was genuinely funny, though, parcticularly the Jon Cena part, which may be one of the funniest scenes of any movie I have ever seen.

Other than that, yes.  Applebees especially, I don't understand why people eat there.  Even if you are a restaurant chain person, Applebees food is so bad it seems intentional.  Go to Chili's at least for god sake.

quesadilla burger used to be good, but the quality of everything has fallen off there that not even that is good anymore.  And things are just so inconsistent.  The last time I got a burger and fries from Applebees, I got nine fries.  9.  I counted them out.  Wtf?

Amy Schumer is funny, but she is not versatile.  She has one sctick and it is past its expiration date.  Truly funny people (Steve Carrol, Melissa McCarthy, Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy) can make you laugh in a multitude of ways.  Schumer is a one trick pony.

If they can give me 13 more episodes like the Hodor one or Battle of the Bastards I'll be happy. Still can't understand how they stop the White Walkers.

The North is together, but still kind of militarily in a shambles; with its greatest houses laid low. The Vale is intact but ruled by Littlefinger. Dorne is intact but their history isn't one of conquest; they do really well in defense in their own lands. The Lannisters are out of money, ruling a rump state that is deeply in debt, with no friends and a military that's been through the mill.

Dany will show up with a big(ish) army and the Dragons. It will be interesting to see who rally's to her banner.

And only Jon and the North seem aware of the White Walkers.

WAG predictions: I bet the Dragon's dont' make it to the end, at least not all of them. I also think littlefinger will almost make it to the end but that his plots will eventually catch up to him. The lannisters go down with Jaime saving what he can. Either Dany or John end up ruling.

other than some sports and the like, i dont watch much of anything live (or week to week) anymore after the advent of dvr, netflix, etc.   and even if i i did, game of thrones may be more of binge show.

so many characters with even more storylines...its wild.  i binged the first 2-3 seasons in like a month after surgery and it was great.  then i started watching that next season (3 or 4) but found i had to go back and watch much of previous episodes in order to maintain some continuity and better enjoy (and understand) the recent season.

the books must help to provide historical context and background and weave together some of the stories and characters and whatnot but ive never gotten around to it (and if i did read all those thousands of pages i prob wouldnt have any free time left for the show!)

I just noticed one last night that I hadn't considered...

Back in the very first scene of the first episode of season 4 (or 5? can't remember which), Cersei is told by a fourtune teller that "Someone younger and more beautiful than you will take what you hold dear" or something to that effect.  They imply throughout the whole episode and season that it's Margary.  But, well, we know what happens there.

But it just so happens someone younger and more beautiful is on her way right now.

Really, really cool how the show is so well thought out and these subtle hints throw you off initially until you re-watch them later.

in fact.  Danearys and Sansa would both qualify.

And it was also said in that flashback that Cersei would die at the hands of her brother.  She may have made a false assumption about which brother, though.

Also, Danearys may very well be incorrect that the Iron Throne is hers by right and lineage.  If that proves true, it will be interesting to see how she reacts.  I can't tell yet if she is pursuing justice, or merely unchecked power.

Additionally, the biggest wildcard still remaining on the show is Melisandra, who I believe will have a very dramatic impact on how everything shakes out.  People often assume that the biggest weapon remaining on the show are dragons.  But they aren't.   It is magic.

GOT fans, help me out here.

I'm a big fan of what's currently referred to as "prestige TV."  From Fargo, to Westworld, to Legion, to Mad Men, to Breaking Bad, to any number of shows on Amazon, Netflix and HBO. I've consumed most of what's considered good to great out there.

That said, I've tried THREE times now to get into Game of Thrones in three different years. I can't make it past episode 5-6 of Season 1. What am I missing? I'll be the first to admit that fantasy isn't my favorite sub-genre. ie I watched the LOTR series, but I don't particularly care for that type of setting.

Does it change? Get better? The sheer fanatacism of people who watch this show is something that usually means I'll get some form of enjoyment out of a series, but it's just slow and boring. And this is from someone who loves Mad Men one of the slowest, non-plot driven, character development shows ever put on TV.

Im not sure if this is common, or if this is just one of those shows that just isn't for me. Thoughts? Suggestions?

At least watch through the end of the first season. If you can't get into it by then, then you won't get into it. Forewarning: Season 2 is slow, but Seasons 3 and 4 are some of the best, so if you decide at the end of season 1 that it's worth watching, don't stop again in the middle of Season 2.

I tried watching Mad Men and The Wire and couldn't get into them after a season, so you're not alone. I think the closest comparison would be to imagine someone saying they gave up on Breaking Bad after 5-6 episodes. The show doesn't really start to hit its stride until season 3.

Unpopular opinion: it's overrated. There are so many characters an side plots now that you really only get 10-12 mins of each storyline per episode. Sometimes you won't see characters for two episodes straight. Sure there is tits and gore, but the dialogue and pacing leaves a lot to be desired.

are pacing issues, to be sure.  That is my one genuine criticism of the show.  There can be 6 episodes where nothing happens, and what does is not nearly significant enough for the time that is dedicated to it.  Then there will be one over-packed episode with huge implications that are all jammed into one episode and completely rushed.  That is a problem.

The biggest problem the show has faced was with the Stannis stuff in season 5.  I think that Martin was a little irritated that the show was passing him and was not really collaborating to the degree they needed.  Last season was pretty damn strong though.

As you say, it might just not be your thing. I know tons of people who have no interest.

One thing that helped me... I realized early on that if I didn't keep track of the many characters they throw at you pretty quickly, it would be meaningless to me and I'd lose interest. So for the first season and part of the second (I binge-watched the first five seasons before catching season 6 in real time), I read a detailed synopsis of each episode before going on to the next. Wikipedia is where I went... links to every episode on this page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Game_of_Thrones_episodes

Maybe it's not an issue for you, but sure helped me, and glad I stuck with it.
