and subtly blinding your opponent.

He basically applied the same game theory processes other contestants have used. Sadly, there was a sense that part of the backlash was because he was Asian as much as because he "broke" some unwritten rules of decorum.

It's not because he's Asian. As an Asian myself, I kind of cringe when he and others have suggested this. The dude is a generally unlikeable guy. He comes off as cocky, arrogant and a total spaz. The way he mashes the answer button repeatedly, argues with Trebek about answers, cuts him off before he's done prompting for the next question, etc, etc... the guy's mannerisms are just annoying plain and simple. The guy is definitely smart and his strategy paid off for him, but he's easy to root against.
I've watched a lot of Jeopardy (of course since I'm 55) and he is definitely one of the most annoying contestants I've seen. Happy trails Arthur.
anything like running the ball where there aren't any defenders?
Conventionally, at final Jeopardy people will wager to guarantee (as much as is possible) to win by at least $1. However, he would also set his final wager such that he would tie, meaning both he and this other person would return. The theory is he already outperformed them once - small sample size, but more than the 0 samples he has of an unknown new contestant. It could also get into their head or engender positive feelings - maybe they return the favor if they come out on top.
Arthur has said that his "bet to tie" wagers had less to do with bringing back someone he'd already played against and more to do with increasing his own chances of returning. Usually the way his wagering worked out, he would win unless the #2 player wagered everything and got it right (which only happened once and caused the tie).

He made the game really hard to follow when I'm high.
Why'd he piss people off?
I don't understand why. Because he actually applied strategy to the game?
Honestly, if it were the boy next door I don't think there'd be as much vitriol. But he is an aggressive Asian dude.
LOL I did some googling around and came across an article where a commentator likened him to the likely Chinese invasion and as a reason why we're going to be obliterated when the Chinese invade.
Part of me laughed but also part of me was sad because of this dude was serious, he is able to vote.
Well, that and kind of a tool. Probably has more to do with the latter.
Spoiler alert!
C'mon man!
I was just sitting down to watch it.
Also, I don't think it's a Michigan grad student. Everything I've read thus far has called her a grad student in Ann Arbor. AnnArbor.com didn't specify Michigan, so I'm assuming not Michigan.
Cleary? Concordia? Could be Eastern I guess
It seemed strange that they talked about Ann Arbor but not Michigan, so I looked her up in the directory. She IS at U-M.
You beat me to it!
I thought she said she went to William and Mary, but lives in Ann Arbor. I don't think she went to Michigan.

I hope she isn't perfidious as that would make William and Mary quite angry.
Sarah did go to Albion. Diana, tonight's winner, went to William & Mary.
I didn't realize that they were talking about someone else.
Diana Peloquin is a U of M Law student. I belive that is the young lady in question, but I can't swear that it is her.
Sarah McNitt, a Michigan alumna (Master's degree in Information), won five games in January of this year (Ann Arbor News link). She actually has an MGoBlog account but has only used it once.
Thrice.
Only five and a half years between your first and second posts too!
Depends which "her" you're talking about. Mine was HCI.

If you ever return for some kind of Jeopardy Champions thing, I would request that you wear an MGoStore
How has no one yet noted that Arthur Chu lives in Ohio?

I was just gonna add this too. BEATOHIO
It can't be said too much.
What, no POS-bang thread?
