and craziness indeed.
but i direct you to the other baseball thread of the night
and craziness indeed.
but i direct you to the other baseball thread of the night
But...no one was really talking about the other games there. Mods can delete for redundancy if they wish.
This shit is crazy, and is thread-worthy.
First time Ive watched a baseball game in nearly 2 months. This is crazy. The Braves have had a few chances to win this game and have come up short.
hang in there - and bear it with you.
But this is a great mod post. You let everyone know it's ok (posters and other mods), and that you're making sure it doesn't stray, and stays worthy. This is what good modding is about - open, aware, and not draconian.
Rays tied it up
Wow talk about what somone dreams of doing
Dan Johnson home run just tied it for the Rays! Getting crazier by the minute
THIS IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!! RAYS HR WITH TWO OUTS IN NINTH TO TIE IT UP!
Tigers @ yanks in the Bronx on Friday night. Stupid Mike Napoli, 4 bombs in the last two games. Rangers win 5 in a row to get the home field and a date with TB or Bos.
the Yankees than TB right now.
Agreed. Getting 1st round home field advantage over Texas looked a lot better when it seemed that match-up would include the Red Sox. Tampa is red hot right now. I'm not so sure the Rangers got the sweet end of the deal here.
TB is 11-9 in September. TB being the hottest team in the AL is a pretty common misconception right now.
That is amazingly clutch
and i guess we can gett caught up in the excitement of the night.
DOnt think i actually want to see the rays in the post season. Too scrappy with some solid players. Dont make mistakes on the field and a helluva a pitching staff.
I'd rather play the rays than the Rangers. Playing 4 games in Arlington isn't fun, its glorified slow pitch softball and negate our pitching advantage.
but TIgers have a less than spectacular history playing in a dome. The speed of the Rays presents more problems IMHE
The Red Sox-Orioles has gone far enough to be official, but can't believe MLB would allow a rain shortened game to determine the wild card, though. Is it raining hard in B'more?
It's raining pretty hard but your instinct is right, they will play the rest of the game
Yankees and Rays going to extras. Phillies and Braves heading to the 12th. Also looks like Boston and Baltimore game about to resume.
what an epic night of baseball...this is awesome. Tigers will be in New York and I am confident that the Tigers will win...
And the Orioles' first hitter just got plunked in the ribs.
Hit the second batter too
Who comes back from 7-0 down? Maybe the Yankees are throwing the game just to cause misery for the Sox. I'm not a big baseball guy but this is cool.
And MLB was all worried about not having any races to keep people interested. Ha.
If your TV isn't on baseball right now, you are no fan!
Braves - Phillies is in the 13th inning.
Braves need to win to force a game 163 with the Cardinals.
Marco Scutaro thrown out at home. Sox still up 3-2
Scutaro just thrown out at the plate. Still 3-2 Sox, Middle 8th.
What a play by Baltimore to save a run!
Gunned down at the plate. Should have been an easy run.
wow, this is epic
This is the first time I've ever said this but...
Best last day of baseball ever.
I feel bad for Boston fans (aside from the fact that they've had a helluva decade).
They took an early lead, and then had to endure a rain delay just in time to watch the Rays score 7 runs in the 8th and 9th innings to come back on the Yankees. Scutaro should have scored on the play if not for a mental error. Things just seem to be aligning perfectly for an old school, epic Boston sports collapse.
A lot of the Boston fans they've showed in the stands have that, "We're-winning-but-it-doesn't-feel-like-we're-winning oh-gawd-oh-gawd-oh-gawd-why-is-this-happening-to-us?" look on their faces.
75% of Red Sox Nation are insufferable bandwagon fans.
The whine and complain about the yankees payroll when there's is 2nd highest and more than anyone else.
If they collapse they deserve it. I'll lick some tears of unfathable sadness.
"I feel bad for Boston fans" is a phrase that it would take a tragic plane crash for me to utter.
Edit: I will add that at least, I can empathize. I don't sympathize, but I think we all know what that perspective on a game is like and it's both the best and worst feeling ever.
I never feel bad for Red Sox fans. They're insufferable. I was on their side in 2004 b/c I hate the Yankees and I thought it'd be cool to see the streak end. I take it all back.
Pence couldnt have thrown it out there any better
Phillies scored on a flukey single.
The baseball gods may just really love the Cards. How did that team win 90 games? And don't get me started on the worst WS champion in history.
I just am a glass half empty kind of guy I guess
Are these atl hating baseball gods in anyway related to the michigan hating gods?
I feel compelled to say this year's team is very talented and are finally putting it together and at the right time (but a long way to the WS)...I can't say the same for the 06 team, they just got hot at the right time.
I am so giddy right now. What a comeback.
What are the Yankees doing? Don't understand why they had most of their regulars in today.
Double play, game over for the Braves. The collapse is complete. Blew an 8.5 game lead in September. Cards capture the wild card.
St Louis gets the wild card and will face Philadelphia (Game 1 Saturday in philly)...Arizona heads to Milwaukee (Game 1 Saturday in Milwaukee)
should just take pitches until Proctor walks one in.
Clutch DP by Balt with bases loaded. Papelbam threw 30 pitches last night. Might be tired for the 9th in a one run game.
Baltimore gets out of a bases loaded jame in the 9th and heads to their final 3 outs only down by 1...
Wow, Baltimore gets out of a huge jam. Boston had the bases loaded with 1 out and hit into a double play.
Yanks - Rays is going into the 12th.
Yankees have runners on the corners with no outs.
EDIT: Chris Davis doubles down the right field line, and the tying run is on for Baltimore.
How funny would it be if Boston and Tampa both end up losing?
O's tie it up. Fuck on a stick
I grew up with Reimold who just got that hit for the Os. He lived right by me. Nice dude and a heck of a player.
Tampa gets out of a huge jam. On to the bottom of the 12th!
Baltimore scores! Tie game! Nearly a homer, off the wall in right center field.
How many exclamation points will he use!!!!?
Gets to Papalbaum. Bost And balt all tied up.. Winning run on 2nd
O's tie it off Papelbon with 2 outs and 2 strikes. Winning run on 2nd.
RED SOX NATION IS CHOKING LOL...papelbon blows a save and they are tied in the 9th...i love it
Hope the post season is like this with the Tigers winning of course.
Holy shit Longoria. Walk off!!!!
Game over! Baltimore wins!
Walk-off single by Andino to left. Crawford was playing shallow but still couldn't get to it.
That is all.
Orioles win!!!! Papalbam blows it. Andino the Red Sox killer!!!
GAG CHOKE HACCCCKKKKK!!! Hahahahaha!!
Gonna start drinking
You're only starting now?
My good sir, you are doing it wrong.
Fuck the orioles. Go tigers. Go phillies.
People are yelling in the street outside my apartment in NYC.
Down goes Boston!
And replace with '11 BoSox? Let's see what TB does...
Longoria is up....
Go Rays!!! Best run organization in baseball.
and Longoria with the walkoff!
legit the best day of baseball I've ever seen. And ESPN was saying these races weren't going to be exciting....
321 feet foul poul!!!
TB In Boston out
See you in Arlington
And Longoria wins it. Amazing 10 minutes.
The Red Sox are eliminated.
Ridiculous night of baseball.
Gonna start drinking harder
You guys kicked some ass for the middle 100 games this year...
......AND HE WINS IT!
BOSTON COLLAPSES! TAMPA TO THE PLAYOFFS! EPIC BOSTON COLLAPSE!
has paid for itslef 10 fold tonight !!!!
Na na na na....na na na na.....hey hey.....goodBYYYYYYYEEEEEEE Sox!
Un. Fucking. Believable.
from 7 runs down ...Amazing just amazing
Moneyball 2 staring Joe madden and Evan Longoria, someone write a screen play
Robert Andino I want to have your Red Sox killing babies!
Wow, what an exciting couple of minutes.
How about what a night.
That's what she said
Somewhere, Bill Simmons is weeping.
Seems his fears materialized.
He seems like a prophet now
is crying to themselves that they dont get to have a BOS/NYY series. always love when ESPN doesnt get what they want.
They're not crying yet... Great night for TV and a large footprint is left for the playoffs.
Aren't playoffs split between TBS and Fox. Boston wasn't getting by Texas anyway
Oh the red sox fans ought to be fun to deal with tomorrow...
I'M FREAKING OUT! THIS IS AMAZING
two HUGE comebacks...St Louis from 8.5 GB and Tampa from 9 GB
what. a. day.
are you f-ing kidding me this is the best baseball ive seen in my whole 29 years of life...wow
where I am so happy I love sports and am as obsessed as most on this site...wow
What's worse? This or the '04 Yankees blowing the 3-0 lead in the ALCS?
not even close...so much more on the line, never happened before in history...that was bad
Of course, this is worse. Look up "Schadenfreude" in the dictionary, and you'll see a photo of a guy in Yankees pinstripes hanging his head in defeated shame.
"We will always have the '04 ALCS."
-Boston Red Sox, 2011 Baseball.
I'm grasping at straws here
Truly a great day to hate the Red Sox
All ten fans sticking around the Trop after the win.
Fuck the Yankees.
Storms a comin'!
The eight highest-paid players from last year are all gone. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year. A month ago, most people had written this team off. It even looked like they might dump a lot of vets at the trading deadline and start over. Luckily for the Rays, they were a "victim" of their own success. No GM wanted to be the guy who traded a future star or stars to the Rays for a player who didn't hold up his end of the bargain.
Either the Rays comback and Red Sox collapse would be stunning by itself. For both to happen simultaneously, ending with the Rays winning the wild card berth in extra innings on the last day of the season, mere minutes after Boston blows a ninth-inning lead, is one of the least-likely occurances I have ever seen in sports.
There are a lot of fans in various states of disbelief in two cities right now.
Wow. Whatever, GO TIGERS
For posterity, us Braves fans are currently contemplating the meaning of life and whether or not it's worth living. Early returns suggest it's not. #schadenfreude
Didn't the Mets have a similar collapse, except twice in a row? What is it with that division?
better than being a Cubs fan ;)
If the Tigers beat the Yanks, this will be the greatest baseball season of all time. Well, for me personally at least.
- Red Sox have monumental collapse
- Good to see teams like the Dbacks, Brewers, and Rays in the playoffs
- Tigers win first division title since '87
Pretty memorable for me at least.
That Tampa Bay has such a small fan base right about now.
Seriously. They've got a good young team right now and the future looks bright. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised to see them relocated.
probably looking forward to facing a floundering Boston team. Now they get to face a hot Rays staff.
Tigers in 4 over Yankees.
Just for fun, other predictions
Tex over TB in 5
Philly over STL in 4
Milwaukee over Arizona in 5
Tigers over NY in 4
Rangers over Rays in 4
Brewers over DBacks in 5
Phillies over Cards in 3
