If DAT's time was 4.5 officially, it looks like Clowney's official time will be in the 4.5s. That's still impressive.
February 24th, 2014 at 10:40 AM ^
Pretty fast. Although, his bench press reps were less than impressive, 33rd best or in that range.
February 24th, 2014 at 10:47 AM ^
To put that in perspective, Miami punter Pat O'Donnell had 23 reps this year.
beat to the punch!

If Clowney could catch, Id put him at wr or te, especially in the redzone.
February 24th, 2014 at 11:47 AM ^
He may run the 40 in 4.47 seconds, but doesn't have drive alot faster than that?!

...the guy is undeniably a freak athlete. But it doesn't mean much if he doesn't show some effort and heart on the playing field, as SC fans saw in the early part of the season this year. Maybe a few million dollars will give him the spark he needs to be as dominant in the sport as his skillset suggests he has the potential to do. Speaking of which, to a lesser extent, his athleticism and potential in comparison to his actual lackluster production somewhat reminds me of someone currently on the Michigan basketball team this year...

There's no need to take a shot at Spike Albrecht like that.

They need to have recovery speed if they get beat.

I know I'm talking about the Lions here.......but can you imagine what it would be like if somehow Detroit drafted Clowney???? Clowney, Fairley, Suh, and Ansah.......holy crap that would be a terrifyingly sick pass rush.

Almost everyone I know whose name is Jadeveon Clowney is fast, so this is not news to me.
February 24th, 2014 at 1:46 PM ^
Clowney is going to be a great pro. I couldn't stand the criticism he got this year for his "motivational problems." Would you be motivated if you had just proven you were too good for your current level of play and then had to spend an extra year doing it at severe risk of injury with NO pay? Yeah, I wouldn't either.
February 24th, 2014 at 2:56 PM ^
Plus, I thought Michigan's OL pretty much dominated him and I saw little reason to believe he will be a good player.
February 24th, 2014 at 4:30 PM ^
They did not dominate him. Watch the tape - Gardner rolled away from his side of the field on almost every passing play. The coaches were obviously very concerned about his presence.

I think its hilarious that he was just barely slower than Deanthony Thomas. Especially after hearing for 3 years how fast and explosive DAT was whenever there was an Oregon game on. Apparently DAT isn't even as fast as one Jeremy Gallon.
February 24th, 2014 at 2:40 PM ^
I think it's hilarious that you think his 40 time matters.
Here's what matters: 243 career carries, 1890 yards, 7.8 yards/carry, 26 touchdowns. 113 career receptions, 1296 yards, 11.5 yards/catch, 15 touchdowns. 73 kickoff returns, 1885 yards, 25.9 yards/return, 4 touchdowns. 35-5 record.
But yeah, he only ran a 4.5 forty. Joke's on him, I guess.
February 24th, 2014 at 2:58 PM ^
Watching Thomas roast people for the past few years has cemented the grain of salt that needs to be taken with 40 times, at least in my mind.

Wow, someone put up gaudy numbers in Oregon's offense? Thats hard to believe. Lots of players have amazing stats in college and go on to do jack shit in the NFL. I'm well aware of what he did in college, i was just commenting on how i had to listen to commentator after commentator go on and on about how lightning fast he was every time they were on tv. So yes, i find it funny that he ran a slower OFFICIAL time than Gallon. Maybe he had an off day. Who knows.
February 25th, 2014 at 9:41 AM ^
Yes...and his lightning fast-ness helped him score lots of touchdowns and gain lots of yards. I don't get what's so funny. Are you saying it's funny that people said he's fast but really he's not fast? Are you saying that anybody in Oregon's offense can put up those numbers, regardless of whether they run a 4.5 or a 4.8?
Honestly, I doubt there are many unbiased football watchers who would take Gallon over De'Anthony Thomas. I just don't know what there is to laugh about.
February 24th, 2014 at 3:31 PM ^
than Gallon at 4.33. Somehow, the official time went up .2 seconds which is interesting. DAT ran 10.1 in 100m in HS and that is blazing fast to put into perspective.
February 25th, 2014 at 8:32 AM ^
The "unofficial" times they announce are hand timed by someone from the NFL. The "official" times are the actual electronic timing data. Just goes to show why hand timed 40's are worthless.
If you're fast you're fast, but 100 meter dash is more sprinting mechanics at the top end of the run than the first 40 yards. Also the clock starts when the gun goes off, not when they start to move.
February 25th, 2014 at 5:44 PM ^
What percentage of Clowney's contract will he owe to:
1: the 40 time
2: Vincent Smith
3: Lewan and the TE blocking on that play
