Oregon and UCLA Go Down

Submitted by Mike Damone on November 13th, 2022 at 2:15 AM

Washington takes out the Ducks on the road, and Arizona upsets UCLA in the Coliseum.  Great games - and it cleared out a couple potential playoff teams.

The PAC 12 teams are fun to watch - but their defenses suck, and they dont deserve a CFP spot, IMO.

This is the year for two BIG teams to make the CFP.

It’s Tennessee that needed to lose. The threat from the PAC12 is USC. Oregon with the Georgia loss was going to get blocked by UT/loser of the Game.

Yeah. I don't think TN will lose again in regular because of schedule.

To think that CFP committee will put TN whose offense was throttled by Georgia back in playoff to be destroyed again is laughable. If that game was close, I would understand. But that game was not close at all. But SEC bias is real. So what you are saying is a real possibility but does not make sense.

TN looked like shit against GA.  They did not even have a TD until garbage time at the end of the game.

The narrative that they are in if they win out is SEC bias garbage.  They did not even win their division.

They should not get in over any one loss P5 conference champion.  And yes that includes even Clemson.

Why would a Georgia loss in week one be worse than the loss that happens when Mich/OSU play (Tennessee got rolled by Georgia as well)? Oregon was getting in if they stayed a one loss team, I think.

USC’s remaining schedule is against UCLA, Notre Dame and then likely Oregon in the championship if they make it. Doubt they make it out unscathed but they are in if they do.

We need TCU and/or Tennessee to lose if we want the Mich/OSU loser to still be in.

A narrow loss by Michigan in Columbus SHOULD certainly be less relevant as a block against a playoff invite than a week one blowout loss by Tennessee vs Georgia that was a shutout except for a single garbage time score.

Clarification: I mean "should" in the sense of logic, not prediction.

Even if Michigan narrowly loses to THE in Cbus, I don't see the committee putting two big ten teams into playoffs.

One-loss Tennessee and/or one-loss USC (who would be Pac-12 champion) will get in over one-loss Michigan or OSU. And looking like TCU will run the table, so I think it's doubtful that BIG gets two teams in.

ACC is cooked. Pac-12 is down to USC and barely. USC does not have a single victory over a team currently ranked in the top 25.

Not one.

UNC is going to smoke Clemson anyway.

But it would take a 100-0 Clemson win for them to get a sniff.

Clemson won't be over the other 1 loss teams, even with a ACC Championship.

It's like none of you remember the year TCU got jumped in the last poll by 1 or 2 conference champions. The very reason why the Big 12 has a championship game today.

USC/TCU/Clemson all end up 12-1 champions and 2 of the 3 are likely to end up in.

The odds of the loser of The Game getting in are getting very low.

The few UCLA fans and Keith Jackson who showed up at the Rose Bowl to watch their team lose to Arizona want to have a word with the OP about thinking their beloved Bruins play at the Coliseum. That would be USC who plays at the Coliseum

Talking about UCLA, Charbonnet had a stellar game. 24 carries for 181 yards, 3 TDs in the losing effort.

That would be a mistake by CFP committee. This team has throttled every team on its way so far. But TN lost bad to one team that will be sure to make the playoff. USC is not facing a team like OSU or UM. Same for TCU. But the committee has changed their rules whenever they want. They will use conference championship when it fits narrative.

We're not getting in if we lose to OSU, and if by some weird fluke we did it would be as the #4 seed for a rematch with Georgia and...yeah.  Our dream scenario should be getting the #2 seed with TCU as the #3 seed because based on what I saw last night we'd dominate them on both lines.  We could run our base offense and pave their stupid 3-3-5 all night.

PAC12 After Dark didn't disappoint last night!  I watched the majority of both those games, and holy hell were they fun to watch!  Washington has blossomed into a pretty good team under DeBoer, but Bo Nix made the secondary look like it wasn't on the field.  Same when Penix had it, though - UW tore apart Oregon's zone so easily that they didn't need the running game they don't have.  Overall, UW's defense is a step behind Oregon's, but that may be a factor of UW's complete lack of a running game.  In any case, both defenses are, ahem, bad...

As for Arizona - who is this team?  They came in 3-6 but looked fantastic in shutting down DTR.  Charbonnet had a day, 186/3TDs, but UA only gave up one big run to him, which is unusual.  His game was very Corum-like, lot of carries, really good YPC, but the rest of their offense isn't Michigan-like at all.  Instead of using ZC to wear down UA, they used him as a relief to DTR, who was largely getting stoned.  And UA's QB was constantly escaping pressure for big gains.  As usual in the PAC12, defense was optional and thus rarely played.  Here, UCLA didn't fart around - they played hard and just got beat by a (now) 4-6 team.  They'll most likely get shredded by USC's pass game.  But USC's 'defense' will get shredded by ZC and DTR, so that should be a wildly fun game to watch.

Had no impact on the playoffs, but Texas A&M lost to Auburn.

The Fighting Jimbos are now 3-7, and I don't think anybody had that record on their CFB bingo card at the beginning of the season. And I am loving it.

Hey, you’re talking about the pre-season ranked #6 team in the country.  That means seven teams beat a Top 10 SEC team.  No one in B1G country realizes how great of a coach Jimbo is - or, how good & talented of a team A&M is.  (Sarcasm, of course)
