OT: Greatest 80s Hair Metal Song

Submitted by WindyCityBlue on August 4th, 2022 at 5:48 PM

The calm before the non-OT storm.

Today I decided to listen the Hair Metal Essentials on Apple Music.  And man!  It brings me back to some hard, but good times in my life.  My favorites:

  1. Something to Believe In - Poison (this song is by far their best and doesn't get its just do)
  2. Mama, I'm Coming Home - Ozzy
  3. Patience - GnR (personally, I think this is their best song)
  4. Love Bites - Def Leppard (this was their only #1 hit, not Pour Some Sugar on Me)
  5. When It's Love - Van Halen (their only power ballad really)
  6. Heading for a Heartbreak - Winger (Reb Beach is a VERY under-rated guitarist)

What say you MgoBlog?

Hair metal is by definition ridiculous, so logically the the greatest hair metal song must also be the most ridiculous - and that can be none other than:

Europe - “The Final Countdown.”

It's so difficult to choose.....it really depends on my mood. Some possibles:

Overall, my top two are probably Somebody Save Me (Cinderella) and Smooth Up In Ya (BulletBoys). Top, but less "hair" metal - y would be Welcome Home (Sanitarium) by Metallica and Cemetery Gates by Pantera.

Then I could list hundreds of songs that are close. Hair metal is probably still my top genre, though the later "angry Dad rock" (think Sirius Turbo) like Godsmack and Disturbed ranks right up there these days.
