Huh? Exit does come before entrance right now. If they changed it to a true cloverleaf, then the exit would come after entrance of the opposite direction and would force the zipper merge you're complaining about. Also, a cloverleaf would not only be overkill for that interchange (they're reserved for major artery to major artery exchanges), but there's a river and houses that would make it impossible in that location. Edit, ok, I think I know what you mean now. You're talking about the close proximity of the main street exit to the barton on ramp. The post I responded to and my post were referring to the barton on/off ramp on the other side where there's a stop sign at the end of the on ramp. There's even less they can do about the main street exit short of closing the barton on ramp.

It's absolutely crazy to me that MDOT just closes entire expressways for months.  There are ways to completely rebuild large, complex roadways while avoiding total closure.

They're building this interchange (below) over and through 2 major expressways in the Dallas metro area (7 million people) and the most intrusive closure so far has been a one-time closure from 10pm Friday to 4am Monday.

When it's done, it will look a lot like the awesomely absurd "High Five" interchange also in Dallas (below).

I am such an infrastructure nerd.

now, working in downtown Detroit and commuting from the northern suburbs is serious enough to ruin a life.  The are taking to modernizing the entire I-75 corridor while essentially closing Woodward Ave. while constucting the M-1 rail downtown.  I have never seen Michigan roads or any roads in as much of a bind as they are in right now.

As a former out-of-towner, I can tell you it's surprisingly and awesomely simple.  Every origin get's a high-speed ramp to every destination.

All lanes/routes are clearly signed ahead of time with ample time to react and you only slow to 60MPH (traffic permitting) except for the few surface streets at the bottom.

To your point though, the 43-ramp, 140ft-tall, 5-level interchange is certainly a foreboding monstrosity.

but I'm happy for those who have been effed by this.  Many of you have probably been effed by the I-275 thing as well.  It's a gang-bang kind of summer.

Ok, definetly thought this meant we were opening as 14 point favorites Hawaii, which would have been a lot worse than this news.

Do we have a line against Hawaii yet? I would guess something like 32.5.

Is there any way to get to the stadium from Detroit without driving?

Gonna be in Detroit next month & thinking about going to a game, but renting a car for a day to drive there would just be ridiculous (as would be borrowing someone's car to go.)

So, I see the thread "M-14 is open" and I think man, that seems kinda low.  Let the traffic flow freely indeed!

...

...

I thought this was the opening line for the M v Hawaii game.  And yes, the betting "traffic" would flow quite freely at that line!

Took until I got to the 5th or 6th comment down until I realized this topic was about a road.

That I-75 won't be ready for 14 years. They fixed that five or six mile stretch on 96 in about 7 months. I don't care how extensive a project is, nothing should take 14 flipping years.

Also pretty peeved at the people who voted on the 275 construction. They voted to keep one side open while working on the other. Just shut the mother down all at once and get it done.

I just went through there on my way home from the western reaches of the state - you will experience the odd residual backup from one accident west of Ann Arbor and all the excited people finally able to use the damn freeway, of course. Did shave about 20 minutes off the drive though. I wouldn't complain about that.

You sure it's open? It was supposed to be closed until November. It took 2 years to complete a mile stretch of Jackson rd. I can't imagine they repaved m14 east and west bound in less than 4 months.
