I kind of wish it went to a WR, but I'd rather have it on the field than waiting for the "perfect" player in the "perfect" year after they've "earned it".
Another dumb B1G/NCAA rule. Grad transfers have a degree. They should be free to go wherever they want. Michigan will be fine either way in this case. Still a dumb rule.
I agree, Michigan should also not be in contact with any recruits that have already committed verbally to other schools before NSD. It would be inappropriate to undermine the bond that they have with their committments.
I am thinking for myself. And this entire overreaction by Michigan fans is a non-story. If anything the group think is going on by those who consider this a big deal and are comparing it to SMU, bagmen, and raping children then covering it up.
All the upvotes sir. How do we think the "stretchgate" non-story took off. At least that one had an actual violation behind it, however trivial. Michigan fans and media are insufferable.
Summer swarm got the Michigan name out there in places that are difficult to make inroads. It also allowed lots of in person talent evaluation. Not a problem.
Why not? The post above you lists great reasons why it is fine to offer recruits early. It helps their resume with other interested schools. It also helps Michigan as we get in early on some potentially great talent. If Michigan re-evaluates and goes with a better option or the talent doesn't improve in their senior year no harm done. The only harm is the holier-than-thou reaction our fanbase has for some reason.
So many posts in this thread saying essentially the kid was blindsided. Yet, somehow we all knew he probably wasn't going to be in the class well ahead of time. Same thing with Swenson. The misplaced outrage is ridiculous.
bbbbbut I'm an outraged moral high-horse Michigan fan!!1! What am I to do???!!? Welp, back to comparing this to Penn State covering up child rape... (see below in thread if you don't believe me)
"Plain and simple, as soon as he knows he's not taking the kid, he owes it to him to tell him he's not taking him." Right, and you don't know when or if this happened.
I understand if you don't want to spend time looking it up just because some dude on the internet asked. Maybe I can find it. Were direct sources posted on Mgoblog, or one of the Michigan newspapers (daily, det news, freep)?
I remember a lot of consternation at the time over Brandon's lack of advocacy for keeping Michigan and Ohio in the same division and playing at the end of the year, MDog's post being a good example. Heck, I even emailed Brandon at the time to voice my concerns. And obviously Brandon was a horrible AD for many reasons. I'm just wondering how much of the "moving the game outrage" was based in fact and not emotion. Does anyone have any actual articles/audio/video of Brandon's transgressions on this topic?

Why do people always say this? -- guard play is "more important" in the NCAA tourney. Honest question.
bang me
logged in to post this. LOL
Keith Stone. Always smooth, LOL

CLICK BAIT. the Media is running wild with a non-story because they know our fanbase will react. What a joke.
Bo wasn't a saint. See Archibold Meatpants' post.
In fact, he offered LOTS of kids who he knew would never see the field, just to keep them off of other teams. The outrage!

This is reasonable.

Agree in theory, except we don't know what communication happened or didn't happen. We know what a 17 year old said on Twitter and that's it.
Bo cut recruits all the time. I think you're thinking of "Jesus". What would he do?
Nice to see some reasonable people responding in this thread #OUTRAGGGGGE
Nice equivocation. We are like SMU now because we signed a 4 star over a 2 star who verbally committed before signing day.

oh, ok. But every site says "he gone"
Can someone remind me, what happened with Nate Johnson's commitment again? I liked his highlight reel.
I think Aaron Hernandez is going to have a breakout year.

edit: come at me bro
I feel like the photo needs a Michigan flag in the background, or maybe on his armour.
Or some captions.
Nick Saban, are you not entertained?!
Autumn is coming.
All your recruits are belong to us.
True, doesn't need to be 'shopped, but it's fun. So many options, as you've started to list...
