New Away Jersey?
Did anyone else notice the new away jerseys a few of the defensive players were wearing in the first Spring video? From what I could tell, Kovacs, Morgan, Avery, and Countess were all wearing a new jersey. It was not the typical blue on white as the previous practice jerseys (three stripes) and it was not the '08-'10 or '11 jerseys either.
They were a simplified version with only blue numbers with a maize stroke. There was no maize or blue piping around the neck or cuffs. I hope that is the direction they are planning on going with if they continue with the helmet numbers.
They could very well be a prototype jersey like they have tried in the past. But as we saw last year, the team was trying white pants as a prototype and we saw them at the MSU game. Anyway, thought I'd share.

This.
Same thing happened last year.

I feel like the same shit happens every year.
Every year at 10 PM Super Bowl sunday after I drink a mug of chili-cheese dip like it was water.
Oh... wait. You mea-... Never mind.

Not that I totally disagree with you, but I would find it difficult to think that they would spend $200+ on stiched lettering for practice jerseys. I bought one of the preactice jerseys at the athletic sale last year and it is screen printed. But you may be right. I guess we'll see.

I hope Addidas has developed a new jersey that doesn't have the velcro effect the defensive players hated.
My only request in a new jersey is bolder numbers...these are supposed to be manball jerseys. Just not Mickey Mouse big like Ohio.

My only request for a new away jersey - or in fact any jersey at all that the team wears - is that nobody is tempted to describe them as "sick." Sick = stupid.

I as excited about these, theyre simple, understated, and most importantly, not a WVU maize pipiing disaster like the ones theyve been wearing the past 3 seasons. Unfortunately they all tore during the NW game and the team reverted to 2010's away set.

Noticed, and didn't like them because they looked virtually identical to ND.
March 19th, 2012 at 11:04 PM ^
i was thinking the same thing.... looks way to much like ND
March 19th, 2012 at 11:16 PM ^
Look at the quality of the picture...the OP just tried to show what he was talking about. But if you owned one, I highly doubt someone would confuse the two.
Besides...it's kind of missing the interlocking ND on the sleeve, right?

Agreed. This is Michigan Fergodsakes.

I mean our home jersey could look like Cal if not for a few marks. It's the whole uniform, helmet and pants included that makes us "Michigan."
I like them, I've been asking to keep it simple like the home uniforms all along. Not because I'm an oldhead who wants basic stuff...I just like when every jersey follows the consistant pattern. I don't care if the numbers are outlined in maize, but take off everything else.
Or like our basketball uni's...I love that no matter if we're blue, white or maize - they all follow the same design.
Hopefully football is getting on board and we just get these "plain" jerseys since we're never going to touch the home uniforms. I'd rather have an alternate maize jersey than have the aways have a completely different design than the homes.

I received a confirmed report that they were simply a new style that Adidas was testing and will continue to test throughout spring ball. Like some of the styles we saw last year in spring/fall camp, they may work their way into games if they receive enough support from players and staff.

I like the simplicity and I hope these are chosen for this fall.
March 19th, 2012 at 11:32 PM ^
but my idea for our away uniforms is all maize pants and jerseys with a big blue block M on the front. I've never cared much for our away uniforms.

Michigan's road jersey has been a mess since Nike moved away from the twin-striped block M sleeve that was first worn in '97. Single maize pinstripes? Swooping maize side panels? Super-stretchy fabrics? What a mess.
The stretchy jerseys were the worst. They ruined UCLA's uniform, too. I hope they fix it in the fall.

I think Adidas has finally figured it out. They took the proper designs that they put on crap jersey lines, and put them on the normal looking jerseys that they made the crap UTL/side-show jerseys from.
March 20th, 2012 at 12:34 AM ^
...but as long as those jerseys all filled with Victors at game's end, I'm fine.
I wouldn't mind the Sugar Bowl jersey being picked up as our new Road jersey.
OMG ARE THE PLAYERS GOING TO PLAY WITHOUT PADS ALSO!!!! /s
We don't need no stinkin' pads!
So that's why Oregon, not Alabama won the national championship this year...
...noted.
Whatever it takes to get Diggs man /amiright?
I also noticed we're going back to the 80's half-shirts, a la Miami and Penn State. Sweet.

We signed in 2007 an 8 year contract, that started the 2008-2009 season. So this contract will end in 2015-2016, and I would expect them to get a renewal before then too. They offered us nearly twice as much as Nike did when negotiating, we're one of the favored schools (meaning that if any other school gets something from Adidas, we can demand that too), and they have 2 onsite reps to handle our account as opposed to 1 from Nike. So I would get used to Adidas
March 20th, 2012 at 10:27 AM ^
Not to mention Adidas contractually guaranteed that M would have the largest apparel sponsorship fee in college sports. Adidas has to "one-up" any contract signed with any school in the country, as I understand it. That's awesome, to say the least.
The OP obviously just wanted an excuse to post a pic of Kovacs' midriff.

Any news if the grey face masks and helmet numbers are here to stay?
March 20th, 2012 at 11:18 AM ^
...I find the location of the Adidas logo to be the most annoying aspect of current jerseys. From a distance for a jersey with a single number, it looks like some kind of accent mark. I'd rather they nudged it over to one side or the other, more like a shoulder patch.
March 20th, 2012 at 11:55 AM ^
I'm sure someone from the athletic department complained that during games our defensive linemen were going through jerseys like crap through a goose. So now Adidas is letting the team test out this years new models.
As for the helmets, I'm sure they are just using the same ones from the Sugar Bowl. If I remember correctly after spring ball they go out to the manufacturers for reconditioning. At that point we will see if they bring back the gray facemask and helmet numbers.

white white pants. And then hell rained down upon us in East Lansing.
I am of the belief that the players use various uni combos. HOWEVA...I hope, wish, and pray that they get rid of that ridiculous yellow piping on the away jerseys. (Now get off my lawn.)
