New opinions on schedule

Submitted by Bo's Hat 41 on
Have any of your opinions changed on our schedule? A lot of the presumed tough teams on our schedule who've played so far (PSU, MSU) have disappointed. HOWEVA, Minnesota and Northwestern look better than expected. Minnesota played TCU well and Northwestern beat a well coached Stanford team.

MSU did not. WMU could easily beat UM, they are the second best team in the state of Michigan. That was proven on the field. The bad thing for UM is that it is obvious that games that maybe were considered likely wins for UM are now almost certain losses. BYU, will dominate UM, and NW will probably do the same. Even UNLV played in a way to say it's not a certain win. Oregon State won and should be UM's second loss of the season. Things could very well end up where UM only wins 3-4 games this year. That could happen rather easily, probably will

teams change a lot after the first few games. For years we've been thinking Penn State or other teams should be easy wins, but they have proved to be far from it.

pls stop with MSU disappointed crap.  It was 27-7 to start with Westerns only pts on a KO return.

BYU is what we thought - great offense, bad defense but Hill might be hurt.

PSU disappointed for sure.  OL is awful again.

Minn surprised to upside as did Northwestern.

UM is going to be evenly matched with a lot of teams this year and I expected a lot of 1 possession games before today and a lot after today.  Teams will get better.   So will UM.

When we almost to Akron everybody said that we sucked. Western was a bad pass away from coming within 6 of MSU. I agree that it's too early to tell if MSU's secondary is really that bad or not and next week will tell a lot more but let's at least be consistent and not tear down our team while building MSU up after a bad game.

Please stop with the MSU cheerleading.  It is tired.  They did not look like a top 5 team against WMU.  Cook completed under 50% of his passes against a MAC defense.  There is no way any rational person can say that was a good performance.

I went to the msu game, and it was 27-7 at one point, but it never felt like western was getting blown out. Theyd returned the opening kick, then missed the fg. Msu dominated both lines, but western held up well for a mac team and the msu skill players didnt blow away western like they should have. Well see if this is bc msu skill players arent that good, or if western really is a stacked mac team.
I think msu is exactly who we thought they were entering the season. Oregon, osu, and baylor had shown that the msu scheme wasnt invincible and western attacked that scheme. Add in the young secondary this year, and that defense is a touch below the standard that it has been over the last 4 or 5 years.
After this weekend, if rudock can cut down on the turnovers and the line and recievers can continue to progress, id say that we can make it a game this year.

Yes. This is dumb. It's the first game of the season. Two years ago I sprained my shoulder from patting myself on my back because MSU's offense couldn't pick a QB and looked like hot garbage with the guy they eventually settled on (Connor Cook, as it happens) in a game at home against Western while we were eviscerating Notre Dame with mad genius Al Borges and Devin "Vince Young the sequel" Gardner. I was rubbing my hands together with glee picturing how the game in East Lansing would look that year.

How did it turn out? Oh, yeah.

MSU will be fine, unfortunately. Try not to forget very recent history when considering whether or not to pronounce someone dead.

...Franklin should stop placing so much importance of the attractiveness of potential assistants' wives when hiring. This entire offense is terrible. You can't just blame the o-line. It is safe to assume that PSU has superior athletes to Temple at every position. For them to get completely smoked like this at every position is crazy.

They still haven't grasped the damage done by an open door and sanctions.  I'm not making excuses for Franklin but they thought they would pick up right where BOb left off.  BOB left when the kids who were soph/rs Jr when he came were seniors.  Those roster spots were filled with walkons and MAC players.

There's still local kids on the PSU roster who have no business being there other than they walked on a thin team.  I do believe Franklin's OL coach is going to be his Gerg.  After a tirefire like that you have to let him go now just on general principal.  How much worse can they be with a new guy?  They gave up a sack on a 2 MAN RUSH!

A year ago , things turned out ok for them. Just sayin, don't put too much stock into week 1. I think 8 or 9 wins is still within reach for the team that we saw Thursday night that lost on the road by 7, in a game that could have been a much different outcome if you take away 4 plays

There isn't a chance we split with our rivals. Hoke ensured that. We just don't have the talent or athletes. We lose to both OSU and MSU as well as both BYU and Minnesota. We're just not good unfortunately.

If you read my posts, you'd see that I was banned over a year ago because I was outspoken against Hoke and didn't think he deserved to be our coach. I was subsequently negged to oblivion and sent to Bolivia because I had dared to say Hoke wasn't going lead us to the promise land. I came back today to say that yes, Harbaugh will make us competitive, but that dosen't mean that we will field a decent team next week, next year, or even 3 years from now. This program needs a massive massive overhaul and it's a 5-6 yeaer rebuild at least. It's not optimal and now what we want, but it's  what we require
