OT -- Joy and Happiness

Submitted by Enjoy Life on
It's 12:06 PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. My wife and I just popped the cork on some bubbly. I can honestly say I have never been happier or more joyful in my entire life.

It's 12:18 on Tuesday Jan 20, 2009. I'm sitting at work not-quite-busting my ass and so is my wife, and wondering just what the hell it is this guy does for a living that he's at home guzzlin' champagne with the mrs.???

I used to have a good job as a project management consultant. But along with 2 million others (and counting) I am not currently working. Actually, I'm probably one of the fortunate ones. Social Security kicks in next month, I have a small pension from EDS, and I will probably get some work later this year.

Obama used one of his bball moves and boxed Bush out in order to score Bush's coke. The hype over this "politician" is quite amazing. I hope these people savior the kook aid they are drinking because reality is going be a hard kick in their head after they come down from their superficial high.

> John Kass of the Chicago Tribune calls the phenomenon "Hopium". I mean, I wish Obama all the luck in the world, but no politician is the second coming and the media just seems to always be there to toot the horn of what is an incredibly well-run marketing machine.

Whether is BO or GR you are referring to, they each have difficult tasks ahead of them. Good luck to both. I seriously hope each succeeds brilliantly.

Who really cares? It was nice, he went up said some pretty things and by this time tomorrow it will be over and aside from a different face on the news every night nothing changes. Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama... my life's never changed.

I have several problems with this. 1. We don't support free and open elections in the first place 2. The Democrats are hardly communist. 3. None of us are citizens of the United States 4. He hasn't added a sickle to the flag 5. He's no Brezhnev

i have no comment on the appropriateness of the thread in this forum. However those who think this event hasn't changed anything couldn't be more wrong. The Presidential oath and the duties tomorrow are the same, but the relationships and interactions among those from different walks of life really are changed forever. Living in a metropolitan area, at least, the change in optimism and brotherhood is palpable. Anyway, just my .02. maybe we all should get back to work.

If you think relationships have changed because of the symbolism of a black president being sworn in then please go move to the hood and see just how welcomed you are (assuming you are white). Racial dynamics are more complex and aren't easily fixed by an election. If that was the case, we would have already fixed the problems we still face. To confuse this event with the healing of any type of problems we have is to completely not understand human nature.

is exhibit A of the cynicism i meant. never did i say we were healed from this one election nor did i make a declarative statement about human nature. but to say that NOTHING has changed from one of the most historic events is to essentially call it unimportant. Which in my opinion is pretty short sighted. only history can judge... on a side note, its easy to make assumptions about another poster's race, location, and life experiences online but Its probably not a good idea. Things like that are a major reason i never post on here.

there is cynicism because there has been outlandish hype over the election of a very inexperienced man. Judge not by the color of one's skin by the content of one's character has been disproven by this election. Obama was elected because, as Joe Biden eloquently said, "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man." http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=2838420 Stand up for Joe!

you right, and I like your cynicism. you can't just wear rose colored glasses and start pumping your chest because of this inauguration. because in truth, not many people will get affected. I consider myself lucky, but many people not gonna feel a thing.

we arent talking about the inaguration in a vacuum here... the change i'm talking about is not in a link or in a newspaper...i'm talking about interactions among people. thats just something you have to experience. from my own eyes, i think people are experiencing it already. i say it changes things, you say it doesnt. like i said, history will be the judge i'll let you have the last word on it.

I'd rather be swept into the "7th Circle of Hell" while frantically swimming against the current than hopping in a barrel and happily proclaiming "I'm the decider!" while riding that b*tch over the falls

8 years ago I was 28 and working full-time at a job I hated. Without the government's help I'm much better off than I was then because I took the initiative and didn't bitch and whine about a job I lost because government restrictions forced the owners to move the jobs oversees to continue making money in order to maintain their lifestyle. This is America! Fix yourself and quit yer' bitchin'!

They love the fact that Obama is president. Just look how the DOW and NASDAQ and all the Foreign exchanges are up (closed up)on this historic event! Good times ahead, ya all!

Enjoy Life, you are one stupid shit man. "I can honestly say I have never been happier or more joyful in my entire life." Obama must be happy that he brings more joy to you than your wedding, unless your marriage sucks...then well...ok Personally, coming from South side Chicago, I think Obama will do great. I campaigned for him when he was running for Senate, and will not forget the promise of intense affirmative action programs and redistribution he made to the people in southside. Our neighborhoods are finally gonna have the chance to climb up. As a black man, I like him. But more so it's cuz his social policies are gonna benefit me and my family.
