Ondre Pipkins Committed last Thursday, Reason Why Schutt didn't visit

Submitted by Dilla Dude on

I know most of us figured this out already, just thought it was interesting to see how the coaching staff seems so in-control of the current recruiting situation. It's very reassuring to me.

@tomVH If you haven't figured it out yet, Ondre Pipkins told me today that he committed to Michigan last Thursday, which is why Schutt didn't visit

I feel like you have just been watching Tom's twitter waiting for the chance to post something, then just rushed, didn't care about nice title or spelling of names.

Bob Lichtenfels tweet:

Thinking Tommy Schutt will have a little extra incentive against Michigan, should be interesting to see how that plays out #chiponshoulder

Huh, that seems totally reasonable.

I'd argue we've taken a 1 tech and a 3 tech in this class.  We have a big haul of DEs.  I'm assuming the coaches think we can grow ourselves a 3-Tech out of one of the bigger DEs.  Pee-Wee will be the NT.

I think where we're at is we definitely another 1 tech next year.  That gives us NT depth and we can possibly move either Peewee or the 2013 1 tech over to 3 tech, should the "grow your own 3 tech" fail.

And I think that the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens knows magnitudes more about selecting and coaching football players than anyone else reading or posting on this blog.  But then again, what would get posted if we didn't irrationally panic over taking only 1 nose tackle in this class.  I mean everyone knows that there will never again be any high school talent available in 2013 and beyond to select another 6ft something 300 something 17 year old.

Of course I do think it's hilarious that everyone is starting to comment that our players are too light to play manball.  It's like the coaches want really fast and mobile lineman or something.  Those stupid coaches.

Sorry if this has been explained before, but is there a reason that we didn't try to get both Pipkins and Schutt? Even if they both play the same DT position, I feel that DT is where we can afford to get as much depth as possible if both are willing to commit with each other.

Only 1 true NT can be on the field at once. Who here thinks we need to take 2 QB's next year just because we didn't take one this year? There will be some who say we should, but others who think Morris is such a stud there's no need to waste a scholarship on a lifetime backup. That is probably the way the coaches feel about Schutt. I believe Danny O'Brien is more of a DT 3-Tech so the coaches have told the two all along they want them both.

Don't go hating on the coaches for turning a good line player away because they already had the position filled with a guy higher on their board. You can't take every quality player who would have eventually committed or wanted to commit.

Pipkins that theyre only taking 1 DT. How could he say that and then jump when Schutt suddenly shows interest after Pipkins already committed. He would look like a real ass if he did that.  Even though im sure he would have loved to have Schutt in this class..he just couldn't do it and keep any credibility with his other recruits.

The question I have is who is the better prospect - Schutt or O'Brien? I'm guessing the staff believes O'Brien is the better of the two. Otherwise the decision to keep Schutt away makes absolutely no sense to me. I would have been just as happy with Schutt here (as opposed to Penn State) and O'brien at Tennesee.

Maybe the DC who coached a NC defense, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis knows WTF he is doing and the rest of us don't really no shit?

I'll take Mattison over random internet dude 24/7.
