OT: Astros Throw Combined No-Hitter in World Series
Only the second no-hitter in World Series history. The first since Don Larsen's perfect game.
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:32 PM ^
Yeah that's gross, fuck the astros.
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:34 PM ^
Grossest part is that it was a combined no-hitter.
November 3rd, 2022 at 6:46 AM ^
An Astros fan would like to have a word with you.

Mattress Mack is a national treasure!
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:00 AM ^
Look at the bright side: One of the East Coast teams (one that is covered out of proportion on the Eastern Seaboard Programming Network) lost.
Not much of a bright side, but it's all I have this morning.
November 3rd, 2022 at 9:18 AM ^
Right after the Phillies just knocked 5 homers in 5 innings on them. Now a no hitter. Weird ass series.
November 3rd, 2022 at 10:15 AM ^
Phillies say that the Astros pitcher was tipping his pitches in the 5 home run game.
Wonder if the Astros saw a hitch in the Phillies swing last night 🤣
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
People still watch baseball?
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:51 PM ^
Yesterday's game had 9.4 million viewers

Americans’ underappreciation of hockey is a tragedy.
November 3rd, 2022 at 8:19 AM ^
Hockey is the best game, with the worst league running it.
November 3rd, 2022 at 9:28 AM ^
Absolutely - the best game with the worst league, AND, I'd add, the most difficult for the casual fan to follow. TV is bad enough but in person, if you don't understand the flow of a game, you don't know how to follow the action.
November 3rd, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
The problem with hockey is that the speed and skill don't translate well to TV. It is better with HDTV, but you still don't really appreciate what you are watching until you have first seen it live and up close.
Pro tip: GO TO YOST!!
November 3rd, 2022 at 1:00 AM ^
They’ve done everything they can to ruin baseball, so bad TV numbers are no surprise.
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:00 AM ^
I would've preferred different teams. The wild card games were better.
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:56 AM ^
I threw a combined no-watcher
November 3rd, 2022 at 1:20 AM ^
Yes, we do.
I watch baseball, in particular the hapless Tigers, all season long. I would guestimate that I watched at least a few innings of approximately 60-70% of their games this season. I attend a few Tigers and Whitecaps games each season, too.
As for tonight's World Series game 4, I was flipping back and forth a lot between it and WMU MACtion (Crumble Up, Chips!), then stayed with it through the later innings as the Astros mowed down one Phillies batter after another.
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:51 AM ^
hey look, we found "That Guy."
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:39 PM ^
That's a great thing for the game. A no hitter of any fashion in the WS is a big deal.
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:52 PM ^
That’s not a no hitter.
November 2nd, 2022 at 11:55 PM ^
Well it's definitely not a hitter
November 3rd, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
Yep; no runs, no hits, no errors for the Phillies.
The middle zero is the “no hitter” part.
November 3rd, 2022 at 2:53 AM ^
Wrong
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:23 AM ^
The Phillies had literally no hits. What would you call it?
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:57 AM ^
A no-hitter is thrown by one pitcher who throws a complete game. That wasn’t a no-hitter.
November 3rd, 2022 at 1:04 AM ^
What do you call it when a team gets no hits?
November 3rd, 2022 at 1:22 AM ^
For Oracle, grumble time?
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
I'm seeing Oracle squared instead of Oracle 2.
November 3rd, 2022 at 6:23 PM ^
Failure. Unless they win 1-0 on walks, balks, and stolen bases. A no hitter is a pitcher (singular) achievement. A combined no hitter takes a committee of pitchers. Now get off my George Toma lawn ;)
November 3rd, 2022 at 2:53 AM ^
Wrong again Bob
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:24 AM ^
You're describing a complete game no hitter.
Phillies had no hits. What would you call it?
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:55 AM ^
If it's not a no-hitter; and the Phillies got literally no hits; is it a 'hit-not'?
As in: The Astros threw a hit-not last night...
Because otherwise... Dude, take your pearls back into the bedroom.
November 3rd, 2022 at 8:34 AM ^
I think MLB stopped counting combined no-hitters in their official count a while back. I assume that's what these people are trying to say without saying it.
I'll just count that as reason #19482 why MLB is continuing to slip in popularity.
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
Where are you "this wasn't a no-hitter" people getting your baseball authority from—the loudmouth drunk at the corner bar?
Major League Baseball itself is calling last night's game a "no-hitter."
November 3rd, 2022 at 2:03 AM ^
Have no real interest in either team but have some friendships on Phils side. JV has a ring so I'm in for Philly. I think this one's going 7.
November 3rd, 2022 at 4:36 AM ^
Mrs. Attack is in Philly on a work trip. For the last 3 days she's said she's seen so many Phillies' jerseys. I told her to be careful. She's working in an outpatient pharmacy. I hope they have security close by, as pharmacy patients are the absolute worst. Add on getting no-hit in the WS... I hope she has her mace.
November 3rd, 2022 at 4:37 AM ^
As an aside...She is a big baseball fan. Her 2 least favorite players in the world are Altuve and Schwarber. She's in hell either way 😆
November 3rd, 2022 at 6:45 AM ^
I have no idea why but when i first read your comment I pictured something like this:
Which seemed a tad aggressive in the moment
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:57 AM ^
She's in the 'City of Brotherly Love', so yeah, that mace will fit in nicely...
November 3rd, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
Keep it away from Spartan football players.
November 3rd, 2022 at 5:49 AM ^
Probably paid the umpire. Why are they still a team?
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:11 AM ^
yes, go Astros! (ducks)
sorry… I’m too big of a JV fan not to root for them.
November 3rd, 2022 at 9:16 AM ^
And it'd be nice for Dusty Baker to win a WS.
But I'm mixed, with reasons pro and con for both teams. F'rinstance, having sold beer in the old Vets Stadium makes me both pro and con about Philly.
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:46 AM ^
I presume it was exciting. Didn't watch live but saw the highlights this morning.
As a Mets fan, the prospect of the Nats, Braves, and Phillies winning the last 3 real titles is depressing. However, it doesn't quite feel right to root for the Astros either.
So I guess my only option is to continue not to watch.
November 3rd, 2022 at 7:58 AM ^
How many cameras and trash cans were used in the making of this no-hitter?
Fuck the Astros...
November 3rd, 2022 at 8:17 AM ^
I love Verlander just as much as the next guy, but every time I see Altuve reach base I'm unable to separate out the vid of him clutching his chest rounding 3rd so the TV wouldn't see the cheating mechanism he had under his jersey.
Yeah, rootin' for the Phils in this one.
November 3rd, 2022 at 8:32 AM ^
Yesterday's no hitter, followed by JV on the mound tonight, with a chip on his shoulder after giving up 5 runs in game 1..... Phillies have a hill to climb.
November 3rd, 2022 at 9:39 AM ^
JV is now, and forever will be, tainted because he chose to be part of a collective of cheaters. He knew it was going on and agreed with it enough to not say anything to stop it. Ergo, he's also a cheater. Fuck him.
This wasn't like stealing pitch calls from center field or using a bit of grease on the ball to enhance your slider. This was sophisticated cheating using cameras, sounds, and planted devices in a coordinated manner from the front office down through every player and equipment staff that helped set it all up for each game (including those who said nothing about it). This was flat-out organization level cheating against the 'integrity' of the game.
And yeah, that 'integrity' has always been suspect. But for reasons that remained player based - steroids, grease, pine tar, even point shaving... But never before has it included organizational discipline.
EDIT: /rant
Yeah, JV is a helluva pitcher and the Phillies are in trouble...
November 3rd, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
JV says hello.
