Oregon's new sports performance center for football is incredible

No surprise here, but Oregon's Marcus Mariota performance center is awesome. https://t.co/UuvCiwm6Pu

Seeing this makes me wonder how the Clemson video gets any buzz. This is bananas... so far beyond anything I've seen in other hype videos.

Great facilities

I would be afraid to sweat in there.  Looks more like the set for a sci-fi film about the not-to-distant future than a place to work out.

I was waiting for the cyborgs to emerge.

Looks cool but there are 4 stationary bikes and about 100 square feet to push around that sled. Looks like it's more of a museum than Performance Center... surely there's more to the place than the video shows.

At some point in the facilities arm race, the Law of Diminishing Returns has to kick in as far as the effect on recruits goes. Maybe it has already; we hear constantly how awesome Oregon's facilities are, but they're not that great of a recruiting force. Basically every Power 5 program has given its practice facilities a facelift over the past few years. We're at a point now where it's a comparison of a Ferrari vs. a Lexus vs. a Rolls Royce.

I'm not arguing that they are equivalent brands. Of course a Rolls is more prestigious. But if every company is offering me at least a Lexus-level vehicle, then that's probably not going to be the decisive factor in my decision - especially if the company offering the Rolls has some clear shortcomings.

But everything else isn't equal. The company offering you the Rolls is located out of the way for you/your family, its benefits package is OK but not as good as some others' and its historical track record/reputation doesn't knock your socks off. Does the vehicle still tip the scales?

The company offering the Rolls is objectively worse by those measures than the Lexus one. Your family has to fly to visit you if you live there (whereas they can drive if you take the other job). Pay/benefits aren't bad but are nevertheless worse than at the other company. Networking opportunities are more limited - it touts itself as an "up and comer" and has shown some recent growth, but the other is an industry leader. It does, however offer you that sweet ride.

just looked it up, it is bad ass (also $400K). I wouldn't take it over most Ferraris, and not over almost any Lamborghini.

Still, one doesnt tend to lump those brands together. poster could have said BMW, Benz, or Lexus to better prove the point. inferior but not enough to sway your decision.

No. I think his point is that at some point the car is nice enough to where you start focusing on other things...not the car. I.e. At some point all facilities are nice enough to where OSU adding a super expensive water feature isn't going to sway someone from Auburn, or wherever.

They have the best facilities in the NCAA and everything flashy a recruit could want/imagine. Yet still they're unable to recruit at an elite level because of how large and how far the pacfic northwest is. It kind of sucks to be them, to be honest.

Oregon recruits just fine. They score low on the rankings because their recruiting strategy is based on finding players that fit their system and the ranking sites don't value those players as much.

What was I supposed to get from that video? Something new with a green color scheme opened? I did not see a single thing that made we say wow, other than Marcus Mariotta won some awards. And yet, their QB recruiting seems to be lacking since they have had to turn to grad transfers this year and last.

It's a nice campus and a crunchy, fun little town, but their regular buildings and facilities are just that - regular.  There's a pretty stark contrast between the flashy new Knight-built athletic facilities and the rest of the campus.

Closest comparison at UM would be the way Ross stands out on UM's campus - the rest of campus is nice, but Ross is newer and flashier.

To me, it's a bit creepy just how much influence Knight has; he pretty much has carte blanche to build whatever the hell he wants.

I know UM and all our peers (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oregon, etc) will do this, or already do, as its an arms race. Additionally, we have the money, as UM fans (and the fans for about 30 other programs) seemingly have bottomless amounts to give to make sure little to no general fund dollars go to it.

But I still find it ridiculous. The Power 5 schools should break into their own conference, where they can spend $100 million-plus to compete with each other (at least until the TV money gravy train starts reversing in 5-10 years), and the other 60-70 schools need to GTFO of D1-A and stop trying to "compete" with them.  I'm looking at you, EMU, WMU, CMU, etc.

Just seems odd to have a building already named after someone that played there like 2 years ago? I know he won a Heisman but geez wait 5 more minutes or something.

Better bring there A game when it comes to designing the new center. Our stuff looks like high schools compared to these big facilities. And don't tell me the kids don't want or need this to feel special. We're behind the times again. Arizona St, Oregon Bama Tenn etc: we better step it up

Here's the blurb from GoDucks.com - LINK

The idea behind it would apparently be this:

"We focused on creating a space that would allow us to objectively measure a student-athlete's development and readiness," said UO director of athletic medicine Dr. Greg Skaggs, who was a part of two fact-finding trips to research the MMSPC construction, including one that took him to NASA as well as Australia. "This data will give us the best opportunity to individualize training to maximize performance and prevent injury.

I don't like the new Sportz Performanze Zenter. Why mess with the old design, it works. Sure, the recruits migth like it, but I won't be buying any new Sportz Performanze Zenter until they bring back the old design.
