OT: 1-3 Lions @ 1-3 Patriots

Submitted by wildbackdunesman on October 9th, 2022 at 12:41 PM

Anyone planning on suffering through another Lions game like me?

New England favored by 3. Come on Lions! Fox 1PM.

Fun fact:

Bill Belichick's record without Tom Brady is 71-82 or .464 (includes 1-2 postseason).

Wayne Fontes' record without Tom Brady is 67-71 or .486 (includes 1-4 postseason).

I would watch, but, mercifully, I live in Virginia and only get the Redskins (Commanders - what a fucking joke of a name) and/or Ravens.  I refuse to buy the NFL package for reasons.

Go Lions!!

Dude, I can see how many are annoyed and feel that some of the PC stuff has swung too far but man, this one is not the hill to die on...

"Redskin" - It's literally calling your team out as a race or group of races based on the color of skin.

Would "Whities" or "Blackfaces" be acceptable?

You want to moan and cry about the Cleveland Indians or FSU Seminoles, go for it.  But "Redskins" - man, not sure how you can't piece together how that's offensive.

WTF are you talking about?  Fuck you, asshole - I NEVER said anything about being annoyed at "PC stuff", or even anything "offensive".  Your post here is a YOU problem.  YOU are the one that read something that isn't there.  YOU are the one that went in that direction.

I said 'Commanders' is a shitty name - and I'll say it again, 'Commanders' is a shitty name.

Look in the mirror, asshat.

Why punish yourself.

I couldn't imagine being a Loins and Sharty fan at this point.  Valenti rants must be glorious these days.

As a Bears fan we suck and I was horrified when we drafted Fields given the history of OSU QB's in the league, but I at least know that we win or lose in "normal ways"

The loins ability to snatch defeat from victory is something I would have walked away from long ago. Abusive relationship.

On a side note....old school Patriots helmets are sweet.

I didn’t realize until just now Matt Patricia is back on the Patriots staff.

If I knew that prior, I may have thrown a years worth of mortgage payments on the Patriots money line.  It seems that’s how things always go with the Lions.

Dan Campbell is clueless. Poor Hutchinson and Okudah are good people and were great college players but don't appear to be the best uses of very high draft picks. Aiden is still young but it's getting old to see him run past a QB or be exploited with his aggressiveness, over and over. Sort of like watch Javi Baez swinging and missing  and outside sliders over and over. Coaching?

Man it's torture to be a Detroit pro fan. Already thinking tankathon.

Was out doing errands, turned on the radio broadcast.   The Lions went for it on their opening drive at 4th and 1.   Ran their TE for no gain.  Turned it off.   Got home, turned on the TV.   Pats up 16-0 with a first time QB.

Too nice a day to watch anymore.

Will never watch another game unless it’s national TV or local (Atlanta). Just not worth the time and having Sunday’s free has honestly been liberating.

Follow from a distance after 30 years of rather intense fandom.

my hope for this year is another tank job and 1 or 2 overall pick for Stroud or Young.

With all of these high draft picks year after year and with new HC and GM changes every few years, has it really made a difference? I'm so down on this team that Stroud or Young in 2023 would make much of a difference, besides, they'd get injured early in the season.

What a waist. Having once lived and worked in Cincinnati, I'm more of a Bengals fan these days.

I actually believed the hype this season. I had been a Lions fan for years and even was a season ticket holder during the Bobby Ross / Scott Mitchell era. It got to the point that I was napping during games I was so apathetic in the late 90s. It was the same script every game - snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Anyhow after that I kinda distanced myself from the Lions for a good 20 years. But this season, I fell hard for the Lions again. The offensive line looked legit and the defensive line looked to be improving. I know there are holes on defense but I figured 2-3 years out, fill out the back 7 and you have a rising team. The first three games were disappointing, but at least the offense was good. Then THIS debacle of a loss. Playoffs are out of the question. The question is, do they get enough players back from injury to be decent or do they sprial and ruin yet another coaching career. Detroit:  The coaching graveyard. Has anyone had decent success after being a Detroit HC?  How many times can they reboot without success?

It was one thing when they play like they did last week, ending up losing 48-45 but have an offense that clicks. It was at least worth watching. But this ... this is a train wreck, tire fire, clusterfuck, pick your metaphor or roll them all into one. Bottom line, it's nothing but a waste of time.

Two truths:

Belichick actually sucks

The Lions will suck as long as Ford owned

And then there is dumb and dumber:

When the Lions decided it was a smart idea to hire a Belichick disciple. 🤦‍♂️

I think Bill is a good coach, but he's absolutely a great scout, and seems to always out draft and out trade teams. Easily able to plug and play while every other team struggles with roster issues. Team success only seems to come with good coordinators and a healthy qb in the mix, though, as they do anywhere.

I didn't watch. I was busy cooking, but I also didn't want to. Am I right in seeing that the Loins didn't even attempt a fg? They seemed to have very similar stats in passing and rushing yards, but the pats kicker managed 17 points.

The beautiful thing about being a Lions fan is that it's a great conversation subject changer..

If you say "Lions" when people ask you what your team is, they just kinda look half-confused, half-amused and go "Okay" before going on to talk about something else.

It allows me to have an answer when people ask the question without having to talk NFL for a long time because quite frankly I'm not really very invested in the NFL at all and if the league ceased to exist tomorrow I wouldn't feel any sense of loss whatsoever.

Of course if you live in an area where Lions fans are actually common (i.e. Michigan) it might be a different story.
