NFL Playoffs, It's Snowing, Will be 30 Below Up North, What's Your BBQ/Cup?

Submitted by xtramelanin on January 19th, 2019 at 5:59 PM

Mates,

So it looks like those of you who live down south are finally getting some snow.  Its about time and good for you.  Up north we are a little chilly, and they're saying tonight/tomorrow will be well below zero, ambient, with wind chills taking it down to -30.  Must have been blowing through the Troll Center onto our basketball team's shooting touch earlier today.   About to chop wood for the wood stove and eventually have an adult beverage and fire up the BBQ.

As for football the two games tomorrow are of course the NFC and AFC games.   NFC goes first @ 3:00 with the Rams playing the Saints, with N.O. as a 3 point favorite.  The over/under is 57 points.   In the AFC you will have the NE Brady's playing the Chiefs in KC, and the Chiefs are also favored by 3 points with the over/under set at 56.5 points.

So, that leads to two questions:

1.  How're you doing with the snow storm and what's on your grill, in your cup, etc?

2.  Who you got for the AFC and NFC Championship games?

Enjoy the winter weather (be safe) and hope you are having a great weekend.

As far as game picks for tomorrow, I will take the road teams. After watching NE last week, the Chiefs are going to need some defensive stops and I am skeptical about their defense showing up twice in a row. And I like the Rams chances since the Saints have not really been able to get back to their early to mid-season offensive form.

Even with that said, I will not be disappointed with any of these teams representing their respective conferences!

Living in Atlanta so no snow here. Wife and I are planning on walking to the gym tomorrow so it’s not too bad this weekend. But tonight the glass is full of boxed wine. Grilling out in a little bit.

I got the Saints and the Chiefs, although I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if the Pats won. Both teams are playing at a high level, but in my mind, tie goes to the home team. Either way I have a hard time seeing the Rams upset the Saints. If the game was in LA I could see it, but the Saints play on another level in the Superdome. Goff will have to re-capture his magic from the first half of the season, and the Rams D will have to play it’s best game of the year. The Saints just have  to maintain the  status quo.

But if it’s the Pats and the Saints, it’ll be every Falcon fan’s worst nightmare. Either your biggest rival wins it all on your home turf, or the franchise who handed you one of, if not the biggest humiliation in Super Bowl history. Fortunately I’m not a Falcons fan.

Sure, the Rams could beat them. But I just don’t think it’s going to happen. The Rams have tomplay arguably their best game of the season. Home field advantage is a very real thing in the Superdome.

All the Saints have to do is keep doing what what they’ve been doing.

Stay warm my northern mgobrothers. Somewhat windy but in the 50's in Central Texas, so not near as bad. Go Saints and Pats. Should be two of the better games of this past season. Lets hope.

It got up to about 20 degrees here in south-central Kansas today and the "breeze" has relented to about 25mph. It was the 1 1/2 inches of snow that did the locals in though-they start driving into the ditch the minute they hear snow forecast :) The sheep and cattle are enjoying their refuge in the barn-on their beds of straw.

Just made myself a banana split...sitting about 10 feet away from our wood stove that is blazing away. Life is good.

I prefer NE and NO.

I’m playing badminton today in 75 degree weather. I’d really rather be sitting in front of a nice fire, snuggling with my wife, and enjoying a hot chocolate. Instead, I’m sweating like a southern Californian in winter.

didn't you guys just have about 5 days of rain and mud slides, for real?

and i remember when i first got to socal and the temps some days would plunge into the 60's and i'd see people walking with down coats on.  heck, that's beach weather here.

You're not joking. In the hospital lobby I worked in, the night shift would come in and everyone would have hats and scarves and would rub their arms and complain about how cold it was in January and February.

And it was never, ever under 50.

We did have 5 consecutive days of rain and we needed it. But it was that bad type of rain that’s combined with strong winds that blow your umbrella all over the place. Lots of standing water leading to wet socks. There’s nothing worse in the world than wet socks.

its that kind of grittiness, the ability to rise above wet socks, that makes californians what they are....

kidding aside, i remember the traffic when it rained. it went from  bad to, better call suicide prevention.

It's cold here (high 20's) and very windy, but, thankfully, no snow (which was predicted). We're having the family over for dinner, especially my niece and 6-month old adorable great niece, visiting from Chicago. My great niece is a Michigan legacy on her mom's side and MSU legacy on her father's side. Yes, they have a mixed marriage, but he's a great kid anyway and he had the good sense to marry my niece.

As for tomorrow, I don't care who wins so long as the Rams lose and do so in the worst way possible. If the mental energy coming from St. Louis has the desired effect, the Rams should lose by 6-10 touchdowns.

i moved here from Farmington when i was 13 so im guessing the kid me liked the snow a lot more in Michigan.  it would be opposite now probably with that amount. Currently 34 with 2 kids

Also. Go pats go saints

As long as my well doesn't freeze, I am good. Just finishing some tasty Arbutus Lake Bluegill, decided to go full Tequila. Rooting for Duke? How did that happen ever? Ask for tomorrow hoping for Tommy to win again and I want Drew. So New England and the Saints in the Super Bowl how awesome would that be. I cannot lose.

It's 10° here in Baldwin MI, wind chill -5.  Been ice fishing since Friday morning, our bunch have pulled in a few pike in the 19-22" range, one tiny perch, a 16" bass, a few small 'gills (all of the above released back to the lake) and...about 45-50 really nice crappies.

I've stopped fishing for the day, but the diehards here are still out in their shanties jigging for panfish.  An abbreviated day of fishing planned for  tomorrow in between morning church and afternoon NFL playoff games , then the drive back home early Monday morning.

Just finished a bloody Mary and thinking about another after sipping on All Day IPA and Fireball while on the ice.

Picking the experienced QBs tomorrow, Brady and Brees, to lead the Pats and  Saintsinto the Superbowl.

We're not even trying for perch in this little lake as most of the population here crashed a few decades ago due to a series of introductions of non-native species (pike, walleye, and crappies)  What was a bass/perch/bluegill lake in my childhood is now a crappies/pike/bass lake.  Nobody has caught a walleye here in 15-20 years and the perch and bluegills are small and scarce, while crappies, pike and bass have taken over.

Just finished the first round of snow removal, had about 6 inches but some of the drifts were closer to a foot. Now the wind is really picking up so I am sure tomorrow morning it will look like I did nothing today .

Starting with a troegs nugget nectar and then will probably move on to either a few hopslams or maybe finish the shorts variety pack I got a few weeks back .

A winter storm is approaching and we will accumulate 6-8 inches of snow tonight. My wife and I are off work due to the birth of our first child so we are enjoying the weather. As for the grill, I grilled up some nice t bones and my drink of choice is Lagavulin neat.

Just pulled sockeye salmon and bacon wrapped chicken off of the Traeger!  Its on the plate with fried zucchini, shrooms and some rice!  No new snow here, think we are gonna get hit with whats left of that storm from Michigan sometime early next week.  Bout to crack open a Col Taylor Small Batch bourbon and watch the UFC fights here in Montana.  I have KC and LAR tomorrow.

I broke into a jar of homemade jalapeno & onion stuffed olives and it's not going to last long. Thinking I should have something to sip with them; suggestions?

Damn snow blower didn't start, had to use the shovel here in Temperance, but whatever, I can handle it.

Crown Royal was in the cup after I got done.

Would love to see a Brees/Brady Super Bowl.

That cold front is reaching us down here in Florida as well. Sunday is a high of 63 and rainy.  But we will suffer thru it. Haha. Not grilling but I did talked my wife into making me chicken pot pie.

I got the Pat's and Rams. But I am not real confident on either.

Please be safe and warm everyone.

Two excellent old fashioins with a nice dinner with the Mrs.   Feeling sleepy.  One last walk with dog in the snow before we all fall asleep in front of a nice fireplace.  Empty nesting ain’t all bad!

I am doing very well with the snow storm...because I live in the Phoenix area.  We ate at church and I am drinking a coke.

I'll take the Chiefs and Saints, but will not be surprised by whoever wins.

if you get to the UP you should be okay for snowmobiling.  you'd be okay in the rural areas where we live, but only okay, not great.  they say there's a decent storm headed our way mid-week, so there's hope for that.

I have felt your pain in the past. I snowmobiled for 10 years and then had 3 kids so I swapped the wifey and I’s sleds with a travel trailer.  It was bittersweet but It was also the right thing to do during this chapter of life.  Now it just looks really cold to me when I see people snowmobiling.  Maybe one day I will pick it back up again if the kids are interested.  I thought it was a great way to deal with the winter blues....if we ever got snow that is.

Chicago got a decent snow but nothing disruptive. I stocked up on whiskey and started 10 lbs of pulled pork in a slow cooker last night to prepare. Currently going through the provisions with a small crew.

I've got KC and NO tomorrow. A drunk Philly friend bet me NO would win the Super Bowl after they murdered the Eagles in week 11 so I would prefer to be wrong on that one.

Came from Little Rock to Dallas for the weekend to play ball. It was spitting snow  with 26 mph winds at 8:00am during our first game.  Just got done playing our third game in 38 degrees. It’ll be 31 degrees when we play our next at 1am.  This was a regrettable decision.
