He will not be MVP. He also needs to shake the image of not ready for prime time when he pitches in the playoffs. And yes I know he's only had 2 chances in the postseason.

had a better year than Verlander, not just pitchers but postion players too. I think he wins the MVP, look at the other candidates.

Bautista- Great year best player in the American League no doubt, but his team didnt make the playoffs the voters usually frown upon that.

Granderson- I love Granderson but alot of his numbers are a product of the short porch in Yankee stadium, and you could argue that he wasn't even the best player on his team. (Cano)

Ellsbury- Again his team didn't make the playoffs and Adrian Gonzalez stole some of his limelight.

and for the people that say a Pitcher can't win the MVP, well not even the guys that actually play the game believe that, Verlander won the Most Oustanding player of the year award a couple weeks ago, an award that is strictly voted upon by the players. This has turned into a rant and I apologize.

The Granderson myth strikes again.

Despite the lazy and reductive ramblings of "short porch," there's something in statistics called splits. You're just a click away from seeing that Granderson had exactly ONE more dinger at home (21) this season than he had on the road (20).

He's not a product of his park. He's a great power hitter -- period.

I think Verlander has changed the tide of the Tigers. Hell, MVP voters are starting to believe him. Never in a million years would I have imagined that. Winning the Triple Crown, pitching the most innings, and leading the league in WHIP is a good start.

I still have to laugh at the guy on here with a few weeks left in the season who argued Verlander had no business winning, and in fact Sabathia was going to win, because traditional stats are meaningless, and Sabathia led Verlander in xFIP by 0.6%.

Sabathia not in the top 3...

If it had gone to anyone else I would have bought a torch and a pitchfork and led the villagers on a riot.

As far as MVP - if he isn't on the Tigers they don't win the division, they don't make the playoffs, they may not get over 500.  Period.  No one player had a bigger impact on his team this year.  He stopped loosing streaks.  He is a presence in the dugout.  He was dominant and, at times, simply untouchable.  He was a virtual guaranteed W each time he pitched all year long.

He was also a day off for the bullpen, leading the MLB in innings pitched (251).  So after loosing to Verlander, a team knew it would face a well rested bullpen the next night.

If MVP stands for Most Valuable Player, he gets it.  There was just no one who was more valuable to his team than Verlander was to the Tigers.  If he doesn't get it, they need to rename the trophy to "Most Valuable Player Who Isn't a Pitcher Since they Have the Cy Young and Its Not Fair" award.  But, who wants to win that award?  Just give it to JV.

I do agree on the last bit.  All the stuff gets added into an MVP award is waay dubious.  Somewhat like the "Oh he can't win, he plays on the West Coast" argument that gets made in the Heisman race.  I still like JV, but I am a Tigers fan and I am not going to pretend to be objective.  I want him to get and I think he should.

Congrats to him. He is very deserving of this award. Although he should be MVP as well, these voters have something up their asses about the MVP going to an every day player. Hopefully this year will be different.

JV deserved the CY Young. I don't think anyone will argue that.

In my mind, he's the MVP as well. The award is Most Valuable PLAYER. Not Most Valuable Hitter or Most Valuable Pitcher. Even though JV doesn't "play every day", he had more value to the Tigers than any other player did for his team.

He got every single vote for the Cy Young award.  Do you know how hard it is for the writers to vote for anyone from Detroit?

I guess you can say he’s at the top of his game.  Justin is probably the most talented Tiger pitcher of my lifetime (est.1960).
