New opinions on schedule

Hackenberg lol.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:07 PM ^
Still baffling to me that everyone was considering them so highly and were projecting upwards of 10 wins. They were pretty awful last year and don't appear to be much better. I'm now wondering whether or not Franklin is a good coach.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:38 PM ^
And Hackenberg was talked about as a potential top ten pick.
September 5th, 2015 at 8:16 PM ^
He looked like he could be one as a freshman. Now he just looks like a guy who will be flinching a lot (like Gardner.)
September 6th, 2015 at 7:17 PM ^
Hackenberg is a top ten talent, but PSU is going to destroy him. He should have transferred somewhere else as soon as O'Brien left.
September 6th, 2015 at 12:37 PM ^
I don't think it was as much about them being good as it was about their pathetically easy schedule. Well, they just gave up 10 sacks and got blown out by Temple. So much for that easy schedule.
September 5th, 2015 at 9:34 PM ^
MSU did not. WMU could easily beat UM, they are the second best team in the state of Michigan. That was proven on the field. The bad thing for UM is that it is obvious that games that maybe were considered likely wins for UM are now almost certain losses. BYU, will dominate UM, and NW will probably do the same. Even UNLV played in a way to say it's not a certain win. Oregon State won and should be UM's second loss of the season. Things could very well end up where UM only wins 3-4 games this year. That could happen rather easily, probably will
September 6th, 2015 at 6:42 PM ^
My son just reminded me they gave up as many sacks as they had points. Life as a Michigan fan living in Pennsyltucky is getting exponentially better.
September 5th, 2015 at 6:50 PM ^
I knew BYU was good but there qb is pretty good. Looks like he is having some health concerns.
September 6th, 2015 at 7:24 PM ^
Out for the season with a broken foot. Didn't they lose their star RB during the off-season?
September 5th, 2015 at 6:52 PM ^
teams change a lot after the first few games. For years we've been thinking Penn State or other teams should be easy wins, but they have proved to be far from it.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:00 PM ^
You win.
September 6th, 2015 at 1:20 AM ^
That's only because Michigan has sucked for the last 3 years...
September 6th, 2015 at 12:46 PM ^
*6 of the last 7 years*
...kill me.
September 5th, 2015 at 6:56 PM ^
pls stop with MSU disappointed crap. It was 27-7 to start with Westerns only pts on a KO return.
BYU is what we thought - great offense, bad defense but Hill might be hurt.
PSU disappointed for sure. OL is awful again.
Minn surprised to upside as did Northwestern.
UM is going to be evenly matched with a lot of teams this year and I expected a lot of 1 possession games before today and a lot after today. Teams will get better. So will UM.
September 5th, 2015 at 6:59 PM ^
isn't that bad by the way.
September 5th, 2015 at 9:30 PM ^
Tommy Armstrong threw for over 300 yards.. That's bad
September 5th, 2015 at 7:29 PM ^
When we almost to Akron everybody said that we sucked. Western was a bad pass away from coming within 6 of MSU. I agree that it's too early to tell if MSU's secondary is really that bad or not and next week will tell a lot more but let's at least be consistent and not tear down our team while building MSU up after a bad game.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:36 PM ^
That's the point. Western is a good MAC team but still lost 4 games last year. It's disrespectful to Western to just say MSU wasn't trying. If they were really # 5, they would have won like 48 to 10 or something.
September 6th, 2015 at 7:20 PM ^
MSU's secondary is actually that terrible. Western has a veteran QB who knew what he had to do to beat them. If Adams can pass well for Oregon, Oregon will roll over them.
September 5th, 2015 at 8:05 PM ^
Please stop with the MSU cheerleading. It is tired. They did not look like a top 5 team against WMU. Cook completed under 50% of his passes against a MAC defense. There is no way any rational person can say that was a good performance.
September 6th, 2015 at 2:50 PM ^
Not to mentio how horrendous their kickoff team is/was.
September 6th, 2015 at 6:56 PM ^
MSU looks like butt every year during their nonconference schedule. By October they'll be outstanding again. It is the way of their people.
September 5th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
I went to the msu game, and it was 27-7 at one point, but it never felt like western was getting blown out. Theyd returned the opening kick, then missed the fg. Msu dominated both lines, but western held up well for a mac team and the msu skill players didnt blow away western like they should have. Well see if this is bc msu skill players arent that good, or if western really is a stacked mac team.
I think msu is exactly who we thought they were entering the season. Oregon, osu, and baylor had shown that the msu scheme wasnt invincible and western attacked that scheme. Add in the young secondary this year, and that defense is a touch below the standard that it has been over the last 4 or 5 years.
After this weekend, if rudock can cut down on the turnovers and the line and recievers can continue to progress, id say that we can make it a game this year.
September 5th, 2015 at 10:35 PM ^
Is a dangerous team. They could have won that game with a few plays/breaks.
MSU looked solid but their D backs are suspect right now.
September 5th, 2015 at 11:55 PM ^
Yes. This is dumb. It's the first game of the season. Two years ago I sprained my shoulder from patting myself on my back because MSU's offense couldn't pick a QB and looked like hot garbage with the guy they eventually settled on (Connor Cook, as it happens) in a game at home against Western while we were eviscerating Notre Dame with mad genius Al Borges and Devin "Vince Young the sequel" Gardner. I was rubbing my hands together with glee picturing how the game in East Lansing would look that year.
How did it turn out? Oh, yeah.
MSU will be fine, unfortunately. Try not to forget very recent history when considering whether or not to pronounce someone dead.
September 6th, 2015 at 2:52 PM ^
This is why I haven't passed judgement on an MSU football team until October the past several years. They always seem to improve throughout the year. We have not, that has to change now.
September 5th, 2015 at 6:55 PM ^
...Franklin should stop placing so much importance of the attractiveness of potential assistants' wives when hiring. This entire offense is terrible. You can't just blame the o-line. It is safe to assume that PSU has superior athletes to Temple at every position. For them to get completely smoked like this at every position is crazy.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:23 PM ^
Understood why Franklin gets so much love. I think he'll be fired in a year or two, reminds me of Hoke.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:25 PM ^
Animated coach-speak and bravado can only take a program so far.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:55 PM ^
Does he get a lot of love? The PSU fans I met at the game last year weren't too enthused with him - and that was in his first year.
September 6th, 2015 at 6:53 PM ^
They still haven't grasped the damage done by an open door and sanctions. I'm not making excuses for Franklin but they thought they would pick up right where BOb left off. BOB left when the kids who were soph/rs Jr when he came were seniors. Those roster spots were filled with walkons and MAC players.
There's still local kids on the PSU roster who have no business being there other than they walked on a thin team. I do believe Franklin's OL coach is going to be his Gerg. After a tirefire like that you have to let him go now just on general principal. How much worse can they be with a new guy? They gave up a sack on a 2 MAN RUSH!
September 6th, 2015 at 11:28 AM ^
Maybe because he had back-to-back nine win seasons at the dumpster fire that is Vanderbilt? Perhaps that's why?
September 5th, 2015 at 7:56 PM ^
Franklin recruited zero members of this offensive line.
September 5th, 2015 at 6:57 PM ^
Hill is out of Neb game with sprained foot by the way. His loss would be huge if its lingering.
September 5th, 2015 at 6:58 PM ^
I still say 8 wins with steady improvement each week.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:09 PM ^
Shaw is on the hot seat and after this game he may be out of there after the season (if not sooner)
September 5th, 2015 at 7:40 PM ^
The most conservative coach in the country, bar none.
September 5th, 2015 at 8:17 PM ^
Ferentz?
September 6th, 2015 at 12:14 AM ^
More conservative than Ferentz. Kirk was doing some weird stuff today. Fake FG runs with his kicker on like 4th and 8. It didn't work (obviously) but he was trying!
Also I don't think he ever punted from the opponent's 32 like Shaw has.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:12 PM ^
Split with the rivals...Split with BYU/Minnesota, and 1 hiccup somewhere. Or lose to both rivals. 8-4, but 9-3 is very possible in my eyes.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:27 PM ^
We're going to lose to MSU and OSU and win every other game? Not gonna happen, not with this running game and this QB. We will be very lucky to hit 8-4 after what they showed Thursday night.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:33 PM ^
A year ago , things turned out ok for them. Just sayin, don't put too much stock into week 1. I think 8 or 9 wins is still within reach for the team that we saw Thursday night that lost on the road by 7, in a game that could have been a much different outcome if you take away 4 plays
September 5th, 2015 at 7:36 PM ^
There isn't a chance we split with our rivals. Hoke ensured that. We just don't have the talent or athletes. We lose to both OSU and MSU as well as both BYU and Minnesota. We're just not good unfortunately.
September 5th, 2015 at 7:44 PM ^
Would love to place a bet on this

Hmmm, you registered today and all of your posts are extremely negative.
Most concern trolls try a little harder than this.
September 5th, 2015 at 9:35 PM ^
If you read my posts, you'd see that I was banned over a year ago because I was outspoken against Hoke and didn't think he deserved to be our coach. I was subsequently negged to oblivion and sent to Bolivia because I had dared to say Hoke wasn't going lead us to the promise land. I came back today to say that yes, Harbaugh will make us competitive, but that dosen't mean that we will field a decent team next week, next year, or even 3 years from now. This program needs a massive massive overhaul and it's a 5-6 yeaer rebuild at least. It's not optimal and now what we want, but it's what we require
September 5th, 2015 at 9:53 PM ^
Nah, we'll be fine, more than fine, in two years (or fewer).
