OT: Jaguars selling $12.5K poolside cabana seating at Everbank Field

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

What happened to just going to the game and watching the game without all this other extra stuff? This is rather dumb.

You can put your HDTV by your own, private pool in Florida and not have to pay five figures per game.

I'd say in the north endzone way up at the top. Since we're hemorrhaging students, we can afford to sacrifice some seats to accommodate the pool.

$12.5K? You saved your fingers one digit rather than just typing "$12,500." Does the "k" make it seem like more money?

I really don't mean to be a smartass. I just don't understand.

I regularly am proud to associate with people who say "don't" in casual conversation. People can and do say "don't" in normal contexts without sounding strained, off-putting or pretentious.

If I meet a person at a bar who says "12.5K" in the middle of a normal conversation, I will likely choose not to associate with such person in the future. That is my bias.

BTW: My point was more aimed at the original article for using such an artificial structure than at the OP, who merely repeated the phrase.

It is just like this one guy who I hang out with who says, "Bee-Tee-Double-You" when we talk.  I bet he writes "BTW" all the time as well.  I swear ... these people.

...and while we're talking about the original article, did you see the part in the body of the article when he wrote:

One section of those cabanas (which you can see above and in bigger form here) are selling for $12,500 per game. Well, technically they're selling for $250 a seat (which includes all you can eat and drink and a ticket for the game) and each cabana hosts 50 people. With four cabanas available, that's a pretty nice little chunk of income ($50,000) for the Jaguars from a pretty awesome little private party they'll host eight times a year.

This writer is just all over the map. There's ... er ... there is no way I'd ... er ...I would ever associate with this Will Brinson character.

My first game there I was blocked by a pole. But I was also down the right-field line where seats face(d?) away from most of the action, except for fly balls to the outfield. So I couldn't see and I hurt my neck.

(I know. Cool story, bro.)

It is also $12,500 for the entire cabana which hold 50 people.  So $250 per person for all you can eat and drink to watch a game poolside doesn't seem that outrageous.

You can pretty much get every CFB game you want when you factor in that there are games on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, CBSSN, BTN, NBCSN, FS1, FSN throughout the day.

"The Jaguars also added "Kickoff Club Tables," which are PRIVATE, four-person tables you can purchase at $350 a seat, including premium parking and all you can eat/drink. 21 tables on the West Club section and 19 tables on the East Club section are available, all between the 20's."

That's actually a rather neat idea as well, in my opinion, to have tableside seating somewhere within the stands like this. I could see that being relatively popular for entertaining clients or something of that nature if a company didn't have a suite, or for folks who don't mind paying for their own little corner with a decent view. The only rub might be that the view is a Jaguars game.

Anyone attend sporting events for the game itself anymore? Recently sitting at a Tigers game I didn't hear one conversation around me about the game. No one was paying attention. I guess that I want to see what I came to pay for.

Call me an old, out of touch grump pants. I hate what all sporting events are becoming: wow factors and a place just to hang out.

...isn't "hanging out" pretty old school in itself?  That actually implies being engaged in the context.

These days it's all all about tossing up a façade via a twitter selfie about how cool & rich you are for being at the big game while all the losers are reduced to following at home.

Sigh...when I think about the evolution of sports over the past 8 years, I almost wish that I died at the same time that Bo did.  It's almost like he could see the future...and knew it was time.

THIS.

I cannot stand when people I go to games with bring their phones in (unless it's only to call to meet up after the game). You don't need to send text messages, tweet or post "selfies", ESPECIALLY during the game. No one cares what your thoughts are on the game while you're at the stadium unless your name is Brian or Ace.

You paid to go to the game. Watch the game. Do all that extra crap at home.

This is coming from an 18 year old who is disgusted at how attached this generation is to their cell phones. Luckily, I still have control of my brain/life and can turn the phone off the whole day and enjoy the game and tailgate.

enough to pay 12 grand to sit by a damn pool and watch a game on TV played in a stadium sitting right behind them.

Let them.  They deserve to be parted with their money

Gears are just spinning with ideas for the future Papa John's Field at PNC Stadium, AKA The Google House!

All these negative comments. Some people go for the game, some go for the overall experience and you're not paying $12k per person. You bitch about the money because it's a lot to you but some people making triple your salary it's not that much. If the Jags weren't selling the seats anyways who cares if they want to be innovative and find other ways to sell tickets.
