OT: Domers Nat'l Championship Tee Shirt surfaces

Submitted by Finance-PhD on

As we know they make shirts for both teams in a championship so that it is available as soon as the game is over to sell to celebrating fans. Normally the loser shirts go to some developing country never to be seen but at least one ND shirt ended up in Pennsylvania.

I am posting this mainly because of my hatred for ND.

What I find especially curious is that they thought they had ANY chance against Bama.  I mean, no other team in the country would have won that game either.  So...why spend the money on dem shirts?

It's not like "Notre Dame," the institution spent the money. Addidas made that shirt, as I'm sure a handfull of other licensees did.  It's not that much outlay for a few thousand shirts to sell right away and the profit margin makes it completely worth it if the team does win.  How big of an underdog a particular team is doesn't factor into the equation.  After all, significant under dogs DO occassionally pull off the miracle, plus, can you imagine the fall out if ND had won and all of their fans at the game immediately went clamoring to buy official gear only to find out that Addidas didn't have enough faith in their team to have shirts and hats printed up?  *gulp*

Better to have them ready on the off chance you'll be able to sell a $3.00 shirt for $25.00 than NOT be prepared and face a disasterous PR problem.

The media ND hype machine was in full swing for that one. The steel curtain ND defense was going to stonewall Bama and force a close toss-up game. The mobile and dangerouse Golson would have a chance to make a few plays and swing the game to the Irish.

Then gameday hits, and it is just a brutal and beautiful dose of reality. It's not good when Zeke Motta performs better than anyone else on the entire team.

but after what they did to us on week one, and seeing how we played ND a short time after, did you ever consider that ND had ANY chance in that game?  I know, I know...transitive property and all, but did you think for a minute that Saban wouldn't have that team ready to throttle ND?  I had absolutely no doubt in my mind...

Yes, but my prediction (and I bet I'm not alone on this) is that those teams would have treated ND to a similar ass-kicking that Alabama gave them.  And, to be fair, they'd have likely beaten Michigan as well.  Sadly, the top SEC teams are a notch above most of the rest of the country right now.  We need to get there, and I cannot wait until it finally happens.

It actually is a pretty sweet shirt, however.  If I were a ND fan, and we had won that game, I would have definitely purchased one.

I'll just chime in with what a couple others have already said. I actually like the shirt. This makes me happier they lost. I couldn't live in a world where I actually had to compliment something being worn by a Notre Dame fan.

and Thailand and Bolivia wearing them, after Adidas quietly sells off the stock to third-party overseas wholesalers to recoup its investment.
