OT - Married the right woman

Submitted by bamf_16 on October 7th, 2019 at 11:53 AM

Was going to put this as a diary, but the rules say off topic should be on the message board, so here goes.

Mrs. and I welcomed our first little Michigan fan into the world last week after a lengthy and painful (for her) process. Knowing we'd spend the better part of a week in a hospital, I prepared myself to watch the game bedside and cheer silently so as to be as courteous as possible to all present.

Iowa's first play from scrimmage, I choked back screaming something at the TV only to hear a booming voice from the bed next to me, "Ball!" followed by a clutch of the midsection where a pretty nice scar will soon be.

A bit later, after a feeding, Grandma is sitting on a chair burping the little guy and facing away from the television (father in law it seems did NOT marry the right woman!) and Nate Stanley is evidently standing in the pocket for too long a period of time.

Screaming voice from the bed, "Hit him!"

I'm sure we can all imagine in that instant what my mother in law thought the wife meant.

I and others may deem it appropriate to put the blame for the impotent offense on the shoulders of Shea Patterson; I sincerely hope it has nothing to do with bamf_17.

Congrats on the baby!

But where the hell do you live that they'll let your wife stay in the hospital for that long?  Mrs. Hatter had a c-section for our last kid and they were pushing her out the door 36 hours later.

Staying in the hospital is actually pretty dangerous if you don't absolutely *have* to be there. Infections are pretty common, not to mention the massive bill that they're going to settle on you (the administration loves to charge you, the doctors like getting paid a lot but don't think about that it's coming from your pocket, and the nurses are actually pretty concerned about you as a patient and a person)

If they live in the U.S. I would assume there were some complications that required a longer hospital stay.  If not with mom, maybe with baby.  I know I got a little extra time after things went a little sideways, and our wee one stayed a week  (we are both fine now, except for the health problems associated with being a Michigan fan lately)

Welcome, bamf_17! What a great coming out party, so to speak, to experience the Iowa game.

You're probably a little young to appreciate ALL the nuances of the game but a little while on MGoBlog — and some chastisement for being too far off topic or using the wrong font — and you'll be good to go.

Remember, honor thy father and mother, and you'll be fine.

Congratulations!

There was a family sitting behind me with a couple of young kids, including an infant.  The parents were doing their best, but the infant was being fussy.  She happened to cry out after Michigan's touchdown, at which point I turned to them and said, "your daughter is a true Michigan fan.  We're up 10-0 and she's cranky." :)

Outstanding! Congratulations!

The fact the game was on in the hospital shows you have your priorities straight. Great foundation for your new family!

God bless you.  I get into at least one fight every year because my fiancee is mad that I want to watch the UM game every Saturday, which often means I miss some fair, apple picking, or other less cool thing than watching football.

he who finds a wife finds a good thing and finds favor with the Lord

like arrows in the hand of the mighty warrior, so are the children of one's youth.  happy is the man whose quiver is full, he shall not be afraid, but shall speak with the enemy at the gate.

congrats!

Congrats! Our first baby was born about the time Wisconson was scoring their first TD, needless to say I didn't watch that game at all, and really haven't read anything about it.

As I’m sitting in a hospital room, 5 hours into the delivery of my second daughter, congrats. Kids are a wonderful, life changing addition to your life. There is nothing like being a parent.

Also, Go Blue!

There is nothing like getting no sleep for three years, incessant crying and diapers, poop and boogers, and tiny tyrants who completely rule over your life for years?

Sounds awesome.

But if you mean "There is nothing like parenting when you can afford nannies or other assorted family help" then OK.

Man, no kidding, Xtra.  I have a now 7 and 4 year old that fight all the time, and it sure is annoying at times, but vastly dwarfed by their fun personalities, love and humor, among various other things - that despite how bad of a day I've had they always find a way to make me smile.

avatar most definitely not checking out!

kidding aside, train them up in the way that they should go, and when they get old they will not depart from it.  if you put the time in early in their lives it will pay dividends and you and mrs woodson will be the primary benefactors.

Congrats and welcome to fatherhood!

My daughter was born on Sep 30, 2005. The next day, I held her as Michigan survived msu in overtime. Welcome to the world! Her favorite piece of clothing now is her Michigan volleyball hoodie :)

When I read those "WifeDay" posts on our bye weeks, I cringe. Sure, I like shopping, but not with my husband in tow. This is wisdom for the younger generations: women who like sports are out there. Take the time to find one. And congrats on the baby! Another Michigan fan is welcomed into the world.

Congrats on the great wife and baby! I too have married an amazing woman who has embraced my love for Michigan way more than I ever could've anticipated. Someday, I will share a few details on this board - it's pretty incredible actually.

Oddly, we started dating in 2008. Two things happened that year, Michigan got a new Football coach and that was the last time the Wings won the Cup. Hockey and College Football are the only two sports I watch. At times, I feel like the Sports Gods are trying to tell me to spend more time with my wife...

BTW - my wife is so supportive, I was going to have a miniature "Go Blue M Club Supports You" banner waiting for my little baby to 'pop' out and touch right after the doctor delivered him. I cannot tell you what a bad idea that would've been! We waiting hours before the little guy decided to come out and when he did, I was not expecting everything else that came with him. Wow. Not making that banner was one of the best decisions I've ever made. For some reason, it seemed like such a good idea at one point though.
