Because Stanford is now a perennial top ten team.
STANFORD.

You can joke, but if he really goes 1-15 this year, and Michigan hires him, what do you think will be the first thing out of Mike Valenti's mouth?

At that time of day, Doug Gottlieb on 1270 is the best option. Sad, but way better than the alternatives.

Valenti has said as much...He is terified of Harbaugh coming back to UM. He thinks he will turn us into a power house from day one...the only coach out there who he thinks can do that.

If that's a reference towards wanting Harbaugh as coach, well I'd rather have Les Miles.
September 21st, 2014 at 7:16 PM ^
Miles is older(61) and is prone to making questionable ingame decisions.
Both are pipe dreams.
September 22nd, 2014 at 6:55 AM ^
And by questionable you mean "Does this guy actually understand how football works?"
September 22nd, 2014 at 8:04 AM ^
if questionable by your definition means "wins in the SEC"...then enough said...come on down
Just win Baby

...screwing up end-of-half/game decisions and generally being the Mad (Ass) Hatter.
Oh, and getting dump-trucked at home by Mississippi State.
That'd be like if Northwestern came into the Big House and blew us out.

You know it is.

Les hasn't done much without Saban recruits.
September 21st, 2014 at 7:53 PM ^
10-3, 10-3, 10-3,12-1 (played for a national championship.) while playing in the toughest division of the toughest conference in college football.
I'm guessing right now most Michigan fans would be ok with that.
PS Saban left LSU after the 2004 season.

Les Miles is 61. Unless he's Bill Snyder's evil twin, I don't think he's going anywhere.

Jim has not won a single Superbowl in 4 years with the 49ers: do not want.
John has only won a single Superbowl in 7 years with the Ravens: do not want.
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:42 AM ^
...have won more than one Super Bowl in their lifetimes?
- Belichick
- Coughlin
- Mike Shanahan
- George Siefert
- Parcells
- Jimmy Johnson
- Joe Gibbs
Yeah, no college team is getting those guys. Youngest guys on that list are Belichick and Shanahan, both born in 1952; i.e., 61 or 62 years young. Shanahan is a lifetime NFL guy, so is Belichick, and that guy is going from the Patriots to retirement to the NFL HOF.

I'm amazed that people didn't realize my post was entirely sarcasm. Both Harbaughs are amazing coaches. I'd take either, but neither are coming here.
September 22nd, 2014 at 3:38 PM ^
Obviously, one person didn't get it, but my guess is that generally "people" got it.
September 21st, 2014 at 8:32 PM ^
I don't blame you for wanting Miles because he is my second choice if Hoke doesn't work, but Harbaugh is the best option for this program right now and for the next 10-15 years if he would be willing to stay that long.
September 22nd, 2014 at 11:50 AM ^
All freaking pipe dreams but Jim Harbaugh would be almost an instant shot in the arm. The way he coaches..hard ass, jerkish, 110% all the time...is what we need. Thats why NFL players dont like him, they think he is too intense. They feel entitled to shit and he says eff that, get to work.
I am a Seahawks fan so I cant stand the dude, but I would love the shit out of him at Michigan.
I will take Les too
September 21st, 2014 at 7:16 PM ^
I can't confirm this, but I'd wager this will be the reaction from the majority of mgobloggers.
September 21st, 2014 at 7:16 PM ^
Hell Yeah! I just hope he realizes he can't be worshiped like the God that he is in the NFL. Come Home Jim!!!
September 21st, 2014 at 7:19 PM ^
Hell, I'll start the Church of Harbaugh if that gets him to come here. Whatever it takes.

The comments over at ninersnation.com seem a bit famiar, yet I've never been to that site until now.
example:
Harbaugh has totally lost control of the team..
I hope Harbaugh, Fangio and Roman are gone after this season..
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
September 21st, 2014 at 9:05 PM ^
That was the only thing I saw in the thread that was critical of Harbaugh. Most of the posts were directed at SF players, game refs, and also at Godell ( :p ). While I couldn't agree more with them, there was very little said about the SF coaches.
September 21st, 2014 at 9:06 PM ^
Niners Nation is full of delusional lunatics. They are like RCMB on meth.
