It's what you have probably come to expect from the winless Indianapolis Colts this season: Angry at barbs thrown at him by broadcaster and former Buffalo quarterback Jim Kelly, quarterback Jim Harbaugh threw a punch--and instead of popping him in the nose, he missed.
Instead, Kelly's head intercepted the blow.
And as a result, Harbaugh fractured his throwing hand, and will be sidelined without pay.
"I regret throwing the punch, but I felt I had to do something since my toughness was being questioned," said Harbaugh, who reportedly smacked Kelly in the head. "I regret that I have a crack in one of my bones in my hand."

How was Aldon Smith not suspended this year? Of all the thing the NFL suspends players for you would think a DUI and illegal possession of an assault weapon would do it.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:48 PM ^
I think part of it has to do with his decision to leave the team and seek treatment on his own...at the same time he was being paid as well...so I'm surprised there was no fine at minimum (unless I missed something)
January 19th, 2014 at 6:52 PM ^
I understand that maybe for the DUI that might have played apart. But considering the Aaron Hernandez disaster an NFL player charged with illegal possesion of an assault rifle should be high up on the list of suspendable offenses. I expect he'll be suspended when he goes to trial, but it does not look good at all for the NFL having him on the field.
If the 49ers win this game I expect the media will catch on to the story.

And yet he is playing after another arrest.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:59 PM ^
I have no doubt that they want Aldon Smith long-term. He's a very talented player and they have a lot invested in him.
I can't help but wonder if their motives weren't a little self-serving, though. Doesn't rehab prevent what was a certain suspension?
Good luck to him. Reading some of the charges and the story about that party is pretty frightening stuff. I hope he stays on the straight & narrow.

For the amusement of the board perhaps, that exchange of "drives", if you can call them this, resulted in a mere 3 net yards of offense combined. I found that somewhat interesting, and yes, credit the Seattle defense for keeping that to an FG.

As a Browns fan I'm pulling for Phil Dawson to do well and make the Super Bowl. He is such a class act and I'm glad (for him) he ended up with the 49ers after his 15 year stint in Hell....I mean Cleveland.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:51 PM ^
I still hold onto this fantasy that if Harbaugh wins a Super Bowl, maybe he'll be satisfied with his time in the NFL and come back to coach Michigan. Go 49ers.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:53 PM ^
I highly doubt that. He'll have been to his second super bowl. I guarantee he will want to see if he can get to 5 or so and be considered one of the best coaches ever.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
I said "fantasy."
January 19th, 2014 at 6:52 PM ^
Defense dominate, offense meh.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:53 PM ^
which is interesting given all the hype the offense had at the beginning of the year.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:55 PM ^
They do have the best tight end in the game(arguably), Boldin, Crabtree, and the teams all-time rushing leader. So I wouldn't say the offense is MEH.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:56 PM ^
January 19th, 2014 at 6:59 PM ^
I realize that they have several good players but the Niners offense isn't overwhelming. Perhaps "meh" is a little harsh, but it isn't as explosive as it ought to be with that talent.

that jimmy graham is the best te (with gronk injured), and it's not really close.
January 19th, 2014 at 8:21 PM ^
Vernon Davis is faster, stronger, a better blocker, and is more versatile. So what Jimmy Graham has more receiving yards because he's targeted more? Last I checked, being a tight end involves more than catching passes. If Vernon played for the Saints, he'd probably have receiving numbers close to Graham's.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:55 PM ^
As well as Clark has played in replace of Clady I have to believe the pass rushers of both teams will test the Broncos OL severely.
January 19th, 2014 at 6:57 PM ^
Kaepernick won't last if they keep up with this type of play calling against this D.

I want none of the remaining teams to win the Super Bowl. Don't wanna see Peyton or Sherman win and I also have an irrational hatred of all sports teams from NYC and SF.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
I do hate Papa Johns but for reasons I shouldn't post about on this blog.
Why not Peyton? Irrational hatred.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:07 PM ^
I dislike the 49ers, but why all SF teams. I know lots people hate NY, LA, and Boston teams.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
Because I generally dislike the Bay Area and Bay Area teams have been beating my teams of late (Detroit sports fan).

Cheap shot by Whitner again. Head shot and launching.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:08 PM ^
here comes one of those new NFL "you hit him too hard" penalties. They cant hit high....they can't hit low...where exactly are the defenders suppose to hit?
Maybe we just go to flag football. This is crazy.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:10 PM ^
You can't hit the head. And Whitner has a history of it so he shouldn't get any benefit of the doubt.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:08 PM ^
Which, given the teams playing, is what we're gonna get. So I'll be happy.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:09 PM ^
i enjoy watching massive people collide in rocket explosions.
i would also enjoy watching gladiotors fight if that was still a thing, so take it for what it's worth.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:10 PM ^
When do we move to reviewing penalties? You have to figure that players are going to fight for that one pretty soon.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:11 PM ^
Ball don't lie in football either. Nice!
January 19th, 2014 at 7:12 PM ^
Despite what Aikman said he clearly hit him in the head. That was the right call and the teams were specifically warned before the game.

January 19th, 2014 at 7:11 PM ^
Seattle o-line having some issues so far. If the 49ers keep sending this much pressure eventually they will get burnt deep.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:17 PM ^
Now I am rooting for: sacks, penalties, fumbles, botched snaps, as many mental errors as possible. Ugly sloppy football.
Also acceptable: A players' strike that kills the season.
January 19th, 2014 at 7:12 PM ^
LB's of the 80's.(Banks, Pepper Johnson, and LT)

that the guy 100% behind his field of vision almost tapped him (despite zero contact)?

49ers getting all the breaks so far. 2 fumbles and they recover both of them. Can't expect that to continue.
