OT: It's Friday! What are drinking?

Submitted by SanDiegoWolverine on May 21st, 2021 at 6:20 PM

To celebrate one of the most civil weeks on the board in awhile what are y'all drinking? Also, what sporting events are you looking forward to this weekend, if any? How's the weather where you are? May can be quite nice all over our beautiful country.

I left work (home) early today to catch a Pure Project / Great Notion collaboration called "Strangest of Places." Two of my favorite IPA breweries but hasn't quite met my expectations as a collab. Weather is decent in San Diego, a little May Gray mixed with a little sun. Looking forward to some NBA playoff action and maybe some PGA un Sunday if the action gets good.

Been raining here for three days straight with some pretty heavy flooding in areas. I think I'm gonna have a dry martini (gin, of course, probably Hendrick's) to hopefully ward off any more wet weather. Then cap it off with a High Life or two.

I love the recent civility too, and I'm sure the mods have enjoyed a relatively quiet week as well.

Cheers to all!

Try remembering 'step down'. Stronger to weaker. Liquor, wine, beer...

I can't be certain it works, but I can never keep the rhymes straight. Beer before liquor never sicker, or beer before wine is fine...  They kinda contradict...

And I am sure I have tried every combination and been both fine, and sick. So roll the dice!!!

Before I drink any alcohol, I need a Jordan Whittley size glass of water.

After that, I'm thinking of going to Perrin, but may stay home and drink some Japanese Whisky my son bought. Suntory Toki.

Many people think Japanese whiskey is better than scotch in some ways.  Suntory Toki is probably the most widely available and a decent value.  It's like the makers mark of japanese whiskey, I would say.  It's solid, but not spectacular.  I'm not that familiar with what is considered the "best".  Just getting more into whiskeys and tried Suntory Toki last month (because it was on the shelf at Trader Joe's, ha).

Homes Brewing (Ann Arbor) - Stratum New England IPA.

Delicious but can’t get it here in West MI so I have to load up when visiting the in-laws near Huntington Woods.

Enjoying the last few days before sweltering inferno season starts in Alabama. Not much of a drinker but might break out some Aberlour(sp?) scotch later.

TGIF my fellow MGobloggers ??

Had a pint of Oberon on tap at the golf course with dinner. Relaxing in the back yard sunroom now with a healthy pour of Eagle Rare, so good ?.

Might have to switch to a barrel proof later?

Red, red wine.

It does go to my head sometimes, because I'm not exactly sure what I bought. Inexpensive California cabernet of some kind (Beringer?).

Drinking some Pavement DIPA from Foam.  About to throw some burgers on the grill.  It’s been pretty hot over the last few days, which is fine with me.

Heading to GR next week.  First time in a few years, so looking forward to checking out some beers I haven’t had access to in a while.  Happy to take any recommendations!

I'm looking forward to watching the Warriors tonight.  I watched a little of the Lakers-Warriors game Wednesday and it was the first NBA action I've seen all year.  The Warriors are very fun to watch right now because they're like Curry's Davison teams.  He's just so good and has the ball almost all the time such that he's literally being doubled and yet still finds a way to be a magician.  He's way more fun in that role than he was deferring to Durant, even though it makes it harder on the dubs.  Plus, Jordan Poole gets a lot of open looks because of Curry and I'm rooting for Poole.

I find collaborations are usually disappointing.  They're just publicity stunts that end up being kind of random recipes that don't go through the R&D and refining that a regular beer would before hitting the taps (and bottles).

I'm on the west coast so not out of work yet but I'll be having something that sounds good on tap at the local pizza joint after work.

Being a good soldier and manning the fort while the Mrs enjoys a night out with some friends. Just got the mini-mes to sleep, and about to pour myself a bourbon called Woodinville. I've never had it but my guy at the liquor store recommended it.

Had some Gosnell's mead. It was pretty good. I feel like ideally it would be mixed with something, although it's not like it's strong anyway. I had their mead with gooseberries and that was much better. The tartness of the gooseberries and sweetness of the honey was nice.
