None of Notre Dame Suspended Back at Practice

Submitted by alum96 on

Thought there was a thread created Monday implying we would hear something on the ND front on Tuesday... well today is Wednesday and per ESPN ACC/ND reporter none of the suspended 5 have appeared at practice. [Insert Allen Iverson quip here]

Kelly is on record saying that the players stauts can change in an instant once he hears from the administration but at this point even if they were all reinstated tomorrow they'd have 2 days of practice to immerse themselves into all things Notre Dame football.   I also do think ND takes this kind of thing seriously and reinstating players Thursday or Friday - even if that is going to happen down the road - would be a horrible look from an optics standpoint.

So from this perch these players are not coming back before Saturday.

The relative silence at this juncture probably means that everyone who has been suspended more than likely will not be playing Saturday, I would tend to agree with that. There were a lot of articles about how there was supposed to be some sort of update / status meeting basically any moment now but the lack of updates is interesting, even if they are being silent on what has happened if anything.

Considering the need to know what the guy next to you is doing, even in tight, man to man coverage schemes, I really don't see how any of these players, having missed training camp, could jump right in and be effective.

Guess we will know soon enough.

What do you even do with guys who haven't practiced for over a month? I know Davaris Daniels and KVR are 2 impact players for ND so they would definitely play if cleared. It will be interesting nonetheless.

I also don't know why a decision is taking so long if they wrapped up the investigation multiple days ago.

Considering Friday is just a walk-through most likely, you're probably right. That's not much time to shake the rust off or practice against what we're running.

Especially since they've played no games this year at all.

Not only have they not had time to get familiar with what Michigan will do, they have not have time to get familiar with what Notre Dame will do.  And ND has a new DC on defense and a new QB on offense to boot.

I seriously doubt they'd play on Saturday.  Per Fig Things on various sites, they have only been able to take part at the training table.  No team work outs, no film sessions, no meetings, no practice of any type shape or manner.

I never quite understand this type of comment... Who exactly is coming up to you after a loss and saying that it didn't count because of XYZ? I mean, it might come up in discussion I guess, but do people really make an ass out of themselves yelling about how they wouldn't have lost if so-and-so hadn't been suspended?

Ever since the academic thing hit the news, I've been expecting all of them to be conveniently cleared to play just in time for the Michigan game.

Although I'm surprised they haven't made any announcement yet.

Just turned on last year's ND game on BTN and the first play I saw was Russel with a nice pass break up against Gallon in the endzone.  I'm taking this to mean the football gods are on our side.

I expect them all to play Saturday. This came out on August 15. It's now September 3. The investigation is complete. They're either guilty or innocent. The longer into the week this lingers, the more suspect this situation gets.
