OT Mgo blogger thoughts on Tyson -Jones fight

Submitted by dgloader1963 on November 27th, 2020 at 3:35 AM

Fellow Mgo bloggers who know way more than me is Tyson gonna destroy Jones or will Jones be able to outbox him? It seems like a fascinating match up but I dont know much about the format. Please expound.

Exactly. When you are talking about boxing and Tyson in 2020, it clearly means the current WBC world heavyweight champion and not an old retired guy. Weird not to call him Fury, though, but that's OP's problem.

Jones is a closer call but there's still only one of them that didn't retire years ago.

I will eat crow since I have now googled it and seen that this was first announced back in July. That didn't make front page international news and I didn't see it here, so I didn't know about it. My bad.

I haven't paid much attention to this because my impression was that it was an exhibition. They are both in their 50's and it's only 3 or 4 rounds so does it really matter. Maybe one of them will get Covid and it will get canceled.

Edit: is canceled with 1 L or 2? Cancelled.

It is an exhibition.  They will be wearing headgear.  You can't place a bet on it (legally).  Who in their right mind, would pay money to watch this?  People pay money to watch pro wrestling though, so what the hell do I know?

Used to be a huge boxing fan before Tyson chewed up Holifield's ear & was allowed to continue.  Stopped caring about any of it pretty much immediately.

Just an FYI... Joe Rogan had both men on his podcast talking about the upcoming fight... neither one seemed like they were taking it as an “exhibition” fight.. I don’t think they have it in their DNA. While they may be wearing headgear, I fully expect they’ll both be going 100%... it has the makings of an interesting fight.

I’m just going to wait a week and watch it free.

Friendly wager that Mike Tyson doesn't look like he's "going through the motions" after "selling the fight". The guy has a Michael Jordan mentality... he's win at all costs... ask Evander Holyfield's ear. If Mike mails it in... I owe you a night at the bar.. post Covid of course.

Also... as I said, I'm not paying for it. It'll be free in a week or so.

Terence Crawford & Errol Spence are 2 undefeated virtuosos. If they ever fight, it’ll be like watching Tyson v. Ali in their primes. Downside of boxing is best fights sometimes don’t get made or happen with over the Hill boxers. Spence is lucky to be alive after Drunk rolling his Ferrari multiple times following a big win.

I know next to nothing about boxing, but Mike Tyson still strikes me as being among one of the last men on the planet I’d either want to get on the bad side of or meet in a dark alleyway. That video he put out a while back of him training made him look like he was still very much in good shape and could just knock anyone straight into next month with one clean hit.

I’m not willing to pay to watch that match live, but I’ll be interested to find out the next day how it went, because it’s Mike Tyson.

Barring either guy having a freakout, it's gonna be 8 two minute rounds that essentially is gonna be a light spar. So unless Tyson decides to go vintage killer tyson, it'll probably be fairly uneventful and only worth watching for extreme nostalgia purposes.

I know Roy Jones Jr said he still thinks Tyson will try to knock him out anyway, but the no knockout rule with headgear and no judges ruined the whole thing for me. I probably wasn’t gonna pay for it anyway, but I do have a friend that has us over for a lot of ufc PPVs so I originally planned on watching it with him. Probably better I don’t watch it with him with covid raging, but idk why they bothered with this “fight.” I’m interested to see how much money they make off this fight.

This is going to be trash and another 'why did i fucking buy this shit' event.

If this were a boxing match with standard rules, Tyson would fucking beat the living shit out of Jones.  It would be quick.

This is an exhibition and Tyson is now a nice guy with no killer instinct.  This is going to be horrible.

I am one of the biggest boxing fans and proponents left for boxing > UFC.  This will do NOTHING to help the sport.

** addition **

IF you do want to watch real boxing, watch any Terence Crawford fight.  He is extremely skilled, smart and has knockout power. Easily the best boxer in the world (pound for pound).

There is a young kid (i think 22 ish) that is taking the boxing world by storm and is setup to become the future pound for pound king - Teofimo Lopez.  Stunning already.  Looks to be an 'undefeated for a decade' guy facing tough competition.  Can take a punch and has big power (with skill).

Speaking of Mike Tyson, there is a very young heavyweight that is set to take the division by storm.  He is about 22 and from the UK - Daniel Dubois.6'5" with 78" reach  He is at minimum fun to watch.  Although he does not fight with the style of tyson (peek-a-boo, quick inside, ducking upercuts) he is extremely active and trades with crisp power punches.  The problem with him is that he will eventually get caught.  But he is going to rack up some KO's, and since his style is so fun to watch, he will be 30-2 with 28 KO's, yet make 3 times more money than the guy who is 32-0 with 16 ko's. (just like Tyson).  Youtube his haymaker fight with Richard Lartey.
