OT - All 46 Applicants Applictions for Wisconsin HC Job

Submitted by alum96 on

This is some pretty interesting readings in the embed.  All 46 people who applied for the Wisconsin head coaching job had to file an application of some sort.  So you can't really hide that you were interested in the job.  You get the gamut from geniune to some silly folks who basically sent themselves in like a write in candidate for political office.

Just curious - both Wisconsin and Michigan are public universities.  The story claims these applications are required due to being public (seems iffy).   Seems more like a Wisconsin thing.

EDIT - looks like in the comment sectio they claim state law allows applicant to request their application stay hidden as long as they notify the university in writing.  Someone forgot to tell Bronco.

Anyhow it's sort of interesting to see this stuff out in public.

The Scribd embeds dont seem to work, tried to do it in a response rather than OP but it only shows a very narrow column. So have to follow the links in OP to see em.

I'm pretty sure when the AD and the coache are making a deal that the coaches don't have to "submit" an application until it is an agreed upon deal. Therefore, not everyone that is interested in the job is going to file an application.

Yep, I am sure due to public university regulations everyone has to fill out an application I guess but it just strikes one as hilarious that a guy like Harbaugh has to sit there and fill out one of these damn forms lol.  Of course he probably has one of his kids do it but still sort of funny.  Looks like Aranda (their DC) simply put in a monsterous long resume instead of an actual application.  Chryst put in 2 pages - and now everyone will know his address, phone, and email address since he didnt use his public ones at Pitt. Yikes.

Also funny to see how many people with 0.0% chance of ever getting the job apply.  One guy wrote about his Xbox experience.

The guy in page 75 of the first link cracks me up.

Qualifications: Look great in coach's sideline attire.

He wants at least an autograph from Barry Alvarez and is authorized to work in the US for any employer... lol.

All of these guys have their addresses posted to the internet.

I don't see why any State has to make this public info. At least not unless there is an issue or complaint with the hiring process.

I would think this info could be limited to the court system or something like that.

Something just seems wrong (not in posting it here...it's out there now, but in general).

Or maybe release the names, but not the resume and address and work history...

because there should be transparency in the way public institutions conduct affairs... how would you like it if suddenly Schlissel's entire family ended up with tenure track positions? You can't make an exception for football. The guys like Chryst are smart... it appears he used a quick burner email address and an office address and phone number. The others are paying the price for their hubris in thinking applying to Wisconsin as a joke was a cool idea.

In Texas, personal information (address, phone number, etc.) is public, but the applicant (or employee) can request that it be kept confidential. If such a request is made, then that information is not disclosed.

I don't know what Wisconsin's open government laws provide, but it seems like those laws are pretty much the same state to state. I am guessing that the applicants simply did not ask to have that information kept confidential.

Jesus, how many "Business Analysts" applied for the job?  I get high school coaches just trying to get some face time, but half of these have no football experience whatsoever.  I would think they were basically trolling, if it wasn't for the fact that they took time to write up fairly substantial cover letters.

However, Mr. Greg "I am unemployed and live with my parents" Miller should have at least been a finalist.

Yeah I mean why hire someone that handles deadlines routinely, can organize large scale organizations, has to evaluate personnel, and has a wide experience across industries to call upon.

Instead let's get a guy that happened to play football and work his way through from one media core team after another. Like how only a cook could have an effective restaurant or only a guy that had worked the line can run an auto plant.

I see your point, but it's a dumb one.

You can't hire a guy to run a major university's football program who won't have the respect of his players and fellow coaches - let alone the donors, fans, etc.

Just like a good football coach wouldn't make a good head of Interscope Records or HBO or Apple.

And even beyond that, the cook/restaurant anology is completely misguided.  What it's really like is hiring someone who's going to manage the kitchen, which includes training the chefs (I suppose the AD would be more like the restaurant owner).  I think I want somone who has spent substantial time cooking himself to be training those chefs.

has 60+(!) hours experience in Destiny on ps4. Plus he pissed next to Bob Sanders once! I certainly hope lord Harbaugh at least takes a look at him. I'm thinking OC/QB coach.

What the hell!! I thought they received my application, which they claimed was just a "formality".

Now that those imperialist scum at the CIA have turned my internet back on I plan to write a strongly worded email to Barry.

Look, I get that not every university football program values having attended boarding school in Switzerland and leading a country of over 20 million, but having been lied to once again about even being considered for the job really burns my buns. Ain't no justice in this world.

I was impressed that someone listed Netscape Navigator as a skill. I mean, to be able to stand using it was but I am not sure that's something resume worthy unless it is still 1994 and I am missing something. Also, I really think that "Aurturo Broomie" screams Big Ten coach just by name alone, and I got a good chuckle out of the one where the most recent employment for the guy was as a caterer and bartender - they wouldn't win a lot of games, but the team meals, man...

these sorts of things being released without redaction of personally identifiable information is a big deal on the federal level. not sure how that works at the state level, but I would guess that it either wasn't supposed to happen this way or that the rules in WI will be changing soon

I work for state government, albeit in Florida, and the information seen in these resumes is considered public record. Unless you are a sworn law enforcement officer - home addresses, phone numbers and email addresses are all considered fair game. However, health information, social security numbers and certain financial information like account numbers are not subject to public information requests. This seems legit. Just my two cents.

It's so difficult to find a job these days :c
Hopefully, the quarantine and the pandemic will end soon.

So many applications! It's cool especially in comparison to the current circumstances. Thousands of people lose their job and it's not easy to find a new one. Well, at least if you don't know where to search for. Just click here and you'll enter a site where I managed to find a vacancy I really like.
