DOUBLE POS BANG OPPORTUNITY. IM IN.
I'm might do some kayaking tomorrow. Anybody have any suggestions? I need to rent a kayak. Anybody ever been to Proud Lake recreation area in the Wixom/Milford area?
Suggestions on what? Brands?
I would go with Hobie, Ocean Kayaks, Wilderness Systems or Malibu.
I owned Malibu and Ocean Kayaks in the past. I now have a Hobie Revo with the mirage system because most of my kayak is now for fishing purposes.
Greetings from Bolivia.

Just looking for suggestions on a river where I can rent a kayak for a few hours. I am thinking about getting a kayak for fishing in the near future and those Hobie Revolutions look nice.
If your in Michigan, the Pine River out by Luther is a good river. Its probably one of the fastest in the lower peninsula. It also has some pretty high dunes which are pretty fun to climb. Not sure about the fishing though sorry.
I thought it was a cop out at first to get the mirage pedaling system, but it really helps when you ar lugging a bait tank and lots of gear.

I'd steer clear of the Milford run. They have some shitty portages over their dams. Last year a kid and an experienced kayaker (who was trying to rescue the kid) were killed. The kd's boat was sucked back into the hydraulic since the portage has you put in so close to the dam.
Also the rental places there only seem to have sit on top models, which I hate.
Sit on tops are more common for rentals. For me they are more practical since I only use kayks in the ocean.

You get a show along with it.

which empties into Burt Lake. Pretty swift and mighty cold right now, I should think.

I trout fish all over the state and trust me, these are the three worth having fun.

It's a variety pack for fishing. I strip streamers through there and gotten nice browns, steelhead, smallmouths and walleye. Not as pretty as northern streams, but worth a couple trips a year.
We're gonna play with toughness, we're gonna be responsible and we're gonna play with toughness. This is Michigan.
I leave near there but have not been on the Huron river. It's the same river that run through A2. If you do anything afterwards check out Milford and it has some good restaurants and bars. Wixom not so much. River is very slow moving and has some good wildlife.
"I knew Bo Schembechler and you sir, are no Bo Schembechler!"
http://www.heavnercanoe.com/ rents out of proud lake rec area and island lake rec. I think Island lake is the prettier stretch of river, it's almost all in parks where the proud lake location goes through some backyards here and there (unless you go upstream from the rental place). Both places do hourly rentals or down river pick up. The island lake location is on a lake if that's what you prefer, but you can walk 100yards and launch in the river below the damn.
Be advised the Island lake location is sometimes limited on equipment (most notably kayak paddles) so I would call ahead.
Hoping to post them next week. Question: Anyone know how to embed graphs/charts in a diary? My post would really suck if I didn't have the visuals to back it up.

to post a few times on the pos bang threads. My numbers need some rehab after slighting the dorm food and being too enthused about softball. Have mercy on my online identity.
You should get posbanged for your awesome username alone.

CleverMichiganReference up to?
I'm killing the last half hour at my sweet new full-time job in LA (take that, new grad unemployment stats!) before flying to Chicago for a weekend of kayaking and drinking with Mr. MichiganReference.

Absolutely nothing. Burgers and homemade cheese fries for lunch, some shopping and then drinking too much beer after seven days straight of work.

I'm catching up on season four of "True Blood." It's some good mixed with lots of lameness.
My image of you, Magnus.
Not better or worse, mind you. Just...different.

Thank you. Very much.
The first two seasons of that show were watchable... In a surreal, "trippy" sorta way. When season 3 started in "fairy land" I had to tell the wife I was out. It had "jumped the shark"... And was only good as an oddity to begin with. The bits I've caught since then have only reinforced my view.
