OT- Duke Elbows

Submitted by MGoAndy on
Singler threw a blatant elbow into Hansborough and picked up a technical [no ejection]. Henderson pulled down a rebound and cleared space by throwing an elbow into a UNC player, no call. I want to know what Jay Bilas the assclown has to say about the epidemic. Coach K needs to control his team.

No kidding. How does Harris get ejected and Singler get a tech - not even a flagrant? Different conferences, I suppose, along with a little of that home cooking. No denying this is a phenomenal basketball game, though.

Something that I think folks who don't follow Duke basketball don't realize: Jay Bilas, as a commentator, is the most anti-Duke personality I've ever heard (presumably overcompensating so people won't think he's biased - but it's absolutely ridiculous). I'm not saying he wasn't over the top against Manny and Michigan. But I assure you, he's not a Duke apologist. Not even close.

that may be so, but Singler's elbow tonight and Henderson's last year will NOT elicit a "Coach K needs to get his team in order" tirade tomorrow like he did after Harris got the boot. if he's gonna spew righteous indignation, he's gotta do it both ways, and i promise you he wont.

And Duke has always been able to do whatever they want on D without any consequences. I don't understand why they haven't won at least five more titles with that kind of advantage. I guess the refs must feel Duke players are so "intelligent" that they would never foul anyone.

they tend to only get away with all the hand-checking and flopping at home. Come tournament time, the officiating is more even handed. Duke hasn't won more than their three titles because they usually aren't the most talented team in the tournament.

From the replay, it appeared that Singler was trying to rip the ball away and his fingers slipped off of the ball. The result was his elbow flying up and Hansborough just happened to be in the wrong place. Obviously, I don't know what was going through his mind, but I've watched the replay a couple of times and it appeared that the elbow was entirely accidental.

...may not necessarily be a "Duke apologist", but he sure as hell is an ACC apologist. He has actually been called on it by some of his peers. And, no, he will not be calling for Coach K to get control of his team. He is nothing more than a douche.

we cannot forget Christian Laettner's stomp on the Kentucky player in the NCAA tourney years ago. That was worse than any elbow anyone could throw and he was not ejected or disciplined internally for it (although he did draw a T)

Bilas and I had a bit of a back and forth via email after his douchbaggery regarding Beilein getting control of his team. I asked what he thought of the Singler elbow and he said this: "Excessive and unnecessary. If it were not a dead ball, he probably would have been tossed. It was intentional and there is no place for it." So take that for what it is worth. Dude is still a douche.
